Strength:

Clean powerful bass you can feel. Amazing power and subtlely.

Weakness:

It's BIG. Only one finishing option.

I like to do a lot of research before buying a product, knowing that when i spend my money it wasn't wasted. Time and time again, i've done research and picked what i thought was the best product in my price range. I also have very high expectations. In reading these reviews, i often get my expectations up and am more often than not disappointed with the actual products when it arrives. Not that they're not great products, i was just expecting more.

My expectations for this sub couldn't have been higher. After reading online reviews and user forums for months, i had built myself up to be disappointed again.

The sub arrived in a large, fairly heavy box (80lbs). Getting it unpacked was failry easy, taking a couple pieces of foam out of the box and sliding it out. I can't help but wonder how many subs are damaged from being dropped, as there isn't much protection on top or bottom. I wasn't prepared how big the sub was, even though i took measurements and thought i had an idea. It's covered in a nice black cloth, like a silky felt. It's the only color it comes in.

Hooking up the sub was literally a 5 minute job. Slide it into positiion, plug it in, very easy. Calibrating it takes about an hour. I highly recommend an SPL meter and AVIA disc.

After setting up it, it was time to run it through it through its paces. I popped in Revenge of the Sith and hit play. I was absolutely blown away. My dog started barking, not knowing what was shaking the house. My wife, usually just appeases me and says "i'm glad you're happy", not being able to hear a difference in most of my audio purchases. Not this time. You can not only hear deep bass, but feel it as well. It's clean, fast, and deep.

Then i started putting in some of my music CD's. I have heard people say in the past they were hearing details they never heard before and thought this was an exaggeration at best. I'm happy to report it isn't. Bass chords that were a muddy part of the background now came alive. Bass guitar and drums were awesome. I listened to music all night.

This is the only time in the last 10 years that my expectations have not only been exceeded but crushed. I couldn't recommend this sub more. Highest recommendation.

Nothing i have ever used remotely compares with this sub. I have a Klipsch sub, but it's now a doorstop.

Strength:

Accurate, Deep Bass. Tight and fast. Very, very powerful!!! High spouse approval...small footprint.

Weakness:

You better like Black.

I have been looking a long time to find a sub that would work well with my B & W Nautilus 802's. Most subs I tried only added thump or a very artificial "hump" between 40Hz and 50Hz. No other sub I tried sounded fast enough or detailed enough to keep up with the N802's. The few that did sound good, like the Paradigm Servo 15, or the Velodyne were just more money than I wanted to spend. The N802's go quite low on there own. They are solid to 35Hz and still have significant output at 30Hz, but it ends there. The SVS PC Ultra really ads a whole new dimension. I am primarily audio, but do play DVD's thru this 3 ch. set up. I can't explain to you audiophiles what an incredible addition a truly good sub makes. It will add a whole new dimension to your listening. The lowest octave is by far the hardest to reproduce. When you try to get the deepest bass from your "satellite" speakers, it usually means moving them back into the corners of the room. This is to get enhancement from the walls. This does give you better bass, but it also usually has a very negative effect on imaging. By adding a sub to your audio system you benefit not only from deeper, better bass, but it allows you to position your main speakers for the best possible imaging. The improvement in imaging can be dramatic. If you have an underpowered system, you can use the high level inputs to remove the lowest frequencies from your satellite speakers and hear an incredible difference. You won't be wasting amplifier power on frequencies your main speakers can't reproduce. Home theatre fans will love this sub.....it can actually be scary. I thought I had done structural damage to my house while playing movies like Terminator II and War of the Worlds. This is not just an unbelievable sub for the money......it is one of the best "Super Subs" you can buy........period.
