Strength:

excellent picture/sound. multiple inputs, nice look''s.

Weakness:

inability to take progressive DVD inputs. but this will be solved soon as DVD players will be getting a more "PC like" RCA interface.

Excellent picture no doubt but In trying to use a progressive player, it seemed to give me a unusable signal message whenever i switch to progressive mode, Works fine When i use normal interlaced signal. I am using component video interface between the two. I tried several players like panasonic dvd-rp56, samsung, but same thing all the time. Then finally i contacted thomson electronics and found out that the component video inputs only accepts interlaced inputs NOT PROGRESSIVE. Also please dont try to connect the progressive input for long as it can actually DAMAGE the TV as it is configured to accept normal NTSC at 32 HZ whereas the progressie one is at 64HZ. Thankfully The built in line doubler compensates and the signal seems progressive (with horizontal and vertical losses offcourse common to line doublers), but don''t lose heart, I have done a lot of comparison''s and if you compare this and any other progressive dvd driven HDTV/DIGITAL set, side by side i am sure you will find no difference though. the colours are absolutely devine, this monitor shines. Monitor hooks up with pc absolutely fine, gave an excellent progressive picture when hooked to my 800*400 laptop. sound is excellent. i have not tried it with an HD tuner yet. will keep everyone posted as i explore this wonderfull set.

Strength:

Killer image with DTS-100 HD Receiver. Lots of inputs. Beautifully made and looks techy with matching stand.

Weakness:

Won't take progressive composite signal from Toshiba 5109.

This monitor is a beautiful thing. If you are going for an HD set without the big bucks, this is for you. I chose it for the SVGA connector to the DTS-100 HD receiver from RCA, and the fact that it is a progressive scan monitor. There are no scan lines and the artifacting is minimal, and I mean minimal. Cable looked terrible, but now that I am digi-sat, it is flawless. HBO has an HDTV channel (509 on DirecTV) and I sat perched on my toes, inches from the screen marvelling at the clarity. Amazing.
The fact that it has dual SVGA ports in leads me to believe that it truly is digital and progressive, so how come I can't get a signal from the progressive component out on my new Toshiba 5109 DVD player?? The interlaced component out is readily available, but progressive... nothing. (The 5109 has dual component out: progressive and interlaced.) That is the only thing that kills me. I heard and read that a progressive scan monitor with the same in a DVD player was unparalleled in image quality, but has yet still to be seen.
Overall, this box gets 5 stars for performance and value over an HD set, but watch out for progressive scan DVD players, they might not be compatible.
