Strength:

Great Picture, does not lock up in 480p mode like most sets.

Weakness:

None.

This is a great set at a very attractive price. Plus the fact that Mitsubishi is the only manufacturer to guarantee Firewire upgradability makes this set obsolete proof. The Mits also had the best picture in the store - while the Sony HDTVs looked like crap.

Strength:

Compact size, with stand doesn't take up my whole room, beautiful picture, plenty of I/O capability

Weakness:

Built-in speakers are just OK, would have preferred black casing instead of charcoal grey color (what a nitpicker, eh?) and the remote doesn't have a code for my AV receiver - but it handles all my other components.

First, thanks to all you reviewers! You helped me make a more informed buying decision. So, I'll return the favor, although this may run on for a bit...

I've had this set for almost a month, and I'm ecstatic. The picture with standard cable tv is better than almost all >40" projectors I've seen, and it will upsample your standard 480i signal to either 480p or 960i with the built-in line doubler. With a progressive scan DVD it's AWESOME! I've stil gotta save up a couple hundred bucks to pop for the HDTV receiver, but that's the next item on my list.

I actually paid the list price of $2199, but they threw in the stand (which normally goes for a couple hundred bucks) so I'd say it was a decent, but not great deal. They delivered and set up my set for free, too. You can buy these TVs online for $1799 or so, but if you want the stand it's gonna run about $250, and another $250 or so to have it shipped. The guys at Andersons TV were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful - escpecially since I needed some technical education - so I felt that they earned my business. They're local to the San Francisco bay area, so if you live here, you should check them out.

A couple things that I've been surprised with:

First, I was under the impression that all my DVDs would not display the black letterbox bars once I got my widescreen TV - but that's not entirely true. Many DVDs are in a 2.35:1 theatrical ratio, which is wider than 16:9, and still leaves bars (although they're thinner) top/bottom on the screen. The "Expand" mode works pretty well to get rid of the bars, but it does crop a little off the sides.

Secondly, I have a hard time watching standard television shows in the "stretched" mode. The TV has 5 display modes built-in: Standard, Expand, Zoom, Stretched and Narrow. They all have their intended usage, but none really fit the bill for general broadcast TV viewing - hey, Jennifer Aniston's head is not supposed to be THAT wide... The Narrow mode is intended for 4:3 broadcasts, but it adds grey bars to the sides of the image, and you're not supposed to view in that mode for more than 15% of the time.

However, what I've found is that using the PIP/POP feature to shrink the main signal horizontally and add three smaller POPs on the right side makes the main signal's aspect ratio look just right! Plus, it lets me "channel surf" while the wife's watching her stuff. Definitely a win/win.

One other nice little feature that I didn't expect is the ability to turn on Closed Captioning when you mute the sound. Maybe that's a common feature, but my older set didn't do that. Very nice when somebody's vacuuming or on the phone.

Since I had a limited space to put the TV, 46" was about as big as I could go. Having the stand underneath is sweet, as larger sets will require a separate rack or cabinet for your other components.

Overall, I'm very VERY happy with this unit, and would heartily recommend it to anyone. If you have any questions before you buy, feel free to email me and I'll give you the straight scoop about this set.

Strength:

Picture quality(especially with DVD)Size, Audio

Weakness:

analog signals could be better, depth of unit(almost 28")

For $2000 it's hard to beat. I'm considering it as my
intrum set, until Satellite and the broadcast industry
can figure it out. Once 90% of everything is HD, then
I'd be willing to spend some serious money.

I have to say the WT-46809 has exceeded my expectations for a theaterwide TV. Great picture and sound!Having the components... Receiver...DVD player under the set really helps free up wall space.....
The price of this set should come down when HDTV becomes more available on networks.
Go out and buy one!!!!

Strength:

The picture quality is excellent. This is especially so when I replaced the stock wires with Monster Cable S-Video 3 for the cable box and Monster Component cable for the DVD player. It's really cool that there are so many inputs. This saved me some money without have to route everything to the receiver first.

You may ask how I got this TV for $1,600. I actually purchased a whole package from the Goodguys. Everything came out to about $5,000 including tax. The package came
with:
1. Denon Receiver
2. Panasonic Progressive Scan DVD Player
3. Mitsubishi WT-46809
4. $400 worth of various Monster Cables
5. Complete Klipsch Surround sound speaker packaer w/ 12" 440 watt sub.
6. Stands for rear surround speakers & TV
7. 5 year in-house TV service & warranty Plan.

All this adds up to an incredible package.

I just recently purchased this set as a replacement for my 46807 that had some problems with the convergence.

The 46809 is a great set that puts out a great picture even with cable tv.

Once I get more use out of it, and really put it through it's paces......I will post a follow-up.
