Ordered my KV-32FV1 in early December 1998 from a local stereo/tv import store. It arrived in the middle of January 1999. Initially the picture quality was only good with poor video settings for all four pre-coded options. All had too much color and brightness to name the worse. After readjusting them by my own sight, picture quality was good. On some side panning scenes, there was noticeble distortion. After two in house bad alignments, the set was taken to the local Sony warranty shop for a computer alignment. At this same time I got the Video Essentials DVD inorder to redue the user alignments. Got the set back and spent a complete evening following the VE instructions.

Here are my noticeable changes off the VE standards for best picture: color strength had to be set lower due to glowing reds, added more picture
(contrast), and more sharpness. The VE disk is great. Adjust by it then customise away the set's non NTSC faults to suite yourself. In the VIVID mode, the picture will be gainier no matter what you do. In the MOVIE mode, sharpness is softer even if you adjust it high. It is as if the adjustment is only a fine tune to what Sony pre-coded into these two.

Now my picture quality is very very good. The only reason why not perfect:
the bottom 4" of the screen has a 1/8" max upward curve of the horizonal plain.
This is noticeable with vertical scrolling titles and when viewing in 16:9
format. I plan to take the set in again before the warranty runs out.

Watching "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "The Matrix" yields better picture
quality than seen in the theatre, just a smaller screen.
