Strength:

I have had NO problems with the unit whatsoever. The picture quality is outstanding and will fool you into thinking this is a digital model. This unit will give you maximum bang for your buck. You can probably get one locally at a bargain ($2-500). I have not had to do any tweeking of the collor balance and temperature.

Weakness:

This unit is a monster at 236 lbs. At 40” wide, 30” high, 25" deep, it requires a serious amount of space. Do not plan on mounting this on the wall!. It takes 2-3 strong men to install. Be prepared to visit the chiropractor afterward. Once installed, do not plan to move. This is not a widescreen model and also cannot give the best advantage of the new HD-DVD or Blu-ray players like the new high definition models can at 1080i.

I have to say the Sony Wega KV-36FV1 has been a great buy. We use it mainly with DVD and it has been outstanding. I also use a rooftop antenna for local channels to save money on cable. We have used it with satellite. The better your source the better the picture. The Sony Wega trinitron is legendary and the flat screen is characterized by outstanding contrast, uncompromising accuracy, and corner-to-corner detail. The first thing you'll notice is minimal glare from the flat picture tube, unless of course there is a light source opposite the unit, it will show up like looking in a mirror. I would have expected with less reflection from room lighting, but this problem is less than other screens and the unit works best in a darkened room. The darker the better, This flat-screen technology improves picture detail without distortion, unlike conventual curved screens. The FD Trinitron delivers outstanding image detail not only at the screen center, but also at the corners - so you can enjoy a bright, clear picture from any location in a room.

Strength:

Great picture with DVD and strong cable signal.

Weakness:

Persistent Power problems with loss of picture. Black lines in screen. Way too heavy.

I purchased a Sony KV36XBR400 floor model January 2001 and have had two major service issues since delivery, soon to be my third. The first occured in November of 2001. Intermittent loss of picture while retaining audio. Intermittent powering off and on. This same problem occurred last month, August 2003. Extended warranty has paid for the replacement of the same board twice: part# A-1346-948-A at $224.11/ea. My problems continue to persist, now with intermittent power going off and then on and finally losing all power to the TV. My home electricity is not to blame. A major disappointment with such an investment. This TV is way too heavy....moved it twice with 3 bodies struggling up stairs! I have the same thin black lines on the tube and was told this was a Sony "thing". I would have purchased Mitsubishi but they got out of the tube business.

Strength:

Picture quality

Weakness:

Too heavy to move. Short warranty period.

Love the picture, sound and looks. After almost 3 years it just died on me one day when I tried to turn it on. Hope it''s not something major otherwise I will not buy Sony again. Will have to pay to have someone come to the house to look at it because it will be impossible for me to move.

For all of you having those sweeping lines coming from the bottom of your TV's:
I had the same problem too,it's due to bad grounding in your house,It could be from your cable or from your current, call both companies until they fix it.

Strength:

Outstanding picture quality, on cable and video. Can want to hook it up to a DVD player.

Weakness:

None yet.

Even though I had read many negative reviews I decided to purchase the TV anyway. I glad I did! The picture is outstanding. I am not experiencing any of the problem many other reviewers mentioned. I have seen the way this heavy set is handled during its unboxing, in fact, the set initially delivered to my home had its picture tube detached from the facia. So be sure your set works before the delivery men leave. Those of you mail ordering this product can voice your concerns prior to ordered it so that the shipping department can take note. Since this set is so heavy, it may help if they place the picture tube forward.

I love this TV. It took 3 of us to lift into the armoir, so make sure you have a quality entertainment center for this hulk. The picture is fantastic. I haven't seen any scrolling or other problems. When I put in a DVD all I hear from my friends is, "great picture". I picked it up from Circuit City on sale for $1799, minus an additional $200 for buying the 4 day old floor model. I shopped online for it, but $180 shipping made it tough to beat local prices.

Strength:

Excellent picture, great design

Weakness:

3 thin horizontal lines

I've purchased it 4 months ago and since i have it, there is 3 thin horizontal lines across the screen, one 6" from the top, one 6 " from the bottom, and one in the middle, you can clearly see it when there is a bright ou clear white image. The manager where i purchased it and the Sony representative here in Montreal dont know why, and it seems like every 32 and 36 XBR400 have the same problem. Also, when someone get close to the screen, like 2 ou 3 feet, there is a lot of interference (many many lines). Its a good tv but i cant stand this problem, please someone help me. a57535@hotmail.com.
