ok i have this proscan Ps 80690 since 1995 but this tv was use only about 100 times if even, during that time and just 2 hours at a time for the movie duration. has been not working for about 2 years now. i am thinking of fixing it and have been looking for some problems like mine. my problem is that when turning on the power i only get a flash of light every 1 second apart

TV GOES DEAD EVERY 2 YEARS TOU CAN MARK IT ON YOUR CALENDAR.

SINCE I PURCHASED THIS PROSCAN/RCA MODEL PS80690 THE DC BLOCK OR POWER SUPPLY UNIT HAS NEEDED REPLACEMENT 3 TIMES AT ACOST OF IOOO.OO PER REPAIR. RCA WHICH IS OWNED BY THOMSON MULTIMEDIA JUST GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND NOT WILLING TO HELP IN ANY MANNER.I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT RCA PROSCAN JUST SETTLED A CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR 100 MILLION DOLLARS TO REPAIR DEFECTIVE ITEMS ON TV SOLD BY THEM I HIGHLY RECOMEND THAT NOBODY PURCHASE A RCA GE PROSCAN OR ZENNITH ELECTRONIC PRODUCT DO YOURSELF A FAVOR BUY SONY.

Strength:

1000 lines of horizontal resolution, bright picture, highly configurable sound options for use with or without my amps and pre-amps, S-Video, S-Video, S-Video. Have used this TV since it became available and have had zero problems.

Weakness:

Cabinet portability...

This has been a great TV over all. The only trouble I had was damaging the screen during a move. It was worth the replacement cost and I'm still using it. While it's not as crisp as some of the newer projection units I've used, it's BIGGER.

This awesome rear projection TV are wonderful. It sells lesser than 2 years ago. You better to have a screen protector, they will protect the screen, and also make better contract.
Anyone know that is it upgradable to HDTV?

I am a college student, so i see big screens left and right in lounges and lobbies. My frat's proscan is by far the most impressive. of course, its size lends to this fact, however the on axis picture is great. the sound is also impressive. the off-axis picture is however a little dark, but every rear projection tv i have seen features this problem. (we also got a great price ~$2500)
