Strength:

Quality picture, PIP (never use it though), Features--S-video, Component inputs, very attractive, good sound for TV speakers--except when Bass is turned up.

Weakness:

Need remote to switch sources!!! Not a flat screen. When heavy bass is passed through the TV speakers--it vibrates--eeeech! Remote so-so. Build quality--plastic enclosure is very weak (but that''''s how they make them all anymore). This sucker is HEAVY too, hard to move--but all the 36" are going to top heavy.

At $800 it''''s a good buy. Would''''ve preferred a flat screen, but couldn''''t get into them for under $1200--which was more than I was willing to spend. Not sure what the other reviewers were talking about regarding shielding issue (check your other components or your wiring), or another about some vertical lines or something??? Did they hook up a DVD player--use component video or S-video??? I never had any such problems--with a good source the picture is very good to outstanding. Has some decent features--three or four selectable settings ("Cinema", "Regular" and couple of user settings) for picture control which is great. Bright and vibrant picture. Wouldn''''t call this the best buy in Audio or Video equipment I ever had, but at $800 it''''s a very decent quality 36" TV.

Strength:

Hmmm... couldn't find any

Weakness:

Where do I begin?
bad magnetic shielding
so-so picture
few features(compared with similar Toshiba)
bad(cheap)remote

They just don't make 'em like they used to...
Thought I would replace my 7 yo 35" Toshiba when the power supply started having problems... so my dealer recommended the JVC. Well, I just spent the weekend with 2 different sets - first one came, was hooked up, only to find a case of INCREDIBLY bad magnetic shielding. My expensive, shielded AV speakers affected the picture from ACROSS THE ROOM!! The only way it would go away was when I actually removed the speakers from the house. Now these are the same speakers that resided peacefully right next to my old 35" Toshiba for a year without a problem... so... had 'em bring out a replacement set; same problem. The picture was not up to the quality I was used to with my Tosh, either...
To the dealers credit, they were very understanding, the guys at Star Club are the best. Too bad I can't say that for the TV, though...
So, I decided to get my old Tosh fixed... even at close to the price of a new one. That thing shut down the JVC.

Strength:

The picture quality is excellent when still shots are shown.
I would be happy to keep it if it didn't have the defect I discovered.

Weakness:

Horizontal lines are visible only when the camera pans up or down quickly.More noticeable when the background colour is bright coloured i.e. white or light blue. The movie Shrek really brings out this defect with the scanning lines. This visible split second defect is very annoying. It really bugs me. The scanning lines or horizontal lines are really noticeable on the left and right side of the screen. I tried to detect these lines on the sets in the department stores and noticed it only on the 36 inch D series model AV36D502 with picture in picture like the one i have purchased. I have to return the model 502 that I have at home until the manufacturer rectifies this defect. I like the set but not with this defect.

I'm waiting for the manufacturer to rectify this problem so I'll stay away from this 36 inch set AV36D502. I may have to purchase the 32" set instead.
