Weakness:

Sony's tech support and repair manual is a complete joke. Their customer support lines are worthless and they have completely insulated themselves from ever having to deal with a customer in a repair situation. Can not even sell parts to me that I need in a set that is only two years old. Will NEVER buy another Sony manufactured product. EVER.

Mom purchased new $900 Sony and purchased extra $130 warranty contract. This Sony KV-27FV15 rcvd slight water damage after 4mo use (roof leak). Sound Advice sent out two techs who advised: 1) That neither warranty covers water damage. 2) It is not economical to repair. They pulled the plug on the TV and charged her $45 for their wonderful advice.

Strength:

Picture quality.

Weakness:

I now have 2 large paper weights. What else can I say.

I first brought a 27" Sony trinotron, then 2 months later I bought a 32 inch because I was so impressed from the picture quality of the 27". About 7 months later the picture goes blank on the 27" with sound. The very next day I plugged in a component into the S-video input on the 32" and the picture was black and white. Neither were a year old, but I was about to PCS(get stationed) to Japan and did not have time to take it to the shop.

Strength:

good picture when working

Weakness:

picture goes out intermit.

tv barely two years old when video started going out. problem sometimes would not reappear for weeks. spent a couple of hundred dollars trying to get set repaired with no success. Techs would say problem fixed, bad solder connections. Then problem would reappear after repair warranty over. Last repair visit tech said picture tube had short that required tube replacement. More cost than original price of tv. Did not replace, tv still works fine most of the time. TV now in unused bedroom. Tech also said this was common problem with sony picture tubes. Sony said warranty over tough luck. I won't buy another sony tv.

Strength:

color

Weakness:

Picture tube sucks

I used to be a Sony believer until now, how ironic! I bought my 27" TV based on strong performance by my 20". Now the tube alignment has gone to hell. It's most obvious with widescreen movies - the picture is at an angle and one corner is distorted. I am screwed because its no longer on waranty. Sony advises me to have repair shop fix it - at my expense of course. Spending additional money to fix a manufacturing defect would just piss me off further. Sony has lost my respect and future customers.
