Strength:

For a low-cost consumer television, the JVC AV-27D302 comes with a lot of higher-end features, like the ability to store settings and recall them (along with "theater" and "standard" presets), and component input for nearly perfect color from your DVD player. The speakers provide surprisingly good stereo seperation (if you turn off extended audio features; see below) for a consumer television. Finally, the remote can be programmed to control TV, VCR, and DVD player.

Weakness:

All consumer TVs have problems holding black at black and have geometry issues when the overall picture level is too high, but the JVC AV-27D302 seems to have more pronounced issues along these lines. Color and tint are good, but everything else needs proper calibration along the lines of Joe Kane''s Video Essentials to get an acceptable picture. I must stress this: The "standard" and "theater" presets are not optimal; calibration is necessary. On the plus side, I calibrated it in 10 minutes, and since you can save your custom settings it''s a one-time hassle. The extended audio selections ("Hypersound" and "BBE") are completely worthless. Hypersound has more of an effect of switching the left and right channels than adding surround sound. BBE is supposed to be some sort of enhanced sound but just makes everything sound shrill and tinny. If you buy the set, leave these "enhancement" options off.

An acceptable performer and a good value. The perfect "second television" for non-discerning viewers and gaming systems.

Strength:

The display is cleaner and crisper than in the showroom. Set looks great, and already have recieved numerous compliments on it.

Weakness:

I must agree with some of the others...the speakers are good, but not up to par with the rest of the television.

I have looked for a good solid television, with a good screen size, low cost, and quality display. This is it. Easy setup with other compenents, looks sharp, not too big for room. A great addition to my home theatre.

Strength:

awesome design, picture quality, offers many inputs

Weakness:

speakers a bit weak

Picture with DVD, Playstation 2 and (digital) channels like HBO are excellent (!!), the speakers are rather weak (no real bass) but if you use this TV with a home theater system you don't really care.

Brings a lot of functions you don't need but they don't hurt you.

It's definetely the best picture, design and value for this price. Believe me, You can't go wrong with this model!

The picture quality on cable TV depends on the channels or your provider but not on this product. HBO and other pay channels have crisp and clean picture.

I am very satisfied so will you!

Strength:

Bang for the buck. Appears well built, screen display is good for this price range. Lots of video connections (component, s-video..) both front and back.

Weakness:

Cable TV will show every cable signal "wart". Cable looks good on some stations, grainy on others. Replace cable run with RG-6 cable to improve picture.

This is a second set for the den and not our primary viewing TV for DVDs. Used mostly for kid's viewing, PS2 and Nintendo GameCube. It makes a nice second TV for the money for someone on a tighter budget trying to stay near the $300.00 range.

Don't pay more that $300 to $330 for this set, it was overpriced at Sears at $399 and GoodGuys for $369.

Will report back again in ~3 months after trying DVD and component hookups.

Strength:

Good Looks, High resolution CRT, Nice features such as theatre, standard, custom for viewing pleasure. Component video in, S-video in, rca jacks, well designed remote.

Weakness:

I have no experience weaknesses with this set for the 4months that I have had it.

Needed a set for my dorm room for the best bang for the buck. The JVC AV27D302 fit the bill nicely. DVD video picture is just awesome, I love the resolution!! Kinda wish I would have gotten a 32" set instead of a 27" but we all live and learn. Have experienced no video shielding problems what so ever with this set. I have JBL S312's as mains, Studio center, and Bose rear speakers all mated to a Harman Kardon AMP, and JVC Progressive scan DVD player. Nice combo could not be happier!

Strength:

Picture Quality. Inputs.

Weakness:

None

Really nice picture, nice sharp & bright colors.
Some stations on cable a little grainy but that
might be because of the Cable wire. DVD & PS2
picture quality is excellent. Improved with S
Video hookup. We liked the picture best compared
to Sony & others. Nice looking TV also, I like the
silver better than black. Sound is good just from
the TV, has Bass & Treble controls plus a few other
features to improve sound.
