bought in 2000 . that might seem like a long time but i'm 50 and have owned many tv's over the years and they even continue to work just fine even when I upgrade to new tv because of my desire for better features etc. But I guess now days you just have to expect everything you buy has a much shorter life than they used to. my proscan lost it's sound completely while I was watching it one day. never had a tv lose sound before. unfortunately like in cars and trucks you probably will have much better luck with the higher end Japanese sets rather than the cheaper models. I'm not sure if the rca proscan is American made or not but it dosn't matter I wiil never buy anything RCA again.

Strength:

The guide+ is a nice feature.

Weakness:

Poor quality.

I am also having many problems with my set. It was repaired last year and again this year. The latest repair is for the high pitched sound that others have mentioned in their review. It took over a month because acording to the repair shop they were waiting for parts. I finally received it back from the shop two weeks ago and now it is making the high pitched sound again. Do not buy this set if it is still around. I will never buy another RCA/Proscan product again.

Strength:

Great picture and many features -- when it works. My wife and I love the feature where the set downloads the TV Guide like information, and then displays program title information in a subtitle as you surf.

Weakness:

The tuner in my set needs to be "fixed" every year, on schedule, at about $100 a pop. A friend who has a smaller ProScan set has the same exact problem. I am now looking into the class action suit filed against Thomson for this problem. Save yourself the grief and do not buy this set.

Do not buy a ProScan TV. They all have a history of problems with the tuner.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality. Flicker-free and rapid channel tuner.

Weakness:

Tuner conks out. My uncle and I bought the same model. Both of our sets now have a malfunctioning tuner. While I can watch the S-video input source correctly, anything that needs to be tuned (VCR, CATV) often gets messed up. Incidentally, the PIP tuner is perfectly capable of tuning even when the main picture is messed up.

The color saturation and display are excellent. I still watch all of my DVDs on this unit.
Unfortunately, its life is ending after less than three years--the primary tuner is conking out.

Strength:

Great Picture, easy set up

Weakness:

high pitch until warmed up, sound

First I must set the record straight. Proscan is not made by RCA, the high end RCA (not all) and GE TVs are made by Thomson. Thomson was spun off of RCA years ago and is a European company.

I've read the reviews here and while I have had some of the same problems, they seem minor in some regard. Here's my history. I got this TV at Circuit City open box for $550, they through in a 5 year warranty, I also got a proscan VCR and DVD for $99 each, great setup. I have the high pitch sound until the unit warms up. It is a piece of the board the vibrates and needs to be secured, I just haven't taken the time to look for it. As respects the sound it acts like it drops the center channel, this is not a problem for me. I use my TV as a monitor. The receiver of my HT system controls everything so the sound problem that developed is not an issue.

The picture on this TV is outstanding. I've had it for several years now and I am still amazed as we are watching DVDs on how sharp and clear the picture is. The only draw back on the picture is when watching black and white movies you will get a little yellow or blue "burn" in the corner. It goes away quickly enough once something else is placed there. Since I still have the warranty I may ask them to fix that problem.

We have gotten more from this TV than we could have expected. Use it as a monitor and you will love it.

Strength:

Great picture, easy setup features

Weakness:

This set is filled with problems: audio/video outputs malfunction; company is less than helpful in fixing problems.

When this set works it is an awesome set. When I forked out $1300 for a set I figured I would be getting a set that would little to no maintenance. My first set had some kind of malfunction that left a line at the bottom of the set. The repairman informed me the problem would cost more to fix than the set was worth. After talking to Thomson Consumer Electronics and Future Shop for 3 months to see who would replace the set, Future shop gave in and gave me a new set. You all might be interested to know that Proscan is actually made by RCA, one of the worst T.V. makers on the market, according to their repair records and customer satisfaction. The second set lasted about 2 months before the sound started fading in and out. I took it in for repair again and $130 later I ended up with a decent set....for about 3 months. This set has an awesome picture, but it isn't worth the headaches. I have grown use to turning up and down the volumn on my set with it's constant volumn changes. If you do decide to by a Proscan realize right away that this company will fight you every step of the way if anything goes wrong. The T.V. tuner is the most recent problem with this set. It won't even pick up certain channels anymore. I highly recommend stearing clear of Proscan, RCA, and Thomson Consumer Electronics.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality, good added features (ie 2 x S video and other plugs), Guide Plus Gold (is great), generally a nice TV

Weakness:

Remote has a poor layout (I always fumble with the buttons.), not enough channels to program info into.

This TV is a very good value for its price. I wanted a good picture when I went shopping for a TV but I did not want to pay the big money for a Sony Wega. The Sony picture in my mind is a little better than the one I have but I paid half the price. The picture is not twice as good on the Wega. I also have a Proscan DVD player and together they give a phenomenal viewing and sound experience.

The Guide Plus Gold feature is great. No more fumbling through TV Guides. It is quick and easy.

The remote sucks with this TV. Some buttons are too small and not located properly. You can't feel for the buttons you have to look for them in the light.

I give this TV 4/5 stars because I know the Sony is better and the remote sucks.

Strength:

Excellent picture. Easy to setup. Styling of the unit Guild Plus.

Weakness:

Factory must not be taking time to check for defects. Had note in the instructions that the inputs in the back were mislabled. Had to have repairman up first week to fix noise coming from back for the set.

I was set to buy a Sony 32inch Wega, but the price was to high in my opinion. When I saw the picture of the Proscan I was very impressed. The set had all the features a high end TV has, but at half the cost of the Sony. The Guild Plus is great and now my 9 year old can set the VCR without my help.
After reading a number of review on the set(32700 & 32600)
I was set to get the 700, but the supplier had none and was not sure when he would get more, so I went with the 600. The only difference is the number of lines. Found a supplier on the net for the set at $699 delivered. It beat the closest person by $100 plus they wanted $140 to ship it.
The only bad thing I was afraid of and I came true was from the reviews. A number of people reported a high pitch sound coming for the set as it was on. My set too has that sound and it should be fixed soon.
It sounds funny to me how out of the 6 reviews people wrote 3 had that problem. I would hope RCA will work harder on their quality control in the future, for they have a good product here
