Strength:

You gotta have some to lift it!

Weakness:

SONY

I bought this set as a family x-mas gift in '99 and by summer 2001 it started to act up,it died by 11/01. It has been into the shop 7 times since-a real joy considering the weight, and closest repair is 70 miles away!It has died again and the repair center will not take it back and sony says tough luck charlie! Screw Sony and their junk!

Strength:

Awesome color and clarity. Very good sound for a TV.

Weakness:

'Waves' on horizontal scrolling. Left 20% of the screen is dark. Sharpness control is WAY to strong.

The picture is indeed stunning. DVDs and Video Games look beautiful. The audio is the best I've heard from a TV, but not up to HT standards.
Now, the bad news.. The left 20 of the screen is noticably darker and it's VERY obvious on a full grey screen. At that 20% mark there is also a distortion that is very annoying on anything that scrolls horizontally - the image compresses, then expands. The sharpness control on the 'Movie' setting is gentle and I set it up about 15%. However, on the other color settings, the first 'tick' on the scale throws the sharpness WAY out of whack. For example, I set the sharpness to the 'Sports' setting's first tick (effectively turning sharpness on) and a football game's score overlay is almost unreadable.
I'm gonna call Sony and see what they can do for me. A $1500 Trinitron should not have these problems.

Strength:

Picture Quality

Weakness:

None so far...

Had this set for 3 days now and the picture quality is outstanding for DVD and Sega Dreamcast. Cable looks a bit grainy, but I guess thats becuase of the signal. I noticed when I first hooked up Dreamcast that the picture was tilted, I was worried I'd have to get a tech. out here, but was pleased to find it had tilt control and was able to take care of the problem. So far I'm very happy with it and it beats my old 20" Panasonic!

Strength:

Very sharp picture, controls on top of TV, plenty of video inputs, decent speakers, decent remote.

Weakness:

VERY heavy (176 lbs). Make sure you have something solid to put it on.

This is my first quality TV. The picture is fantastic. After hearing some people describe problems with the setup when they received their Wega TVs, and seeing the way the delivery guy was handling mine, I was pleasantly surprised to find no problems. The sound is pretty good, but that won't matter much after my sound system arrives. Like the poster below me, I hooked my Sega Dreamcast up to it and was blown away. Once I get my DVD player I expect the same. If you can afford it and have something to put it on, you should consider this TV. In my opinion, there is no other TV in its price range that has a higher quality picture.

Strength:

Great piture clarity and color.

Weakness:

Defect when watching DVD through component video

The picture quality with this TV is wonderful. But the only time I turn on my Tv is if I'm watching a movie on DVD.
The set I currently have is my second one becase when it is hooked up by component video on dark frames of movies the screen is considerably darker on the left side, and you get a 4 inch strip on the right side that is considerably lighter. The same thing was wrong with my first one and it got worse as time went on. I tried 3 different models of DVD players.

If you are in the market for one of these TV's it is hard to see the problem when you in the store because it so bright. I watch a majority of my movies at night and it is very noticable in the dark. I am very pleased with the picture quality, but the problem I am having is pissing me off. You expect top quality for the money you pay for these things.

Strength:

Flat Screen, TV looks impressive even when off, excellent detail, superior quality with DVD source.

Weakness:

Red strips on the left and right hand side of the screen with factory settings. Some color blotches. Picture tube oscillates sometimes...

To all WEGA owners!! Get yourself the VIDEO ESSENTIALS audio/video system calibration DVD! After calibrating the WEGA using this wonderful tool, the picture quality is unbelievable. No more problems with the red strips, or blotches of colors in the corners of the screen. The black level is incredible and detail is improved dramatically. Bottom line: the Sony factory settings are a joke.....

3 Stars with factory settings. 5 stars after proper calibration.

Strength:

Beautiful picture, excellent 3D comb filter.

Weakness:

Severe Color banding problems on the component video imputs!

I have tried two Sony KV32FV26 sets and both have had severe color banding problems with the Component Video inputs. I tried three different DVD players & various cables to troubleshoot the problem but everything pointed to the Television. ALso, the plastic cover for the infrared headphone sensors came off on both sets. Both of the sets I have had were brand new and manufactured in August 2000. Everything else on this set has worked fairly well...although the first set would make a loud crackling sound at random times while on. I want to keep this set but the problems may exist in in all KV32FV26 currently being produced by Sony.

Strength:

Good picture quality on KV32FV26. What one would expect from a medium to high end television set. Silver box and flat style screen are decent looking as features of a piece of furniture.

Weakness:

Factory set colors much too red
Sound is a bit strange when in SRS mode
BIG PROBLEM: severe color banding with component inputs
Sony does not answer their telephone - EVER.

Factory set colors much too red, however this was easy enough to fix. Folks complain of geometry and headaches - personally, I don't get it, it seems fine for a TV set. I am very picky, particulary about audio, but I know when I'm being unreasonable. Incidentally, sound is a bit strange / muffled when in SRS mode. For normal television viewing, I find the mono setting works best to hear dialogue. A center channel is clearly missing.

MY BIG PROBLEM: when using component inputs from DVD player, I get severe color banding. This does not happen with video and S-VHS inputs. If anyone else has had this problem and has a possible solution, I would like to hear from you. Our Sony technician does not have a clue where the problem lies. My cable and Panasonic (RV-30) DVD player are fine.

PS At the store, I saw my set next to the new XBR - made mine look like a $500 RCA. However, at home it looks great - bigger than I imagined.

Strength:

Appearence, flat picture tube, picture quality

Weakness:

Weight, width

Initially I was setting my sights on one of the 32" Panasonic Flat screen TVs. I have an older 27" Panasonic that I still use (black screen/semi flat), although the side firing speakers were a poor design. My hope was that for considerably less money that I could approach the picture quality of the WEGA. However, after reading the reviews on the Panasonic Flat Screens these TVs appear to have more bad units with serious problems then the largest problem some folks here have identified with the geometry. I took the gamble and spent $1400 on the FV15 model, $200 over the FS10 to get a better digital filter, not for the PIP feature. So far I love this set. It by far has the best picture of any TV set I have owned. The color seems a little biased towards green which I managed to reduce but not eliminate. I am getting a copy of Video Essentials and will see if this ultimately helps me to tune the color to a natural balance. As far as the geometry problem I haven't noticed anything wrong here, although I've only had the set a week.

Strength:

had a great picture, lots of detail

Weakness:

20% of left side of screen was always darker, no matter what you watched, was much worse on solid black screen, such as the screen saver on my sony dvds560d.thats not all, i relize its a flat screen but it could not hold a straight line, always curved on the ends, such as widescreen format, which almost all dvds are on,the on screen menu was jumbled up with curved boxes. I had the sony tech come out to fix the problem(darker area, curved lines).the man sits me down and sez sony sent out a memo, that they dont know how to fix the darker area(not even a new picture tube)would fix the problem, something about the gel bars go bad, as far as the curved corners he might be able to ajust some of it out but that is normal for wegas or vegas.then he told me, you want a good tip, take this tv back and buy something else!well a did what anyone else would do, if you bought it at a good price, got a second opion.wouldnt cha know, he said the same thing!!!!!!!!

i think ive probably said enough, if you own one or thinking of buying one, look, read, and think about what ive said!!!!!!and every thing else i own is sony audiovideo and works great!!!!!just no wega!!!!!oooohhhh ya if you sratch the silver on the wega, hauling this pig around sony does not make touch up paint!!dispite what the salesman tells you..but i can say the picture was clear, cartoons looked great,i agree with one other review, the people did look grainy at times.
