Strength:

Does transmit a nice clear picture in the basic tv, s-video and component video modes. Excellent picture and sound control optiions.

Weakness:

The AV4 problem listed above

I just recently purchased a Sony Progressive Scan DVD player to take advantage of the HDTV function of the AV4 input on this television and it turns out that the progressive scan mode results in a small white line above the picture just as the last reviewer experienced. I went on to the Philips HDTV listserv and saw that many people have had this problem with Philips hdtv sets and that Philips is aware of the problem. In reality, they say that the AV$ (progressive hdtv input) is really made for a converter box and not a dvd, so if you're looking for a set to watch dvds in high definnition (progressive) you should look for another brand. Otherwise, i've hads no problems with the set as a basic digital telkevision, but would have not spent the extra $ for the "HDTV" since i wanted it mostly for dvds...

Strength:

none

Weakness:

First small screen out the door comes in dead last. Lousy in ntsc, lousy in atsc

So I bought this HDTV, knowing it had problems in 1080i and 480p(The picture pincusioned on the top, and a blue, green, red lined apppeared, with some white banding below it). Philips acknowledged difficulties with the set. I told Good Guys to go ahead the the Philips fix, and 3 weeks later, the tv arrived still not working.
