Strength:

Beautiful, full sound. Smooth yet low CONTROLLED powerful bass. Seemless integration with current speakers

Weakness:

price

I first used the crappy "tin-can BASS" 10inch subs, which blew a fuse within 5min of play. I then used JBL PB12 for about 1 week. After reading the constant rants and raves about Velodyne, I decided to try one. THey were well worth the trip and experimentation. They sound MUCH more solid, seemless and controlled compared to the JBLs. The JBLs were at the top notch compared to Klipsch, but compared to the Velodynes'...they don't match up. The Velodynes let you know they're more serious with the heat sinks on the amp section. The JBLs had no heat dissipation. This is a top notch product.

Strength:

very nice bass,strong and deep.

Weakness:

none...except those useless feet!!

I got such a good price cause a friend used to work for them and he hooked me up with a discount. It really is amazing how much a sub adds to music and movies. takes it to a whole new level. That friend of mine got the CT150-that is just overkill...unless you have a house. I live in an apt. and the neighbors complained within the 1st 2 hrs i had it on. So i really cant tkae full advantage of the sub.

The feet suck!. I have it on carpet and it does nothing for the sub. Probably gonna go to home depot and get some wood cut for it and place it on that.
Overall i couldnt be happier. the best $285 i ever spent. Worth at least double that

Strength:

VERY POWERFUL! Easy to use, LED power light, PRICE, good with music, and it goes LOW, 87db @ 20hz!

Weakness:

NONE!

This is an excellent sub! My listening room is my living room, which opens up to other rooms with cathedral ceilings. I am talking over 8000 cubic feet in my living room alone, not counting the other catherdral ceiling rooms! It has no problem shaking everything! I am worried for my computer located in a different room, it shakes the heck out of my monitor and hard drive!

I wasn't going to buy a sub, since my ADS front tower speakers have dual 8" drivers in each, but I didn't realize what I was missing! I am using a 100w Pioneer reciever and ADS fronts, with Definitive surrounds and center, which all really match well! Since this is my first sub, I had a little placement trouble, I had it next to my TV, but in my giagantic room, all it did was rattle things, no bass:( So i played with it, them I found that in the corner, this thing hit me hard in the chest. I love bass, so I have this thing turned up pretty high, almost 6 out of 9 on the back panel. I think that the best sub testing music is the Tarzan sountrack, track 1. Awsome, lots of 20-25hz output, and at insane volume, if you LOVE BASS, this sub is your SOULMATE! I don't think I'll ever be able to depart from it.

I tested several subs, in this price class(under $700). This was the clear winner, although I was going to buy the CT-100, I decided that my big room needed more power. I seriously thought about the Deftech Prosub200TL, since it was on sale for $450, but it just wasn't engouth for my bass craving ears. I also tested a PF15TL+, but it had serious rattling problems, and at 20hz, the 15 woofer isn't as loud, 85hz, a big audible difference. I love this sub, and I know I bought the best for the price, this sub rocks, you'll love it!

Strength:

none....

Weakness:

workmanship, thump

I apologize for not having the time the guy below had, but did want to post my experience with 3 THREE of these subs!! One returned, another returned, and yet another fell apart and returned.

Buzzed, thumped at certain freq's and generally stopped wo5rking all together. Could never advise someone buying this brand or model.

Strength:

very nice bass 2000 model year has more power then in past years 170 watts and 400 watts of dynamic power

Weakness:

little rubber feet

CT-120 has very clean deep bass with music or movies if you find it a bit boomy like some other reviewers did try turning down the low pass filter to between 65-80 Hz

I pair mine with Velodynes CT-41 satellites and CT-42 center channel speakers which where hard to find but worth looking for a very well matchted sub and satellite system

the one bad thing I found was the tiny tiny rubber feet could have been a bit larger so I used the tiptoes from my last set of speakers and used the tiny feet to tip up my center channel speaker on top of my wall unit

next I need a new receiver with 5.1 which velodyne tels me will even make the sub better still as if its not all readty great!

Strength:

loud

Weakness:

build quality, boomy, rubber feet

I went through 3 of these. The first one was the CT-100. I got it home and it would not turn on. I returned it and they gave me the CT-120 for the same price. This unit was also broken, the cabinet was coming apart. The 3rd one finally worked.

I found that this sub was much louder than the paradigm, but not as tight. It did not blend well with my Monitor 7's. No matter where I placed it, it sounded boomy and off key. Also, the build quality is very poor. The cabinet is fragile and it comes with cheap rubber feet. Of the subs I tested, the Acoustic Research had the best sound, it is very muscial, tight, and will blend in well with the main speakers. The acoustic research was also almost $100 cheaper.

Strength:

solid, tight bass at high levels

Weakness:

none yet

good sub, I have a small listening area set up with a yamaha processor and a mcintosh mc250 amplifier hooked up to a pair of dcm timeframe tf-350's. this system paired with this sub make a good combination. This sub is a little expensive but overall it is worth the money. In a small room it is fairly stong at very low levels. Corner loaded in my room the response drops off at about 23hz. I would recomend this sub to any one that wants to spend this much money.

Strength:

Extremely clean bass. Loud and Low.

Weakness:

no obvious weaknesses, maybe banana clips for inputs.
(has binding posts, no inserts.) what do I care though use
subwoofer pre-out or the main pre-outs instead.

The only other sub-brand that I could afford of comparable
quality in sound was the M&K and the Polk.
The polk was very pleasant sounding and filled in the bottom
end of lighter material with elegance yet had no brute strength at all, simply could not put out low-freq with authourity. The M&K had it all even a nice high-gloss finish for an extra $100. It was a very good sub yet the velodyne was a little more catching to me. like the M&K it has absolutely no bleed into higher frequencies. It seemed
to actually have a burlier woofer cone, cabinet not as solid but the sound was very sweet. listening to some fast paced rock and roll and some pink floyd, also a techno dance CD with deep and extended bass. The velodyne was the most well rounded of them all. The tones were very acturate, example in Pink floyd's "sorrow" the bass guitar was so convincingly real. My friend plays bass guitar and this sound very close the real thing.

anyway I think this is really the best use of anybody's $500, recommended highly.

for anyone highly interested in the most natural realistic
sound I recommend getting two subs and placing them beside each front speaker, if you can still corner load one or both, a definite plus. I just bought my second, because
velodyne definitly gets you addicted to in depth hard hitting music. enjoy.
p.s. two twelves is alot of bass!!!!!!!!!!11

Strength:

Very powerful. Runs cool. Very fast attack.

Weakness:

The crazy thing likes to walk around the room. It killed my TV.

I bought a RM660 set of speakers from Circuit City, which included a Polk PSW350. I am not a bass head but I was very disappointed with the performance of the sub so I upgraded it to a PSW450. No don’t get me wrong, the Polk set is very nice. The speakers are very smooth and eloquent but when a big bass note strolls by it is met by a great big SPLAT!! You know what I mean, that "blah" sound that comes from a distorting speaker. I returned it and while I was there I gave the Velodyne CT120 a listen. It seemed to be much more powerful than the Polk. So I decided to take it home and try it out. That little black block has got some power! I had it sitting on the floor by my entertainment center (do not ever put it there). During the helicopter seen in "The Matrix” my TV quit making reds. I took it to a repair shop and they said the circuit board and become delaminated as if it had been dropped. When I told him what I had he said WELL MOVE THE SUB YOU IDIOT!! Geesh! So I went back to CC one more time and bought a Sony Wega or Vega or whatever. That’s one nice TV I must say!! That sub like to walk around the room. The sub has no feet on it. It has a smooth bottom. I have it on carpet and it wanders around. I bought some little rubber pads and put them on the bottom which stopped that.

There is something to be said for "burning" it in. It seems the more I use it, the better it sounds. The only thing I don't like about it is its boomyness. It plays great until it reaches a VERY low note and the house shakes and pictures move around etc.

All in all I would say that it is a very good sub and worth every penny. It is very loud and very powerful. If it’s got enough power to blow up a 32" Sony, its pretty stout. I would suggest running it along side an 8" or smaller sub to make up for the lost mid-bass.

Strength:

All the hook-up options a top notch sub should have, very solid construction, good aesthetics, and GREAT PERFORMANCE!!

Weakness:

As others have stated, absolutely none at this price (or at a substantially higher one)

First, my set-up prior to purchasing the sub:

Pioneer VSXD906s receiver
Parasound HCA1500A amp
Infinity SM155 front speakers
Infinity SMVIDEO center channel
Infinity SM65 surround speakers

With the Parasound amp (200 Watts/Channel @ 8ohms), there was substantial bass coming from the SM155's. With 15" woofers, they were able to cleanly produce down to about 30-35Hz. I wanted something to fill in that last bit of the spectrum and add some punch to the bottom end, but not at the expense the quality I had been experiencing. As anyone who has looked for a sub can attest, there are an overwhelming amount of choices, each claiming to be the best.

To put it succinctly, this sub is exactly what I was looking for!! Movies rock, and music has a new fullness that I knew was there, but had not experienced. It is not boomy, and can be tweaked to just about anyone's taste. To the people who have stated that this product is less than the reputation of Velodyne's name, I say where and what are you listening to? This budget sub is light years ahead of the competition in this price range and competes well with those of higher cost.

If you are looking for a sub that can punch when needed and deliver tight bass when asked, go and listen to a PROPERLY CONFIGURED SYSTEM with this component. I cannot praise this product enough!!!

GREAT JOB VELODYNE!!!
