Strength:

Speakers produce good sound

Weakness:

Sub is horrible, the setup is horrible which makes the whole system sound bad. There is absoulutely no base coming out of the sub even when you put it up to the max, you cant feel anything. The base is supposedly to come out of the speakers :|, which is what the sale person told me after i complained about it . Why is there the sub for? Overall, i wouldnt recommend this system to anyone since its a BIG RIPOFF. EVen if you fall for the hype, first listen to both the LOWEST model of Polk which is RM6005, compare it to this Bose's highest model AM15-Series 2, i guarntee that any polk will outperform this.

The Bose AM15-Series 2 Model speaker was supposedly the best surround sound systme out there in every salemans mind. is it? NOT. The polk's lowest model outpeforms this bose's highest model.( I say Polk because thats the system i had before makign the decision of getting a new home theaatre speaker system which makes my statement unbiased since i have LISTENED to it) . The Speakers are not that bad, they sound good, but because of the design of this system, you have to put every single wire into the sub, from there, some weird wire outputs all the signal into the reciever. I tried finding a way to use some better quality wires instead of the cheap wires provided with the bose system, but was unable to find it. The sub is just horrible. Even when i cranked it up to the max on both the receiver and the sub itself, i still couldnt feel any bass. I would recommend buying the RM6005 from Polk Audio rather than this ripoff system from bose. I tried this system for a week just to make sure it wasnt any setting problems or anything related, but got it confirmed over the phone with bose's technicians that my setup was right. Bottom line, dont fall into the bose's publicity and hype. First listen to the sound of it then make your decision, unfortunately, my futureshop didnt have em hooked up so i was unable to listen to em prior to buying them.

Strength:

thge only plausable strenght of these speakers is that they are small. they sound terrible, and they do it in a small box. this isn't much of a feat, especially considering there are many other speaker companies that combine both small size and high quality sound in a small package, i.e. klipsch.

Weakness:

everything you can think of- cheap drivers (around 11-12 bucks per satillite driver) and cheap cabnits. a subwoofer, which is barely even so. a subwoofer should produce frequencies down to, and below the audible spectrum. this speaker doesn't compe close. to get real bass, you need bigger than 5 1/4 inch woofers (many computer speakers even have bigger than this).

if you are in any way curious in bose speakers, or have already purchased them, I strongly urge you to return them for something else. I know very much about the audio game, and I once too thought they were the cream of the crop. the truth is, they are nothing more than an overpriced bundle of plastic boxes. the "subwoofer" if you could call it that, doesn't extend well below 50 hz, and the satilite speakers have an alowance of TEN decibles in their selected frequency range. this isn't accepted by any other serious speaker manufacturer in existance, and rightfully so. a difference of this much means that certain frequencies will be played twice as loud as others, or twice as soft. the end result is a very un natural sound, which isn't the goal of any speaker system. Also, all of the "patented" technology bose claims to offer has been in production for decades. the folded wave guide was popularized with the Klipschorn in the 1940's, and their reflecting technology has been employed by many, much more reputable companies. you can have a much better system than these bose speakers for under 500 dollars, and it's a shame that so many people fall victim to their merciless advertising and corruption of information.

Strength:

It's incredible how stylish and easy they blend in with the surroundings. Small/compact but powerful enough to beat other speakers that are exponentially larger.

Weakness:

A bit pricey but well worth the money. Perform better than similarily priced gigantorlike speakers. If you buy from a bose store, they give you up to 18 months no interest financing. Only comes to about less than $100 per month. Doesn't dent your wallet or finances!

Now, the model I have is the new model that Bose came out with, not the old model that is pictured here. This system sounds incredible! I have an Onkyo receiver and dvd player hooked up to it. I also have a video karaoke connected to it. Some people complain that these speakers are not too good for everyday music/regular music, but I disagree. If your receiver is capable, just switch to stereo mode (either all cubes in stereo or turning the rear speakers off) and regular everyday music will sound great as well.

Strength:

The only multi-purpose speakers that can be used on videoke and make your voice sound to good to be true not to harsh on highs and not blur on low voice. Can survive a harsh environment of a microphone.

Weakness:

price

Its quite wondering why people who comment negative on BOSE still buy BOSE, after all this system is not quite good for a so called "Audiophile", but its quite pleasurable listening to it, well its a bit over priced, but why post it here, if your are truly a courageful technical bum, as I may speak, why don’t you e-mail BOSE to do the job right and give your true name, who knows they might even hire you as their engineer for your talent. Enough of this so called technical people, for me still this AM15 is quite good its the only speakers you can use for VIDEOKE. I dare you to put your so called high-end speakers into test, hook it up for Videoke and tell me if it can survive the massive "plik-plok" and "feedback" of microphone, I tell you I''ve seen high end tweeters destroyed by a microphone feedback, anyway why be technical, did you bought those speaker for your personal test lab or for listening pleasure? Its up to you, but for me its a multi-purpose speaker, its good on music, home theater & specially for Videoke and my friends starts coming back at my home, because their voice sound good with a combination of Yamaha RXV-995, AM15, Pioneer DVD 525 and a mic-mixer well its always the heart of the party and they envy me... SYSTEM: Sony Wega 34" Flat TV Yamaha RXV-995 Pioneer 525 DVD player Bose AM15 Lexus digital Mic mixer Shure SM58 Monster Optical cable Monster S-video Silver speaker cables Note: when playing a Videoke to sound good put it on Hall DSP of the Yamaha and set you parameters on the mic mixer (e.g. echo, reverb, intensity, delay etc.)

Strength:

Compact size, easy to install at home, clear sound, incredible bass, excellent for surround sound, good looking

Weakness:

not good for stero sound

Before I decided to buy the AM-15, I looked for professional reviews from different sources but comments are not consistent. So, I walked around and listened many different kind of speakers in different stores by myself. AM-15 is te best quality although it is the most expensive one. Most of the surround speaker sets are weak in power, especially the bass sound is very unnatural.

It is not difficult for me to install the speakers alone at home. The only thing you have to do is to prepare all cords for the surround speakers before installation. And then, I immediately try it by the movie - DVD Mission Impossible II. The sound is great and detail. When Tom was climbing up the rock, I can definitely and clearly listen the falling down of small rocks. Besides, the bass output of sub-woofer is incredibly strong and unidirectional. At the ending sessions of the movie, the explosion sound almost breaks my heart and my new apartment! The only problem of the woofer is the size is too long (58.5cm) for installation.

Afterwards, I try to use the speakers for listening ordinary music, it's perfectly match with my Onkyo receiver and the Dobly Prologic II system. It is unbelievably that my CDs can produce such impressing surround sound. Even though I turn up the volume, I still satisfy with every aspect of it. However, when I turn off the Dobly Prologic II system and try to listen music in stero format, I disappoint. No matter how excellent the surround speaker is, the quality of sound re-production is still limited by it's size. Thus, I highly recommend all of you to use the AM-15 for listening surround sound instead of stero sound as it matches perfectly with Dobly-Prologic II.

Although AM-15 is not good for stero sound, I still highly recommend this speaker system because of it's quality, appearance and size. This will be much better if Bose can reduce it's price by 15-20%!!!

My home theater system is as follow:
Onkyo Receiver TX-DS696
Onkyo DVD Player DV-S555
Bose surround speakers AM-15

Strength:

incredible detail for movies, very small, simple setup.

Weakness:

its not a strong contender for everyday music

I am a employee of a large audio retailer, the Bose Am15 set has far exceeded any other setup Ive had for home theater surround. I have them hooked to a older Onkyo 9-series reciever and the sound quality blows away the 3000.00 systems Ive had in the past.
However I would recommend a seperate pair of towers for music. I suggest Bose 901s..
