RCA MM52100 Rear Projection

DESCRIPTION

When combined with the RCA DTC100 Set Top Box, RCA Digital Resolution TVs can give you the clarity of an HDTV-quality picture. That's because the monitor gives you the same pixel resolution inch for inch as with an HDTV picture. RCA Digital Resolution TVs are also the ideal display for your computer, VCR, standard TV broadcasts, digital video cameras, video games and DVD player- and they can all be connected at the same time.

Strength:

Picture, Connects, Picture, easy to use menu, Picture, matte screen, PICTURE.

Weakness:

Remote, owners manual, remote...did I say the remote is trash? I'll sell it cheap

This monitor was purchased as an "open box" display, so that reflects in the price, but still got warrantee, and liberal return policy just in case. In typical male fashion, the wife and I agreed a 40 inch would be plenty large to replace our 10 yr old 27" cabinet TV...Thats what she gets for not going with me hehe (The old 27" cabinet makes a BEAUTIFUL component for my a/v receiver, dvd player and vcr...Just remove tube, add shelves to inside, and install tinted glass doors on front) Anyways, back to the Monitor...Did I say the picture was EXCELLENT? The more bandwidth you feed it, the more it comes alive! VHF/UHF channels via antenna are more than adequate for a rear-view. As a matter of fact, after all the negatives I've read about VHF/UHF, cable reception in other reviews on here, and after watching display big screen tv's on cable, I wasn't expecting much, but I'm impressed. Resolution is probably close to my old tube TV.
I immediately went on the market for an RCA DTC100 HDTV satellite box. Went to the local satellite sales store here, and guess what they were using to show off the box...An RCA MM52110 that had me totally mesmerized with the resolution. I did my homework before the purchase, and I have to be honest, all the HDTV's that were fed the HI-Res signal were really showing off their resolution, so this TV at that price was a no-brainer.
Considering the DTC100 is approximately $500.00, If I did it over again, the only thing I would do is compare the RCA RPTV's with the DTC100 receiver built in, and see if the added cost would justify the higher price.
My son has been watching our dvd collection all over again, and we've been seeing details on the larger screen that were overlooked on the old 27" boat anchor. Even the wife, who hates technology, loves the detail that can be seen now.
Enough of this, I'm gonna go watch a movie =)
Happy trails ya'll.

Strength:

Picture...price...picture...inputs...no inferior line doubler..brightness...good,solid viewing angle...etc.

Weakness:

no line doubler (well better to have none than a cheap one )

I actually have the MM52110, some minor upgrades, but basically the same thing. I have checked every possible place on pricing, comparisons, etc....and you know what I found out, that most HDTV's look good...including this one.
I saw the Sony, pioneer, Hitachi, Toshiba, Mitsubishi and the RCA all lined up in a row in several stores, and they all looked great. Very minute differences...side by side that is...so how could you tell these minute differences when you got it home ???? You could not. My conclusion is based on viewing in HD format...all looked good. Now I do have to admit in
regular NTSC format the sony looked best...but once again
it was not "mind blowing"....and the price being $500 more made the decision easier. After reading the reviews and now seeing this unit in my house, I am very pleased with this purchase. When you get the DTC 100 it have a built in line doubler (mediocre doubler) but acceptible. And as with any Big screen tv, you will want a clean picture source...such as directv or dish network (some type of sattelite signal).
cable typically delivers a "poor" quality signal, and everything is magnified on the big screen. Go to the store and check for yourself...in high def. they all look good....Yes Sony "nuts" the RCA looked just as good in HD.
The thing that looks absolutely incredible are computer animated dvd's or shows...such as toy story, dinosaur, etc.
well good luck in your searching and hope this helped you a little more. Also, check out I-scan dvdo pro line doublers
for this system...also, invest in a good progressive scan dvd player....must be "progressive"...no ugly lines on the screen using progressive scan.

Strength:

Picture, LOTS of inputs, computer monitor ready, HDTV ready, wide viewing angle, Price, PICTURE!!

Weakness:

Need to cycle through inputs-ARRRGH! Remote is not great. no line doulber (480p)

The picture is fantasic. Have only had the TV for 2 weeks now but have not experienced any problems yet (except for the fact that I am glued to my couch).

Lots of inputs makes setting up your home theater a breeze. When I first fired it up and popped in my Gladiator DVD I has blown away (I don't think i blinked the whole movie!). My digital cable signal looks crystal clear, and even my regular panasonic VCR. Games on my PC have never looked better.
On screen menus are intuitive and it is easy to adjust the picture for the particular input you are using. These settings can then be saved to memory for each input type.

I was planning on buying a DVDO line doulbler but the picture is so good I don't think I need it. (well maybe next year...hehe)

I can harldy wait to try a 1080i signal.

Don't bother on spending a couple extra grand for a widescreen.

This box rocks!!!
