Strength:

32 INCH FLAT SCREEN SONY WEGA FOR $659. SONY QUALITY. RIVALS HDTV PICTURE ON CURRENT CABLE SERVICE. SAME AS HDTV ON DVD'S.

Weakness:

WEIGHT 165 LBS, TAKES TWO MEN TO MOVE. LEARNING CURVE ON PROGRAMMABLE FEATURES, SIMPLE, BUT HAVE NEVER HAD/USED THESE FEATURES BEFORE.

IN RESEARCH OF TELEVISIONS, I WAS SEEKING: FIRST QUALITY, SECOND SIZE, THIRD TYPE AND FOURTH PRICE. REMOVING THE TOP AND BOTTOM 10%OF ALL COMMENTS, ALMOST ALL REVIEWS LISTED SONY IN THE TOP OF THE FIELD IN EVERY INSTANCE, EXCEPT PRICE. IN THE CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE NEWSPAPER ADS FOR THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, REX ADVERTISED THE SET FOR $799 - $140 STORE COUPONS FOR A $659 IN THE BOX OUT THE DOOR PRICE. NO CONTEST, I WAS THERE WHEN THE DOORS OPEN.

Strength:

Picture, Sound, Movable picture in picture screen, tons of inputs, universal remote

Weakness:

16:9 enhancement, have to go into menu to operate it and most of my dvd's are already in wide-screen format already so it just makes them movie smaller. Just an unnecessary feature so far.

This TV is phat. Picture is great, glare is minimized my the flat screen. Picture is much better with my digital cable input. Sony stands for quality. They last forever just like a Toyota or Honda unless u get a lemon once an awhile just like Alanmairer did with his critical review. I worked for sears and once and awhile a bad one would come in or get delivered to the customer. What he should've done was just take it immediately back to Best Buy and did an exchange. Mine is perfect along with my neighbors and everyone else i know who owns a Wega. This Flat screen cost less than a grand, you can't beat that.

Strength:

Excellent video quality - rivals HDTV when using interlaced signals such as standard DVD and DirecTV. Sound was acceptable as well. Being able to turn off the velocity scan modulation is a major plus.

Weakness:

Pathetic quality control. The degauss process rattled the cheap plastic cabinet (cabinet issue - the set needs to degauss) The 16x9 mode requires navigating through menues to engage.

This television is the electronic version of the "$20 cigar that explodes" - it''s a slap in the face. I wanted a good standard 32" set to more than just hold me over until HDTV, as I wanted to keep this set for years to come. Problem is - try getting one that does not suffer from geometric distortion issues! I had a good Sony service tech out to fix a unacceptable horizontal bow in the picture, and there was nothing he could do. He treaked th geometry as best he could, but it was still poor. I expect more out of a $1000 television set. I also expect more from Sony. Ultimately I did decide to spring for an HDTV ready set - and it was definitely not a Sony! I had to do something as watching this set was frustrating.

A number of Sony Trinitrons over the years (all great sets). I also own 2 Toshiba sets now (including the set which replaced this one)
