Strength:

Picture brightness, Ease of set-up and easy to use remote.

Weakness:

Defective CRT, Sound quality.

Overall I was very impressed with the picture brightness and clarity. However after setting up the unit at home, I noticed a translucent yellow spot on the left lower corner of the picture. After having this checked it was determind to be a manufacuring flaw in the blue lens (CRT). It was explained to me that when the lens was made it was marked with a marker and that mark was sealed into the lens assembly. It's been a month and I am still waiting on the replacement CRT since there is a nationwide back order on this part. Other than the spot, the pictur is great especially on satellite.

Strength:

Easy to use remote-not too cluttered with useless buttons. Great picture-exceptional brightness and clarity. Easy adjust aspect ratio from remote. Magic focus--easy routine convergence adjustment.

Weakness:

Audio is average, although it can be improved by adjusting settings.

After much research, I settled on the Hitachi 43 and am very happy with my decision. The television produces a fabulous picture (with satellite feed), and DVD's are outstanding. Scan-lines are virtually non-existant. The brightness on this tv is unbelieveable. Having said that, I recommend turning the brightness and contrast down as soon as you take it out of the box in the interest of protecting your screen. I had the the brightness at about 38% and was still pleased with the picture--a testament to how bright the picture is. I thought about going with the Sony 43 , but the picture on the Hitachi was better after many side by side comparisons, and there is really no comparing to the Hitachi for picture brightness. Additionally, I was told (and could not confirm otherwise) that the Sony does not aspect adjustment, while the Hitachi has 5 aspect ratio adjustments accessible from the remote. This is a key feature that is important to any projection television. The Sony colours looked off on every television that I viewed at several different dealers, while the Hitachi, Toshiba and others were consistently good. This is not a slam Sony review--I have many of their products and have been very happy with them. I simply think the Hitachi 43 is a superior product. Enjoy the awesome picture!

Strength:

Super bright and clear picture after adj with contrast, brightness, color

Weakness:

Only thing I can think of is a built-in HD directv decoder...that would be perfect.

Man I totally agree with mex about this tv rocks. The picture is awesome esp dvd's. My previous set was a calibrated toshiba 16x9 40" so I was very surprised that the hitachi was so clear and vibrant. Out of the box it was not a pretty site but you have to make some avia or video ess adjustments with the levels and make sure to change the picture mode to MOVIE setting...I think it's default to sports and it looks really bad with directv. Hope this helps you hitachi users cause the the 1st couple days takes some breaking in. Mine is the 43FWX20B with that 5 lens technology which I don't know much about but I can tell you the picture is just so bright and clear for a projection set. I cannot be more thrilled. Next step is hdtv this sat appt with directv...and that should be cherry on top. Got it for $1699 at circuit city.

Strength:

great picture

Weakness:

sound could be better

The picture on this television is awesome. The sound could use a little help, but overall this television rocks. It's kind of hard for me to compare this to another big screen because it's the first big screen I own. I love it. Good quality, good price.
