Strength:

Clarity and the ability to select most of the aspect ratios with any source. Not so with Sony or Mitsubishi, which limit you to only one or two. Unacceptable.

Weakness:

Only 9 point convergence. Need to have a greater number of points. I can see red sticking out on white lettering even though I have converged the see meticulously. I will be having a technician out to do these service adjustments. I may even hire an ISF certified tech. Also, there are tweak sites on line for the strong of heart that can suggest improvements you can do. BE CAREFUL, however. Warrenty and all. The number of inputs is O.K., but it could use more.

Before selecting my Toshiba 57HDX82,I was able to have the use of a Mitsubishi WS55511 55" RP, a Samsung HLM507W 50" DLP RP, and a Pioneer PRO-530HD 53" RP. The Toshiba is by far the least expensive and the most value of them all. It has a much better upconverter than Mitsubishi, Hitachi or Sony and is at least as good as the Pioneer or the Samsung. To my eye, it has a sharper image than the Pioneer. (Which I found to be a little soft in the area of focus with an HD picture in every in installation I have seen.) I am using a DENON 2800II DVD player in progressive scan and find the video to be quite good. It cannot be the equal of HD, but it is very good. HD is excellent, however. I will be getting my Dish Network satellite equipment soon and look forward to seeing what the picture looks like on this T.V. To the gentleman who said his shows the problems with satellite compression, I would assume that he didn't get a satellite receiver with progressive scan componant output. It should look as good as his DVDs do. It is the same compression method, MPEG2. I did and it costs a bit of money, but when you paid $2000 for a T.V., what's $600 more for the componant satellite receiver in the long run when it can render the best possible picture.

Strength:

Crisp picture, Real white color. No visible distortion. Illuminated remote a definite plus. NOTE THAT THE PRICE IS IN CANADIAN $

Weakness:

None so far

Excellent TV with great colour and no visible distortion. Whites are wither than average HDT I've seen. Remote is illuminated and can be easily programmed to action DVD, VCR and satellite. Easy on screen instruction facilitate utilisation even by neophite. TV came with a Panasonic progessive scan DVD wich provides great clarity. Paired with a panasonic surround system we truly enjoy our TV and have had even better results tnan what we anticipated. During shopping I had the opportunity to compare with Sony and Hitachi and personnaly found the image quality to be far crisper with Toshiba and at a much cheaper price.

Strength:

Great picture and color. Menus easy to use. Good remote

Weakness:

none

Bought the Toshiba 57HDX82 to replace a 10 year old Mitubishi 60 inch 4:3. I could not be happier. I was worried about watching 4:3 broadcasts as this would only give a 46" diagonal picture in natural mode. I tried 4:3 material using the Theater 1 stretch mode and I have to really look to see any distortion. I bought an inexpensive DVD player with Progressive output to see what a high def picture would look like. It is stunning. I love this TV.

Great picture and color. Plenty of inputs. I'm very pleased with the stretch modes. A screen this large will show you how badly the video compression used by cable and satellite companies affect picture quality, but DVDs are beautiful.
