Samsung TSL3295HF Standard Televisions

Samsung TSL3295HF Standard Televisions

DESCRIPTION

Samsung makes a new generation of DynaFlat HD Televisions. Technological obstacles have been overcome to present a flat image to the viewer that has virtually no picture distortions from reflections or glare. DynaFlat HD is dynamically changing the viewing experience. Samsung raises the bar by taking any standard video and upconverting it to a progressive scan, ""flicker free"", 480p display. Everyday TV just got better, but that is not all. The TSL3295HF is also capable of meeting the challenge of new digital television formats.

Strength:

-Cheap -I love this TV, just be aware of it's flaws and you won't be disappointed.

Weakness:

-One component input?! -No zoom in DTV (HDTV) mode for 4:3 content -Normal picture setting sucks, use Mild if you can't calibrate. -Massive in dimmensions and weight -Pay extra for outdated Dolby Surround Sound -27" model has cooler pop out input panel on side, 32" model is always exposed

Was wondering through Futureshop (Canadian BestBuy) and happened to see the Samsung next to the 32" XBR and instantly fell in love. The picture was so much nicer running the demo DVDs. I went hope and read all that I could, and there wasn't much, but what there was called it the XBR Killer. I started to like it even more... I wasn't in the market for a new TV, but I had to have it, and bought it anyways... I've been watching HDTV feeds from Detriot via Roger's Cable and it's fanatasic, but as to be expected, there are almost no HDTV shows I want to watch. CSI is the exception, it's truely excellent. And it only get's that much more gripping in HDTV. However, my TV has 2 major HDTV flaws, the geometery on my model has pincusion problems. The screen bows outwards. Normally you wouldn't notice, however 16:9 HDTV gives you black bars at the top, and since most HDTV is just upconverted 4:3, you end up with black bars at the side, reducing your 32" TV to about 24". Upcoverted content is still better then cable, but 24"? That's the other flaw, there's no zoom mode for HDTV. It's been disabled. If you could zoom the screen at this point, the TV would truly be awesome. The PIP option to split the screen in half is interesting, however the aspect is so warped it's useless. There is one terrible flaw on the TV luckily you can turn it off. White text on black backgrounds as you'll on some ticker based information channels is brutal. Credits at the end of a film? Unreadable! The TV has some of the worst Velocity Scan Modulation you'll ever see. It can be turned off in the service menu, unfortuately I forget how to do it. Check the reviews on the rest of this line TSL27* & TSL32*, you find it like I did. The remote isn't fantastic, but it's alright, and more stylish than most black rectangles. Useful buttons are hidden under a flap, and the joystick well, it's purely for show and is nothing more than a button. I'm using my receiver remote instead. A few months ago I saw the similiar Black model (TSL3293HF) at CostCo and I believe it was CDN$1999. Alot more than I paid last year for it's big brother on Yonge St. It pays to haggle!

Strength:

Fantastic picture quality with progessive scan dvd player. I don''t have a set top box yet so can''t comment on hdtv picture quality.

Weakness:

Slight bowing of picture at top in 16X9 mode. Only one component video input.

A great tv at a great price. I am really impressed with the picture quality of dvd playback. I use a jvc xv-sa75gd progressive scan dvd player and the combination is stunning, especially with animated features like Shrek. Out of the box the contrast is jacked up to 100%, so you have to turn that down from the get go or risk premature screen failure. I used Video Essentials to dial in the picture better. I noticed a slight downward bend at the top of the picture when in 16x9 mode. One other minor annoyance was an error message that came up when watching dvd''s. "unit not connected" would flash on the screen while watching dvd''s. I sent the tv out for repair and the problem seems to have been resolved. For those of you who don''t have a Video Essentials or Avia Guide to home theater setup disc I will list the settings that work pretty well on my set. Brightness 55 Contrast 30 [very important] Color 40 Sharpness 20 Tint 50/50 Good luck and enjoy the picture.

Strength:

Great picture clarity, flatscreen, split screen PIP, Freeze Frames,

Weakness:

Only 1 Component Video Input (not sure why they only included 1?!?!) Menu''''s can be a bit confusing initially....

Just picked up this set at BJ''''s Wholesale club at an incredible price of $999.99. After tax and a two year extended warranty, the damage was only just over $1100. So far, so good! The picture quality of this set is incredible. Even my analog coaxial cable looks better than I thought it would (just as good as my 32" Toshiba analog set). But where you can really see the difference is with DVDs. Picture and clarity is amazing. I can''''t really give an opinion on the actual HDTV feed as of yet, going to hold out for a year or so before I pick up a set top HD Decoder. But I''''m VERY pleased with this product and I doubt you''''d be able to find it anywhere else for this price. For $999.99, this set is a no brainer.........

Strength:

Great picture, cheap

Weakness:

Not sony, 1 component video input

This is a great product. You really cant find a better value hdtv. This tv costs about 600 dollars less than the xbr from sony and has great features. There is a side by side picture in picture, flat screen, and a pretty cabinet, among other things. The one thing that im sorta annoyed with is the 1 component video input, but that is the only thing wrong with it. It has great sound too if you even use your tv speakers. You can hook up center and surround speakers directly to the back.
Overall this tv is excellent.
