Strength:

Picture quality, menus

Weakness:

minor dim spot (see review)

I picked up this set in September at Vanns in Bozeman, Montana. It was the floor model, so I got $100 off the price, and picked it up for $500. This is an excellent set. The cable channels that get good reception here (ESPN 1 and 2, The Weather Channel) look very sharp.
Watching DVD's on this set is very nice too. It has none of the rainbow effects on certain patters I see in my parents 27" Sony, though this could be because my set has S-Video and their set does not. The only feature I wish this set had was a way to squish the picture down for watching anamorphic DVD's at full resolution. Since the Sony XBR is the only direct view set I know of that can do this though, I guess I cant complain too much.

Their is a small dim spot near the upper left corner of the screen, but it is only noticable on very bright solid colors that appear in this area, and is a non issue on DVD's

An excellent set.

I purchased this unit in 1997 & am very pleased with it. The 750 lines made the sharpest image available at the time. However, isn't quite upto HDTV standards, but still blows away 90% of other products currently available. The the colors are well represented w/o significant distortion unlike most Trinitrons, but black is more like a very dark charcoal. I'm looking to upgrdae since my TV is MUCH smaller than my sound.
