Strength:

Sound

Weakness:

Picture. You should not have to run picture setting at 100% to achieve a good picture. Geometry is the worst I have seen yet.

Purchased this set as a replacement for a Sony KV35S42 which had a large bright circular spot in the center of its screen. I found the JVC 36D302 a poor replacement with a good picture only when the picture setting is set to the max, geometry is a major problem. Letterbox material has the upper black portion curving downward and bottom black portion curving upward that more resembles a human eye than a letterbox. Scrolling news updates as found on CNBC, CNN or FOX news move from right to left upward and at the extreme left appear to hook. Not recommened for one who enjoys HT.

Strength:

Great Picture Great Sound Very nice appearance

Weakness:

Not enough inputs

Very Good Picture, Very Good Sound. Definitely seemed to have a much larger viewable area then the other 36" televisions at the store. For anyone who doesn''t want to spend $1200 to $1500 for a Sony or other expensive brand, this TV is a definite option at a much lower cost. I think it matches or beats most 36" TVs in picture/sound I would have liked to have more inputs, but everything else about the TV made me want it despite that problem.

Strength:

Excellent sound, clear sound, all the "bells and whistles"

Weakness:

None so far, except maybe that the remote might not be extremely comfortable for a "click jockey" to hold

I bought the JVC after a lot of comparison shopping. I thought it comparable to the similar Sony and Toshiba, but less expensive than the Sony and with a few more features than the Toshiba. In the stores, I liked the flat screens a little bit better, but didn't feel that the difference was worth all the extra cost, and know that I have the set at home, I don't find myself missing whatever it was that I saw in the flat screens. I also decided not to buy an hdtv until all the standards issues were resolved and the price dropped considerably.

The picture and sound on the JVC are really good, certainly as good as anything I saw in the stores. The price (an August sales price) was also attractive.

For my viewing room, I could (and maybe should) have bought a 32" screen. But the big size is great, if a bit indulgent.

For the person who is not ready to plunge for an hdtv or who, like me, is not overly impressed by flat screens, this is the top of the line and the best value.

Strength:

excellent picture out of the box. I use my H T so I cannot comment on the sound.

Weakness:

heavy silver colour does not match my other components

I have researched for the last 3 mo. before choosing the JVC
I did not want a projection tv and will consider this an interim until hdtv is affordable and accessable.this unit has composite and s video. I am not interested in pip or other features but a simple reliable unit to match my modest entry level HT.After 3 mo. the product appears reliable.

Strength:

Very nice picture - quite sharp

Weakness:

Definite geometry problem
Screen glare

The picture is outstanding. The glare off the screen is very annoying. The geometry is a problem. The bottom half of the sreen curves up at the bottom left and right. The problem is more pronounced at the lower left and is apparant only when there is a written message moving accross the screen (like a stock ticker or CNN news). I had the serviceman come and look and he said he has seen worse. I told him that the salesman offered to send another set. He said good luck and offered that the manufacturers rarely get the geometry correct on the 36 inch screens. The second set had exactly the same problem. I went to two outlets and looked at the sets on display and saw the same problem.

It is too bad because the picture is quite good for the price. Note that the problem is not apparant when viewing a movie or any program where a straight line is not drawn along the bottom of the screen.
