Strength:

You switch between dipole and bipole

Weakness:

Sounds no better than anything you already own

I couldnt wait to get these babies in the mail after I ordered them. But after getting them and hearing the dipole affect and seeing what all the hype was about, I was dissappointed in the peformance.I hear no noticable difference between my Center/surrounds IV, III, or these over glamorized surrounds. I mean really, these surrounds dont add anything to your listening experience that any other $100.00 surrounds dont. I tried every DVD I have trying to convince myself that they are worth the purchase. It's still early, so made alittle more tweaking here and there maybe , just maybe it can sound better.Even after tweaking the hell out of it with Sound and Visions Set-up DVD, I still dont see what the big fuss is for Dipoles.

Strength:

Great surround sound at a great price.

Weakness:

Theses were my second "refurbished" speakers from Cambridge Soundworks. As with the center channel speaker that I purchased these were in pristine new condition and they do exactly what they were built to do which is deliver excellent surround sound. I couldn''t be more pleased and I was struck by the weight of these little devils. They are built!

Strength:

Compact size, bipolar/dipolar switching, wall or stand mountable, 10 year warranty

Weakness:

May not be the best choice for a large room. Fiber speaker cones.

The sound quality of these compact speakers is EXCELLENT! They have produced GREAT sound effects on every DVD movie I have viewed to date. The Bipolar/Dipolar switching is also a nice touch. This feature positions the sound in a direct (for music) or dispersed (for movies) sound pattern. The speaker cabinets are solid and well made. I would recommend these speakers for a small to medium size room. A large room would benefit from the Surround 5.1's. I purchased these speakers on eBay for such a great price, I just couldn't justify the additional money for the 5.1's at the time. However, the 5.1 II's are currently selling for $149 and the 5.1's are only $50 more. If you have a large room the additional $50 would be well spent. Otherwise, you definitely won't go wrong with these great little speakers. You will be very impressed with the great effects from such a small cabinet. You should also check eBay because you will fine some good pricing on both models.
Enjoy your audio/video experience. Home Theater, you have to LOVE it!

Strength:

small size, multi polar, good sound for the money, solid quality construction

cheezie spring clip connectors

got these on sale after auditioning them against the next model up the line at cambridge. these were on a bigger sale at the time and barely detectable difference in sound, if any in a short audition, so i went with these. the higher grade model is on sale now, for only $50 more, so i might have gone with that for that price, but it was not available when i bought. still i think these are nice for the money. certainly, there are much better surrounds out there, but maybe not for under $200. at that price, you probably won't regret these. i have them mounted on some rat-shak stands, to allow proper placement in my LR and the surround effect is nice, with all the other cambridge soundworks speaks in my relatively low priced set up (about $1200 worth of speakers hooked to an Integra DTR 7.1). i think my receiver outclasses my speaks, so i'll eventually upgrade. i'm rating these 4 stars, since there are no-doubt better out there, but the value/sound ratio is good...

ummm...

I love these little speakers. They create a great effect field it's almost hypnotizing. For those who say "these speakers are too small" or "try listening to music through them, they sound tiny" I say - Well, they are not made to play music and they are not made reproduce massive bass hits, that's what the mains and the sub are for. In my opinion surround speakers are supposed to create the effect fullnesss, they are supposed to blend into the rest of the sound and not show themselves until the soundtrack dictates they should. I have listened to tons of systems where the surrounds we're cranked up way to high, it's distracting...of course this is sound, and we all hear it different, this is just my opinion. Anyway, these babies are a great value, they blend seemlessly into my system.
