Strength:

Clarity of picture on detailed (DVD) images; calibrates to a spectacular image

Weakness:

No direct switching between inputs; Auto-detecting of anamorphic sources would be nice.

This is a great set, if you can still find them on the market. With a MSRP over $7000, I found mind for less than $4000 and they may still be around at nearly that price; but mine was a closeout to clear room for the newer (TW65X81, TW56X81) sets. So far I haven't heard anything about the new sets that makes me regret getting this one. Even my non-discriminating wife occasionally has praise for this set.

If this set had direct switching between inputs, I would gladly grant it 5 stars.

Strength:

Great picture before calibration - Wonderful after calibration

Weakness:

Inability to switch directly to any input - must cycle through five inputs to get back to where you started

Toshiba really pulled out all the stops when they built this set. Picture quality is excellent, sound system is good but them most folks with this set have a hometheater sound system anyway. Plenty of inputs/outputs. After setup with a Video Essentials calibration DVD is looked wonderful. Next step is to bring in an ISF calibration person to really tweak the set.

I paid $3,900 delivered and it was worth every penny! All Good!

Strength:

super sharp picture,great color decoder,built-in line doubler,1600 L.O.R.!!!

Weakness:

no horizontal and vertical sync inputs like the Mits HD!!

This tv has outdone the Mitsubishi in terms of resolution on dvd material. I have never seen so much detail and clarity. In normal analog sources such as a outdoor attenna, the Toshiba looked so much sharper than the Mits. The first thing I noticed when I popped in a dvd was the degree of brightness. The combination of a supersharp, very bright picture had me thinking The Toshiba was actually a 65 inch TUBE. I bought this brand new from the mentioned website above. There service and delivery was excellent.

Strength:

Nice big screen. Awesome Picture

Weakness:

I will have to go along with everyone else that swithing between imput can be a real pain in the you know what

I will say I too was upset when the new model TW65H81 came out. I had my TW65H80 on order for less than $3800 when the new one was released, but after reading reviews on it I'm glad I waited for the TW65H80. The picture is great. This is truly better than going to a movie theater. Hooked to my JVC 1028 A/V Receiver with Alantic Technology speaker system and the Toshiba 3109 DVD player. Also the tv signal is supplied by a Big C-Band Dish, 4DTV receiver. What an experience. More than worth the money.

I will have to lower the overall rating on this model to a 4, I would go to 4.5 or something, but i can't give it a 5 cause of the imput source changing.

Strength:

Incredible picture when tuned properly

Weakness:

No switching directly between video sources

If you're looking for a great value in a 65" TV, look no further. I thought it looked great when I got it and hooked it up to a Sony DVD player. Recently, I got my Toshiba SD5109 DVD player with progressive scan, and the quality will just floor you. The TV does a fine job with progressive scan sources, as well as S-vid and composite sources. Unfortunatly, when you're dealing with large screens, NTSC and S-vid look well.. out of date :)

Of course, if you are considering dropping a large chunk of cash into a nice TV such as this one, it is extremely important that you tune the TV set with something akin to "Video Essentials", and use high quality (but not neccesarily top of the line) video cabling.

Compared this set to several others. It seems to have the best Line Doubler, Gray Scale, Color Decoding and overall picture quality of the ones I looked at.
I looked at the Mits 65", Mits 50803, Elite Pro700HD, Elite Pro200, and several others.

This is one of the few RPTVs out today that you can get very close to (within 1 1/2 tims the screen size) and the picture still looks excellent with No Scan Lines. Great Deal. I give it a 5 for performance and value.
