Strength:

solid picture, good sound, looks awesome

Weakness:

remote

This is a great tv, i picked it up from best buy with an internet match price of $1295, so I cant complain. The picture is great and movies are awesome. The 16:9 squeeze was an extra that i had no idea i was getting but it is cool as well. It is a little heavy but who gives a FLIP ( the computer said i had to remove my original word), its a tv and two men can move it in easy. Sony has something good going here and i highly recommend this product to any movie watcher.

Strength:

Incredible picture quality. Very sharp and crisp. Most of my viewing is either sports via satellite or DVD's. Looked at other large screen TV's but this picture although smaller was easier to see even from long distances (30-50 feet away).

Weakness:

price, remote control, some grainy pictures if you are viewing VCR tapes or a local antenna (rabbit ears) type of feed. I have heard of grainy pictures with cable but can't comment personally.

Overall an excellent TV so far. Pretty pricey but Soundtrack did a price match from Best Buy. They were giving away free DVD which I did not need so they credited back this amount to my account. Total cost around $1300.

Strength:

High resolution, clarity, awesome detail...

Weakness:

None what so ever...

Being that this TV is flatscreen makes all the difference in the world compared to a non-Flatscreened television. This TV has one of the most vivid pictures i've ever seen on any tube television... If you're going to do it, do it right and get a flatscreen, a Wega of course.

Strength:

Flat Screen, number of inputs, menu system, 16.9 mode, front A/V input.

Weakness:

Doesn't hold black at black. Wavy images when scrolling horizontally.

The Strengths:
The Flat Screen! It's beautiful. The body is beautiful. I love the silver/gray color. It fits very well in an American Modern style cabinet entertainment center. The number of inputs is extremely important to people who have more than a VCR and cable. Although I wish there was an additional S-Video input.

The 16:9 mode! This is probably my favorite feature, since I watch alot of dvds. Maybe I'm missing something, but I have my dvd player (Sony) set to 4:3/16:9 widemode so that it will automatically detect anamorphic dvd's. and then I turn on the 16:9 enhancement feature on the set. Shouldn't it automatically turn on when the dvd is anamorphic, or at least have this option available so we don't have to go through the menu to reset it each time we switch inputs? Better yet, have it available on the remote like it has for color mode settings.

Menu system is very well laid out and feature rich. I really like having the Tilt control available. Seeing that this is a high end TV, they could afford to have additional geometric adjustment controls available like pincushion, trapezoid, vertical & horizontal positioning, etc.

Good color and contrast. Higher digital cable stations look great, while the lower ones and local broadcast look very grainy. Same with VHS tapes.

The Weaknesses:
It doesn't hold black at black. Excessive amount of light through black areas from surrounding brightness. i.e., when you are watching a movie in letterbox, the black bars at the top and bottom allow light to show through according to the brightness on screen (I really never noticed that on the Toshiba, probably because of the black screen). So needless to say that makes it very difficult to properly adjust the Pluge.
Either this is my eyes or the set, but when a bright white object or text is on screen against a black background, when it disappears and the screen is all black again, you can still see a "ghost" of the image.

There is a small amount of geometric distortion, basically non existent compared to other 32 inch televisions, like the Toshiba. That can probably be corrected somewhat. The other thing is some convergence problems in the corners.

My big complaint though is when the camera pans left or right, the images is scrolling horizontally, or a ticker tape is running across the bottom of the screen, the image, text etc. seems to wave like a flag. It is very distracting and a little disorienting. I am not sure if this is on other sets. I really don't recall seeing it on the sets on display.

I am in love with this tv. the only drawback is a little color patch (little yelllow in the corner) that is adjusting itself back to normal.

Question for everyone out there:
I have a Wega and a Playstation 2 and am determined to squeeze the best out of it, from a video and audio perspective. For some reason, when i put it on 16:9 enhanced mode, my gladiator dvd beccomes incredibly distorted. Does anyone know if this is a function of the Playstation 2 dvd player? also, what other tips do people have on maximizing the experience? please email me at paul.leung@ssmb.com with any help. Thanks!

Strength:

Good picture, flat screen, in & outputs.

Weakness:

Heavy

I like the flat screen! This is a very good TV. I don't like the projection sets, so I got this TV. It works great with my entire AV system. Go out & find one in the store, but don't forget to bargain them down or have them throw in a bunch of free stuff.

Strength:

-Awesome picture
-Good feature set for price

Weakness:

-Component video trouble
-"flag-like" distortion on left side

I bought this set 2 days ago and was in love with it at first. I went from a 27" Trinitron to this 36" Vega!!! I have noticed 2 flaws that I find very disturbing. First, as others have mentioned, there is a 1" vertical bar that scrolls from right to left when using the component in's. It is barely visible, just enough to annoy the piss out of me. Also, I have noticed when a scene pans slowly, there is a "flag-like" wave on the left side of the screen. Is this kind of behavior normal for large sets??? Sony is a bitch to contact.

Strength:

Esthetic look, Good Picture in general

Weakness:

Extremely heavy and expensive

The picture on analogic cable is good. On Dvds, it's excellent. Overall, I am glad I made this purchase and my tv is working fine. One suggestion, don't take a 5 year garanty. The tv will probably work fine for at least 10 years if your carefull with it.
