RCA 52 Digital High Resolution Television MM52110 Rear Projection

DESCRIPTION

Turn on, tune in... and watch your tongue drop out. When combined with the RCA DTC100 Set Top Box, RCA Digital Resolution TVs can give you the clarity of an HDTV-quality picture. That's because the monitor gives you the same pixel resolution inch for inch as with an HDTV picture. RCA Digital Resolution TVs are also the ideal display for your computer, VCR, standard TV broadcasts, digital video cameras, video games, and DVD player; and they can all be connected at the same time.

Weakness:

One Set of Component Video Inputs The Remote Sucks (get a Universal) No HDMI input

I have had this TV for over 3 years. I bought it when HDTV was first coming out. The picture is very good, the sound sucks, but when you get a big screen TV your supposed to have surround sound anyway. Which is why I really could care less about the sound. The remote control is also pretty crappy. However, if you are serious about HT (home theatre) then just get a nice universal. I use a touchscreen sony remote that works GREAT. However, problem with this set as the years pass is that I have more and more component video items and there is only ONE set of inputs on the tv!! The PS2, the Dish Network HD box, and the DVD player all use component inputs and this set can't take 'em. The only fix for the problem is to purchase a reciever with the component video switching capability (yamaha RX-V2500 fixes this without a problem). As far as service calls, I had one when I first bought the TV. I had a whistling sound every time I turned on the TV. It was very high pitched and annoying. They took the TV in for repair (which was NO problem at all!) and when it came back no more whistle. Other than that minor deal I have had no problem in the past 3 years.

Great Picture Great Price Ton's of inputs

Weakness:

No remote code for my TEAC DTS

I got this TV at BJ's Warehouse for $1399.00. It was priced about $500.00 below any other 50+ inch Digital HDTV ready television I saw. I spent a month visiting stores and checking the Sunday ad's looking for a deal. I got this thing home and hooked it up and I was just blown away with the picture. I read reviews over the net, and saw that everyone was real happy with the picture. But a few people had service related problems with the set. So before I purchased it, I called three local repair shops that did warrantee work for RCA. All of them told me that RCA (Thompson Electronics) stood behind their products and that parts were readily available. They all told me that they had no more problems with the RCA projections that they did any other brand. I am just overwhelmed with the quality of the picture and I don't even have the HDTV converter yet (Comcast installing for free in two weeks). Great features, LOADED with inputs, but no remote code for my Teac DTS receiver.

Strength:

Connectivity to other components Picture Quality Sound Quality Easy to Setup

Weakness:

No optical audio outputs

Great picture quality, and sound. Plenty of hookups for outside components. Other than a small rough patch with a manufacturing defect in the optics when it was first unboxed the TV has been great. Awesome watching Direct TV, and great watching off air broadcasts . Watched Super Bowl, and Stanley Cup playoffs and finals on it felt like you were part of the action. I looked at around 6 HDTVs while shopping and overall for the money this offered the best picture, for money.

Weakness:

Service stinks and spare parts take forever.

Bought the set in late october. Notice annoying red glare in lower right corner after about 1 month. Serviceman got replacing red gun in about two weeks and replaced. Replaced red gun was defective. Now telling me three months to get a new red gun. No luck with RCA service. Very disapointed. Stay away from this product.

Strength:

really good picture, very clear on dvd and vhs, connectivity to pc is excellent

Weakness:

reliability? currently no power....just went down 2 weeks ago, still waiting for serviceman

I was really enjoying this product when suddenly, there was no power at all. I should have checked on RCA reliability ratings before I bought this. There is something to say about excellent features and a outstanding picture if you can't use the set. It has been two weeks now and I am waiting for a serviceman to come in.

If this will continue, will most likely trade it in for a more reliable brand such as Philips or Panasonic.

Anyway, if you have any comments pls I welcome them.

Strength:

good picture

Weakness:

power supply, reliability

Well, folks just a follow up....the serviceman came and worked on it for 3 hours and could not get it to work.
It seems that RCA has a problem sending their authorized service centers the needed parts. Unlike Sony, Panasonic or Philips, circuit boards are sent to the techs immediately to expedite repair.

Well, despite the excellent picture, it is going back tomorrow!!! Will have to pick another brand!!!

Back to the review process! Thank you RCA!!!

Strength:

The picture is worth a 1000 words. Watch Shrek and you will really see the details pop. Connectivity is another huge plus. I have this connected to my Direct TV/Tivo reciever, my Progressive scan RCA p6000 DVD player, my RCA VCR, Sony Digital cam corder & my Computer. It makes a for a huge moniter for playing the new wolfenstein.

Weakness:

Remote isn't anything extrodinary. They haven't made any changes to it since I bought my first RCA tv back in 1995. All RCA remotes look alike.

I wish the crappy remote would control my Technics reciever.

Other than the remote I can't complain about the TV. Oh, one thing. I wish it had a warranty clock. Like my other RCA has. It tells me how many hours the tv has been in use. Maybe does record it but it could be hidden in the service menu. I wish I knew the service menu code.

This TV is awsome. I use it to hook up all my componants at once, including Direct-tv, Progressive scan DVD & my PC. The picture is outstanding. Just pop in Shrek or Terminator 2 and you will truely see the outstanding graphics. I really can't complain about this thing at all. The only complaint I have is the remote is ordinary at best. But who spends this kind of money to use the crappy remote. Most of Digital people will toss this into the drawer and buy a Pronto remote or something that will control everything.
