Strength:

Great picture quality watching DVD movies. Even watching regular channel TV using basic outdoor roof-top antenna gives satisfactory result. At the price I paid, it was outstanding value.

Weakness:

No component video inputs. I am just a little concerned about the recent reliability issue (from what I've read) regarding Sony TVs, although I haven't had any problem with mine owning this TV for almost a year.

I was in the market for a basic 36" TV with component video inputs. I almost bought the Toshiba 36A40/50 until I came across this Sony KV35S42 which was on sale for $699 at Sears around Thanksgiving 2001. At this price, Sears even gave us a free TV stand (non-Sony). And for using the Sears credit card, they gave us a 10 percent discount. So at $630 (plus tax, + delivery), I purchased this 35" Sony TV with a free stand! Great value. The quality of the Sony Trinitron picture is outstanding. I use S_video for connecting my Pioneer DVD player to the TV, resulting in sharp and crisp picture while watching DVD movies. The built-in 5 watt TV speakers produce surprisingly pleasant sound with impressive accuracy. Remote control is easy to use.

Strength:

Great Picture!

Weakness:

Not enough features. ie:No picture/picture, needs two S-video connections. A little pricey!

Bought this TV at Sears. I happened to get it at a steal considering they wanted $999.00. What I did as I always do at Sears, I went to a smaller Sears in my area and I asked if they had this TV in stock, which they didn't. They had the floor display so I offered to buy this. they knocked a 100 off the price plus it was on sale for 899 so i got it for 799! Love the TV and I'm glad a chose the 35" over the 32". 3" is a big difference.

I was suprised at the color, it was much brighter than the 32". I am very happy with the picture and sound. For movies I use a home theater system. For local TV I use the TV speakers. They work and image pretty well. Few days after I bought this TV it went up to $999. So got it at a very good price. Would buy it again. This is not a $2000+ XBR monitor. For the price it is an excellent TV.

Weakness:

Remote is the size of a 2x4 (I know, I know, what a ridiculous concern but that's the only weakness I can come up with).

When I first got this TV, I was upgrading from a 25" Toshiba and I was blown away. Currently in a new house with a huge living room and the 36" seems small, but for under $1000, I don't believe this TV can be beat. Like so many of the other reviewers, the DVD picture quality is exceptional and regular TV (with a digital cable box) is above average. I am a DVD junkie, though, so I have been nothing but pleased.

No PIP was a disappointment, but spend the extra 100 bucks if it's that big a deal. Easy to use menu features and the remote controls my Sony DVD player and VCR, even if it awkward to hold. Flat picture screen is a noticable difference and the colors are vivid and true.

If you can't afford the WEGA series and HDTV is not your priority right now, definitely go with this terrific Trinitron from Sony. You won't be disappointed!

Strength:

Good picture. Reasonable size for a 35" TV. I.E. Not overly wide or deep.

Weakness:

No front AV input. Not enough inputs overall. No Component input

Spent a fair amount of time researching and searching for a decent 35 to 36" TV. TV is intended to be a second TV (have a 50" Mitsu in my dedicated theater) replacing an ageing JCPenney 27". Unfortunately a determining factor was overall TV width as my existing cabinet was limited to 36" in width. Would have preferred a Toshiba Cinema Series but the 36" model is over 38" wide.

The Sony does have a good picture. While it doesn't allow for seperate video settings for each input, it does allow the preset Standard, Vivid and Movie picture settings to be tweaked seperately. Therefore allowing for quick switching between video settings based on the selected source.

Very much wish it had better input flexibility. Even an additional S-Video input would have been welcome. I ran an AV cable with gendar changer from the back to the front to compensate for the lack of front AV inputs.

The final factor in my decision to purchase was the seemingly unbelieveable price break on the set at Circuit City. $679.99 through 11/21/01. I checked at Fry's, Best Buy, Tweeters and another local store and couldn't find it for less than $799. In fact, even Circuit City had it in their 11/25/01 Sunday ad for $799.

Ultimately the lack of certain features was made up for by the great price.

One other REALLY frustrating shortcoming is the complete lack of support for DishNetwork/Echostar satellite boxes on the remotes pre-programmed codes. Even called Sony to be sure there wasn't some "code" I had overlooked. They made up some cock-n-bull story about not being able to support all satellite receivers. I'm sure it had nothing to due with Sony's cozy relationship with Direct TV. All DirectTV boxes appear to be supported. Their solution was to suggest that I go through the manual "search" process....which would require me to press the Power and Channel Up button up to 999 times!!! HEHEHE. I don't think so!!!

SONY TV!

Weakness:

Weakness? I said it's a SONY TV.

Saw an ad in the paper for this TV for $649.00 at a local TV / Furniture store. I called Sears and they said they would match the price. (Right now it's on sale there for $699.00 - Saved another $50.00!) I can't believe what I paid for this TV, It is so crisp and clear. (And I just got it last night, can't wait to really fine tune it) I have the full surround sound, minus the center channel (Klipsh SC-1 coming UPS monday) hooked up so on my way home I picked up an S-video cable from Radio Shack (the old RCA only had a composite input) and Pearl Harbor from BB. Movie was OK, but the picture was unbelievable through the S-video! After the movie I turned on some cable, and the picture looked great. I was also amazed at how good the surround sound from the TV sounded. No regrets, at all. Like everyone here says, if you are on a budget and don't NEED hdtv - look into this TV. Haggle, IT WORKS!!!!

Strength:

Great picture, good sound, Sony brand, product design, user friendly, flatness of screen

Weakness:

No component video inputs, you have to turn T.V sound off to use T.V. audio out, 1 S-video

We purchased this T.V. for christmas and have loved it over the past month. We are upgrading from a 20 year old wooden console RCA T.V. which still has a good picture, even thought it if very ugly.

I did a lot of research and narrowed my choices to the 35 inch Sony and the 36 inch JVC. I was also debating about waiting for the new Trinitrons to come out to see if it would have component video inputs. But the great sale price that I got the T.V. for influnced me to purchase the T.V. now. When comparing the Sony Trinitrons flat screen to all other Brand names the picture quality of the Sony was so much better. The picture quality with satalite is great. Even though the JVC had all of the functions and extras that I wanted in a new TV (component video inputs and S-video, front AV inputs) the picture quality of the Sony was just that much better in my opinion. I was also very happy with the price.

Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I hope that the TV will last for many years to come.

I swear there is a picture issue on this tv, it seems that if you pay attention to the color in human faces, they change slightly from bright to dull ... i hope this isnt yet another Lemon. First i bought a 32 Inch Phillips with sound issues. Then i figured Sony "The Bigest Name", so i lugged a TV nearly 200lbs home, an i swear i'm going to have to take it back. It might seem that im crazy with the picture issue i am noticing ... but for money spent, it better work right!

Strength:

Great picture and very good sound. Nice menus and good feature set.

Weakness:

Needs another set of inputs and outputs. On the expensive side for a 35" TV but it had the best picture out there.

Very good picture ... everyone comments on it when they see it. The menu system is easy to use and has lots of features. I like the variable line-level audio outputs since I listen to it through my stereo. The built-in speakers aren't bad either ... good enough that I actually use the TV speakers for my center channel because I have literally no room for a center speaker. Makes a weird noise when I turn it off each time, but it doesn't seem to be anything detrimental (and it has always done this).

Strength:

Flatness of the screen, DVD picture quality

Weakness:

Sometimes seems out of focus when watching regular TV

This is an excellent TV for watching DVD's. I was very impressed with the size of this television when I got it into my home. It's huge! Of course, I was watching on a 19" before I bought this one.

I was a little dissapointed with the picture quality when watching normal television broadcasts. The picture seems to be a little blurred and out of focus at times. But I bought this TV to watch DVD's on anyway and the S-Video picture quality is amazing! I also have a home theater set-up, so watching movies at home is great.

I would defenitly recomend this TV for anyone who is looking for a quality set to watch DVD's and can't afford to get a 16:9 televison. Eventhough this set is a 4:3 model, the letterboxing isn't unpleasant to watch. It's a lot better than having to zoom in the see anything like I did on my 19".
