When we first bought this television it worked great. It had a beautiful picture. We bought this televsion because we felt the picture quality was far greater than it's competition. The price was far greater also. At that time we felt that Sony was far superior quality compaired to others. We are now experiencing a problem with a green color going from the bottom of the scren towards the top and spreading out to the sides. We have replaced the light hoping this was the problem at a price of 235.00. This didn't take care of the problem. Since it is a new light it has intensified the problem because this bulb is brighter and intensifies how you see the problem. I have been told that it is probably an optical block and that I should call Sony because they know they had this problem. I called Sony today and they have informed me that they have no record of any problems with this and that we would have to pay for this repair if we didn't have an extended warranty. I have been told that the part that needs replaced is 1000.00 and then about 200.00 in labor. Sony has conveyed that they really don't care and when I told them we have been told that Sony is aware of the problem I was basically in a round about way told "Too bad, too sad!" I told them I would pursue this on a higher level. I have alos told them I will make others aware and advise them not to buy Sony products. Seems as though sony now longer cares about quality along with the rest of the manufacturing and service industry. Shame on you Sony. I encourage anyone else with the same problem to please come forward. I know I will never buy a Sony product again.

I have had this TV for 3 years and have been satisfied up intil 2 months ago. I started seeing a yellowish/green halo around the center of the picture. I contacted sony and they said it was probably the projection lamp and that I should contact my sony service guy. They gave me a number to call and when I did I was told that it was not the lamp but was the opticle block. He said he see's them ofter and it would cost $700 to fix. Thats over a 1/3 of what I paid. I called Sony back and ask if they could help and was told, "sorry, for the bad luck" no help from them. That will be my last Sony. The service guy also told me the projection lamps go out every year or so at the cost of $200. Wish I kenw this before I bought. Oh, well live and learn. No more Sony's for me.

Strength:

- Nice colors and bright pictures.
- HD Very clear and vivid
- SD broadcasts look as good as it would look on a SDTV.
- DVD (480p) very clear
- lightwheight / thin (for a RPTV)
- plenty inputs / easy access.
- HDMI input
- VGA input

Weakness:

- blacks not a black as some other techs. (ie, plazma, DLP)
- eventual bulb replacment.
- No picture options (movie, TV, Vivid ext...)
- Only 1 HDMI input.
- Some fan noise.
- "screen door effect" if sitting closer than 5ft or so.

Choice between this one and the 50 inch model. This one fit in my living room. If you have the room get the 50. HD looks very clean and SD (480i) looks as good as it would look on a SD TV (wich is a complement for a HDTV). Looses picture clarity top to bottom if you stand over it but stays fairly clear left to right (unlike CRTRP). Have a X box 360 and the HD here looks crystal clear as well. Overall it is a great TV for a good price. Blacks not as deep as Plazma or DLP but picture is much brighter a vivid.

Customer Service

Very Good. Got a letter stating Sony had found a problem with the power supply turning off on its own due to a softwere issue. Sent tech. over to update softwhere within a few days. I never had saw the problem but the fact that Sony did know about it and fixed it BEFORE it became a problem was refeshing.

Strength:

Price-Picture-Style

Weakness:

Would like at least one more H.D.M.I. input

Having used this T.V. for over a year now ,I could not be more pleased. H.D.
picture is stunning as is progressive scan dvd. All the reservations I had about
getting a projection set have been put to rest with this .l.c.d format. Highly
suggest geting the matching stand as really adds to the look.

Customer Service

Sony e-mailed me to set up free software update as some sets were having problems even thou mine had not

Strength:

Picture, Cost, Sony Quality

Weakness:

Takes a minute or so to warm up....

This TV was the best picture for the screen size and the amount of money spent. HD looks incredible. Non-HD digital cable is very good. DVD via HDMI is amazing. Just go out and buy it!
