Remote, operator's manual

Found this T.V. a few months ago on Tweeter's website under it's "Clearance Items" (discontinued - brand new in box) Could not beleive I could get a 61" for this kind of price. Could not find too many reviews on it, but for this price I took the chance.

The picture is grainier than my old Mitsubishi, but improves the farther away you are (my living room is 30 ft long, so no problem). The two-tuner PIP is a nice feature and the S-video and RCA inputs are more than adequate. The owner's manual is barely adequate and will leave you guessing. It comes with a fancy universal remote that is even lighted, but I find that it has no range and cuts out at about 20 feet, so I opted to go with a different universal remote. There is alot of glare from the protective sheild, so I need to keep the lights off and use mainly at night, but I suppose this is to be expected. The speakers w/spatializer sound are actually pretty nice, but I have it hooked into my HT with those turned off. If you don't have an AV receiver, it has additional hookups for sub and surround speakers. I have not really had time to play with the picture yet, but it does have auto-convergance, digital comb filter, etc.

So far, I am completley satisfied w/my purchase. For any of you saving up for an HDTV ready or waiting for the prices to come down on them, FORGET ABOUT IT and grab one of these or another bargain priced, discontinued, non-HDTV. This thing has 850 lines of horizontal resolution, which will be more than enough to serve your craving for high definition in the next ten years. While 1080i may become reality sooner than that, you will undoubtedly have some sort of in-between compromise on a set top converter by then (i.e. 450, 750,?), which will get you close enough. Save your money for an electric car!!

Strength:

Size 61" once you spoilled yourself, there is no returning

Weakness:

Protective screen is only removable by panasonic technician

I really enjoy this big Screen, it is by far my favorite toy in the house. I just added a set of polk 800i and a polk 650 sub. My wife thinks I am nuts but boys will have their toys. I reccommend this television, I would probably buy a 16:9 if I could do it again.
