Strength:

Looks good on paper The woofer does seem to be nicely built

Weakness:

Power rating is off, I realize it's not stated rms, but I mean common now, where is it?

I demo-ed this legend sub at the local high-fi store in town. It does provide some hit and feel, but I'm afraid its nothin like desribed through-out this review. On paper this thing looks like the piece to have, I found it to be an entirely different piece alltogether. Does it provide punch? yeah, it should it's a 10", lows? not at any usefull decibel range. Please demo a few other's before buying this one, do yourself a big favor. For that kinda money their is few to look at.

Strength:

strong build quality bang for buck performance does actually get 18hz better than anything else in its class

Weakness:

it has a port ( excellent subs don't need one

lets set the record straight. bang for the buck.the actual rating is 350 watts rms and the sw320 is at 250 watts.the power and frequency range achieved by this sub is amazing for the price tag attached to it. for those idiots who want to actually hear 18hz frequencies good luck ! u dont hear anything under twenty unless u have a velodyne spl series and thats a whole lot more buck than bang besides under 20hz is supposed to be felt not heard. if u want to hear 18hz from this sub then get another sub to run frequencies above 40 hz and turn the sw 800 to 40 hz and the power all the way up that should do it ! this sub is excellent value for money (with emphasis on value )its a good buy in anyones book unless you have money to burn .if you do get mk75 and above or velodyne spl series. price paid is in ZAR( south african rands )= $810.00

Strength:

powerful bass, excellent(perhaps one of the best) with movies, very good with music, looks great-very compact size, great build

Weakness:

cheap powercord, but that's all.

I'm owner of Paradigm Studio 80, so I was looking for a very good subwoofer.I've tried many. But this one was incredible-very powerful-not 800 watts, but about 300 watts RMS-that's enough for 50 meters rooms.

Strength:

There are to many to list...try a few diferent models before you buy and you will see the differance

Weakness:

NONE

I tried the paradigm ps 1000 for about a week listening to various movies and music and I was happy with the product. The problem I had was my wife didnt like the soud of it! go figure!! So I had to try another one...I chose the Yamaha YST-SW800.....and am I glad I did...the base is undescribable. You have no idea were its coming from! You have to watch for things falling off the shelves during a movie! I wathced Black hawk down and I thought I was there... awwwwsome!!

For those who may be wondering I contacted Yamaha regarding the RMS power rating for the YST-SW800. The reply that i recieved stated that the 1000 watt rating that is stated for the sub is the peak power and not the RMS wattage. Yamaha could not provide me with the RMS output for this particular sub. I hope this does not discourage anyone from buying this sub but I thought it might be helpful to those that are intreasted in purchasing this sub.

Strength:

awesome power, compact size, extremely good for video.

Weakness:

in retrospect none whatsoever

I have been using this sub for more than 2 years now and am extremely satisfied with it. I had given a review earlier immidiately after purchase. This sub really seems to improve with age. I would give it a excellent rating for movies and a very good rating for music. I had 2 nos yamaha SW 160 before I bought this baby. To cite an example of its punch recently as i was watching U 571 during the depth charge scene my neighbour staying 3 floors down called up to grumble about the whole 10 floor building shaking. Now i have hooked my 160's to the fronts, 800 to the lfe and and another 160 on my rears and the effect is awesome. hats of to yamaha fr producing a world class product at affordable prices. i tested this unit with a frequency test cd which claims recordings low as 15 hz, in steps of 5 hz and this baby really shook my room even though i couldn't hear any sound except for all furniture in the room rattling. would recommend this to anybody. minor operational discomfort like the selector switch on the backside should not be a deterrent to any body.

Strength:

This Sub has more than enough amplification, resulting in a longer lasting amplifier and woofer. Very well built unit, built to last.

Weakness:

Get serious, it really does not have any weaknesses. Other than Yamaha could build a more convienient external controller, making adjustment of the sub easy.

I use two of these subs, despite the nondirectional brag of using one. Hooked up through an external dbx 120x DS, sub controller. I leave the settings on the subs on Max, and just use the crossover and more flexible controls on the DBX unit. These subs can shake my house down, and loosen nails in studs, while at the same time acting cleanly and without distortion. The Best way I found to control them is with an external DBX. External controllers improve ALL SUBS.

Strength:

ITS ABILITY TO GENERATE EXPLOSIONS IN A HOME CINEMA SET UP. THE SIZE ITS QUITE SMALL. AND THE PRICE

Weakness:

POWER CONSUMPTION (BUT WHO REALLY CARES). I DO NOT THINK IT GOES AS LOW AS 18 HERTS. MY REL Q50 GOES LOWER THAN THE YAMAHA. I'M WAITING FOR A DYNAMICALLY EFFICIENT SUB FROM YAMAHA. AS THE SUB CAN EXAGERRATED SOUNDS . BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE ON A TIGHT BUDGET OR A FIRST TIMER.

MIXED FEELINGS, REALLY.OR SHOUILD I SAY UNDER-ENGINEERED.BUT THEN AGAIN AN ALL MUSCLE SUBWOOFER COMPRABLE TO A DODGE VIPER V12 WITH TOO MUCH POWER BUT LITTLE DYNAMICS OF A LESSER WATTAGED REL SUWOOFER, BUT THEN AGAIN AT A VERY LOW PRICE LIKE THIS, YOU CAN NEVER FIND ANY SUB IN THIS PRICE RANGE THAT PERFORMS AS GOOD AS THIS SUB. I CHALLENGE ANY ONE TO FIND A BETTER SUB AT THIS PRICE. I HAD A REL Q50 SUB. IT WAS VERY GOOD AND DYNAMICALLY EFFICIENT BUT LACKED POWER AT THE TOP END ESPECIALLY AT HIGH VOLUMES SO I WENT TO BUY THE REL STRORM III WHICH WAS TOO CONTROLLED FOR MY LIKING AS IT TURNED OUT TO BE AN AUDIOFILES SUB AND MY FRIENDS DID NOT BELEVE THAT I SPENT £1000 ON ON THE REL STORM III SO I SOLD IT PRIVATELY. BUT ALL THIS CHANGED WHEN I WATCHED JURRASSIC PARK 3(CHAPTER 5) AND FAST AND FURIOUS(THE CAR RACE SCENE) ON DTS AT A MATES HOUSE. I WAS COMPLETELY LEFT WITH GREEN EYES BECAUSE IT BLEW THE WHOLE ROOM APART, SENT RIPPLES THROUGH MY TROUSERS AND MY BODY AND GOT MY NEIGHBOURS ASKING IF EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. PLEASE BUY ONE IF YOU WANT IT TO BOOST YOUR HOME CINEMA SET UP, BUT IF YOU LISTEN TO A LOT OF MUSIC, PLEASE FORGET IT AND BUY A REL SUB. I USE THE REL FOR MUSIC AND THE YAMAHA SW800 AND REL REL Q50 FOR MOVIES SIMULTANEOUSLY.
