Strength:

The phenomenal picture - really gives you the movie theater experience. 9"CRT's. The decoder is built in and its a damn good one. Upgrades to 1080i over component input.

Weakness:

The only weaknesses are not it's fault - no DVI or HDMI port as they didn't exist when I bought the set.

I could not be happier with the picture and quality of this set. The 9" CRT's really sold me on this as the competition was all 7" and the blacks on this were better than anything else I looked at. The colors are vivid with a 3 dimensional feel to them. I had ruled out Mitsubishi's and was down to Sony and Pioneer but this one blew the others away. Had the unit for 4 years and have never had a glitch.

Strength:

Fantastic picture! It's very lifelike and three dimensional.
And it has the decoder/tuner intergrated into the set.
Nothing needed to display high definition signals. It's all set to go just like it is.

Weakness:

The only downfall with this set for me is a very important one. It won't display a 480p signal from a progressive DVD player. Don't waste the big bucks buying a high end progressive player for this set. It upconverts all signals to 1080i. Still a great picture, but the greatest one is from a progressive player, and this set can't use it. just but a real good interlaced player.

If I had to buy over again, I probobly would buy this set again. The other similar sets are more money, and most
don't have the decoder/tuner built in like this one. The picture is, indeed, very good. And I really wanted a set that could use a progressive DVD player, but you can't always get all the features you want. This set has many connections and jacks for a lot of things, so I would rate it a good buy.

Strength:

The HDTV reception is excellent. For recent films on HBO-HDTV, like American Beauty, the experience is almost like watching film with a movie projector in a dark room. I have compared this set with 64" offerings from Sony, Toshiba, Mitubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, and phillips. The images from the Zenith were superior. After purchase, you should hire a good video engineer to tune your HDTV. A correctly calibrated Zenith can rival the overall clarity of a 36" Sony WEGA XBR.

Weakness:

There are annoying iluminations coming from the 3 9" projectors in the bottom of the chassis. These iluminations become apparent during all dark picture sequences.

Absolutely the best 64" HDTV right now for under $15,000!

Strength:

This HDTV has the most incredible High Definition picture imaginable. I was considering for quite some time the Sony KVHD-1 which also has a great picture. However, the relatively small screen size for a true HDTV did bother me. To put things in perspective, I was NEVER a fan of rear projection TVs. I had never seen one that I thought came anywhere close to satisfying a true videophile. After seeing the Zenith (a TV brand I haven't had since I was a kid), I was in total awe. The richness of the picture, the sharpness, color and depth are all beyond belief. It is almost impossible to believe that a picture can be so sharp when stretched to 64". This set displays the FULL resolution of the HDTV standard. The set uses 9" guns which are capable of resolving the FULL sharpness of the HDTV signal. RPTVs with 7" guns can not do this nor can direct view picture tubes. The Sony direct view looked great but you can definitely see far more detail on this set. When viewing sports, you are on the playing field...nothing more nothing less. I see why this set has gotten the highest marks from high end video magazines. You owe to yourself to find a dealer that displays the set BEFORE you buy any HDTV!!

Weakness:

When viewing analog signals, although the picture is smoother than an anolog set since the scan lines are almost invisible, I would say the picture looks somewhat less sharp.

If you are truly into HDTV and have the room and $$ then you absolutely MUST see this set before buying any HDTV! Buying a direct view set for High Definition is a definite compromise due to the small screen size of direct view tubes. High definition cries out for a large screen. No matter what your previous opinion of Rear Projection TVs was, you have to see this set. It will change your viewpoint just as it did mine.
