cant believe this ,two in one day.Moe didnt get one fact correct in his review,in actual fact read his review and then reverse everything he said,it does have the correct widescreen raster for hdtv,it does display anamorphic dvd in there correct format,it is a better tv then the sony s10 and it is the best 4.3 hdtv ready set out there,Moe must be related to the other guy thats all i can say.He didnt even bother to give it a rating that says it all.

Strength:

picture from all scources, number of inputs, widescreen mode, and easy setup, and again picture, picture, picture.

Weakness:

maybe the width of cabinet.

well it couldnt last, this TV was actually the number rated TV on this review site until the last review came in,and wouldnt you know it the guy bases his review on the strength of his cable signal. Now it is no coincidence that people complain about a crap picture on their TV's when using cable ,thats because on the whole cable is and can be crap, why are people leaving cable and getting DSS in droves.Listen to this,a guy at the local tweeter's told me that the sony rep went nuts back in april when their new 53" hdtv ready set the 53s10 was display next to this bad boy,he insisted that it be moved away such was the difference in picture quality. And thats what this Tv is about - quality, everything about it stands out, picture ,ease of use, number of inputs, settings for each input,it actually could and should be the last TV you ever buy until you decide that the time is right to go widescreen .Mitsubshi only make projection TV's ,and thats why you should not even consider any other brand of RPTV.Trust me the previous reviewer could have been watching a 19' TV and his picture would still have been terrible, if he had put some time and effort into adjusting his set correctly, changing or upgrading his cable (rg6) springs to mind,or getting DSS then i might have taken his review seriously, but as it stands this is the best 4.3 hdtv set out there and you dont need a hdtv signal to see that.

Strength:

Good colors, excellent conectivities

Weakness:

Too reddish, shin tone looks sun burned, Too much digital artifacts as a result of too much enhancements, NO true 16x9 mode

This is a very good set as far as 4:3 format is concerned. Is it the best 4:3 for the price? of course not. I had the set for some time, I worked on it, calibrated it and I thought I write the review to pass on the info to those who are interested. Overall, this set provides you a good picture, excellent connectivity (lots of inputs in the back & one up front), and it is almost HDTV compatible. Well, it is and it is not. This set lacks raster vertical comparison, so there never be a true 16x9 mode as the HD is 16X9. Therefore, those who buy the set should buy it for analog reception only. Also, it is not capable of anamorphic 16x9 for DVD playback. As far as the picture is concerned, I witnessed some major flaws (videophile nitpicking!!) with the set. First, out of the box, image looked somewhat out of focus (smeared), the red was really pushed as well as blue. See a lot of TV's are set at the factory to look bright, because that is where most people compare sets (the brightest and most colorfull set is not always the better one.) Whites are set whiter than white, reds are redder than it should be and brightness is out of the linear range of the CRT. Any how, after gray scale adjustment, the set started to look normal (or, picture looked natural), but there were too much red and corners looked soft and smeared ( a problem with inexpensive lenses.) People with a taste of over saturated colors and vividly sharp (unnaturally sharp) will like this set.
A better alternative is the Sony HS10 series with a wonderfully convincing image quality as well as the Sony quality built. It would serve those who have a taste for natural and accurate picture. Most importantly, the Sony will do raster compression for proper 16x9 format Ionly available on very expensive front projection units.) The Sound & Vision called the Sony the best set under $10,000 in their current issue. Or, get the Mits. WS-55805 which is a wide screen model. But it is by far a better set.

So, next time when you want to buy a TV set, do not base your choice on floor model comparison over the chain dealership. It is a flat out wrong way of choosing a TV set.

It is unfortunate that people buy a product and feel it is the best. Then, they even insult others who provide some facts to public who want to make better choices. Astronauts do not talk and behave the way an average guy does. I do not work for Sony. Read my review on Mits WS-55805 and Sony 61HS10. I work on rear project TV's for clients.
For those who interested to get HD ready 4:3 set should do their home work in addition to this site. As a few owners seem to have hard time to read negative comments about their toys. As far as the Sony HS10 vs. Mits vs-xx805 & vs-xx807 series, get a copy of Perfect Vision #31 or reviews on XBR300 series (essentially the same as HS10, except cabinet and audio) to see what experts say about the Sony set.
I believe, in all honesty, that the Sony HS10 will provide a much more realistic (better color decoder) colors, much smoother particularly off DDS and cable and a 3D like image.
Also, Sony factory gray scale factory set up is a lot closer to 6500 K in NTSC setting than the Mits. Therefore, if you do not opt for ISF calibration, you will be less harmed. Mits set their sets really over saturated and over driven so they look really shining on the show room floor against others. All TV's should be set according to Imaging Science Foundation's guide line for proper color reproduction.

Happy HDTV watching.

moe its obvious to me and others that you prefer the sony s10s,so bringing down the average for this set down by responding to my comments is not what this forum is for,my e-mail address is here if you want to respond to me.I defended this TV for one and only reason your original review was just plain wrong, because if you really owned this set there is not a snowballs chance in hell that you could prefer the sony,DRC is far inferior to the mits line doubler,i have eyes and i have heard it even said that the DRC in the s10 is inferior to there SBX top of the line TV,the s10 is a cheap version of that set and in now way can be used in comparison to any mitsubishi hdtv ready set.So moe why dont you e-mail me if you want to respond and stop dragging the avarage down on this TV.You never owned it so put your review of the sony under S for sony
