Strength:

High value performance ratio

Weakness:

No remote control

I listen velodyne (HGS) and sunfire which are similar.
I use Rel Q200E integrate my magnepanner MG1.6 and the roll off point is setted at 40hz and volume at 6 o'clock connect with high level input (Power amp to sub-woofer). Good integration, musical, smooth and clear bass.
Another great idea of Q200E for audio & AV share one sub-woofer. I also use five Boston satellite speakers for AV. I by-pass the crossover of low level input (RCA) and it has individual volume switch for two input jack.
Now I enjoy my stereo audio and AV so much!

Strength:

Neat looking, very powerfull, good integration

Weakness:

Can't be placed anywhere near your television (magnetic field)

I've only had this subwoofer for a week now and until now I'm totally satisfied. I'm no expert on placing and installing of audio equipment of any kind but I had this sub connected up and running reasonably well in half an hour. Allthough I find this subwoofer quite expensive (for my budget that is) it is a very good piece of kit. It's an unbelievable experience when you hear(feel) this kind off bass for the first time! It's very weird that at the moment you hear this bass you could swear it was coming from your main speakers and that the sub doesn't do anything at all. But when you put your hand on the sub you can feel it doing it's job pretty well, so no complaints on bad integration here. The only disadvantage is that it doesn't have a remote and you need to switch mode when your listening to normal cd/radio or a dolby digital/dts source. This offcourse has the advantage that you can set appropriate sound levels for both sources and switch between them with the throw of a switch. I've got quite a small listening room 3 x 4 meter so placement was a problem since it couldn't sit near my telly. It's not magnetically shielded. So if your looking for a dual purpose subwoofer (rap/techno music and dolby digital) and you wan't a good looking and you've got the budget I can whole hartedly recomment this subwoofer

Strength:

Size, Warranty,Denture Rattling Bass, Clean Intergration, Drowns out that wailing sound from the neighbors

Weakness:

Controls on the rear panel.

I have intergrated this with a NAD T760 a/v receiver, four B&W 601 S2's and a B&W CC6 S2 centre. WOW. Once tuned to the room this baby begins to shake the house with tight controlled bass. I cranked up Morcheeba's "Who can you trust", some really heavy bass numbers on this album - man I was blown away by the fast excellent definition, no boominess for this sub. And onto the uniquitious Matrix dvd and then onto Starship Troopers - allround fantastic at the bangs, helicopters, spaceship rumbles and alien grunts. Now even Management (the wife) is interested in listening my "toy". Go demo this sub and you will go home with one.

Strength:

Nimble and fast. Tiny and muscular. Size. Plenty of slam for such a small box. Great for home theater. If you don't have the space, this is the best deal.

Weakness:

The controls are at the back and I need to bend and stretch to reach them.

I fail to understand how the previous reviewer can seriously claim the 200E lacks slam. Come on Fredik! You can't compare this REL box with the bigger subs. One needs to take the size in perspective. It measures just 30cm or 12 inches!! For a box this small, the slam and low frequencies it reaches are staggering. The 200E can go terifically loud, making it sound larger than it seems. The reviewers before who gave the Q200E five stars can testify.

Ironically, I found the sub too powerful for my small room. I'm using the Q200E in my living hall which is about 400 sq feet in area. At times the low frequency effects literally shake my window grills in the adjoining room and even rattle and move the cutlery in my kitchen cabinets. It's not just boom and slam. The bass is quick and fast, and considering its price, makes the 200E an excellent bargain compared to the Sunfire range of small subs.

On stereo music, the control for crossover adjustments comes in handy, allowing me the luxury of choosing the right high level settings for different music sources. I actually found the bass too boomy on some dance and rock pieces but was able to rectify the problem by attaching a Tekna Sonic vibration absorber at the back of the sub-woofer and placing the spikes on a piece of carpet. These tweaks make the 200E more vesatile and musical - and ideal for both movies and music. This is a very under-rated sub that scores big on its performance.

Strength:

Compact Size, Build Quality, Seperate Low and High Level connections which can be used simultaneously, It's a REL!

Weakness:

Location of controls a little awkward. Supplied Low Level monitor cable very basic.

I just got into Home Cinema and discovered a need for the lower level Bass to make the movies come to life. Never having felt the need for a Sub previously I set about reading up on some reviews and then audtioning.

There was 1 important requirement I had which was I wanted maximum Subwoofer bass from as small a box as possible (it had to be Wife friendly). I trialed a second user Strata 3, but found it too large for my room and to be honest it did not seem able to supply that gut wrenching low level bass I was expecting (probably more suited to music than movies). On investigation I discovered that there has been a mod on later models (serial numbers which begin with 2)whereby one of the low level inputs has been given a 12dB gain to improve the bass levels.

I then took the Q200E home and was astounded at the power of bass this little box could give out.

Before taking the plunge and buying the Q200E I decided to give the newly released Q150E a listen. Well it is £100- cheaper (MRRP £499-) and even smaller than the Q200E.

I found that the Q150E was quite capable of shaking the foundations on big movie explosions and giving a genuine ambience in the Under Sea Lab scenes in Deep Blue Sea. What it lacked was the refinement and musicality of the Q200E.

To be honest there was not a great deal in it and I was still undecided until I came across a Q200E being offered for £475- (UK Pounds) on QXL. I bid for it and got it for that price.

It's small on size (effectively a 1 foot cube) but BIG on bass. Anything more than about 1/2 volume and the bass takes over the room. It has created a new dimension to Movies and gives music an added richness and depth. Go on, BUY ONE. This box has WOW! factor.

Strength:

Very Deep & Clean lows. Small size with big sound.

Weakness:

Lacks that last few db on loud action movies

Having used this sub for over a year now I've found it to be a little gem in terms of what its output is compared to its dimunitive size. The first time you hear the doors and walls rattle in ur room is sure to put a big smile on ur face. This sub can do that without u actually hearing bass. Eg. True Lies DVD sequence where a-bomb goes off in florida keys. The resulting shockwave goes right through ur house. Have found this sub to be quite capable in most situations. Only problems I have with it are on the Eagles 'Hell frezes over' DVD on DTS. The opening track 'Hotel California' there is a bass note which makes the sub flap like a fool at any volume, Even set to nearly off. This is the only instace of distortion I have incountered. No other dvd has the same effect on the sub. I own nearly 100 DVDs. Have been considering purchasing a second rel for a while now but am gonna try a paradigm servo 15. Its got rave reviews. plus I can get one for same price as a Rel Q200e. Twice the power and deeper bass. Am thinking about Putting the Rel on to my rears which are nothing to be laughed at. Will write again to let U know how it fairs against the servo 15.

Strength:

Absolutely house-crunching bass. Compact. Build Quality. Reputation. Value for money.

Weakness:

NONE!...this is perfect in every way!

I first looked at upgrading my system via my local A/V shop. Being a convert to home cinema a couple of years ago, I decided that my Sony Amp, Kef Cresta (front & centre speakers) and Tannoy (rear speakers) needed some help in the bass department. I asked my friendly A/V expert at my local shop what I should based on my budget. He immediately said 'REL' and explained in glowing terms that I would not find anything to compare for the money I was willing to spend. Well, all I can say is that, thank god he recommended the REL Q200E. A fantastic piece of equipment that has made my A/V set-up complete. I may even divorce my wife and marry the damn thing!....10/10.

Strength:

Non-boomy good quality bass

Weakness:

No Grille

I was actually scouting for Sunfire in a shopping mall in KL on January 1,2001. Unfortunately the shop that dealt with SunFire products was closed for the holiday. I ended up in another AV shop which sold REL and Audio Pro subs.

I first auditioned the Audio Pro and found it to be warm, soft and pleasing to the ears. I was already quite customed to this type of soft bass sound which was distinctly similar to the bass sound from my 23-year-old Technics
Linear Phase speakers SB-5000. (In case you youngsters don,t know, SB-5000 & the bigger SB-7000 were the 1st batch of `Hi-Fi' speakers produced by Panasonic under the brand name of Technics)

Next I checked out the Q100 and I was quite happy to learn that REL sub was also of non-ported design. I was amazed by the prodigious amount of non-boomy and detailed bass emanating from this relatively small box.

I asked the salesman if he had any other better or more expensive sub. He brought in the Q200E. I was not impressed as the sub was not only much smaller and lighter than the Q100E, its exposed drive unit also looked `cheap'. But on listening, despite its smaller size, I felt the sound quality was almost identical to that of Q100.

The salesman was quick to advise that Q100 cost $250-00 less and represented a much better value for money. The only difference was an extra mode selector switch.

On further listening, however, I detected a sense of greater spaciousness in the sound quality of the 200. Also, I thought since the 200 allowed greater flexibility in terms of adjustment and tweaking, I should have less
problem matching it to my present A&W speakers & Yamaha amplifier. (Here goods sold are not returnable!!)

Back home, I started testing and tweaking the 200. (To be honest, from the instant I heard the 100 & 200, I never doubted for a moment that this was a very good sub for even a high-end home theatre setup. But then I was more
concerned with extracting or rather bringing out the best sonic quality from the 200...) The improvement in the low bass frequency especially low notes from bass quitar & organ (more controlled & detailed) was almost immediately
evident. I was truly thrilled and surprised when I could even hear sweet improvement in the bass sound from a musically simple song, Joan Baez - Farewell Angelina, which was one of my favorites.

It is already more than a year now. I must say I have been quite happy with the 200. I have spent many hours tweaking and adjusting the mode switch, filter circuit (using both high & low input) as well as adjusting the positioning of the sub. I found that certain CDs or songs rather, were
better using high level input and filter roll-off at about 70Hz while others sounded better with the filter bypassed.

Finally I settled down with the Sub perched on an 18"-high solid metal speaker stand next to one of my A&W speakers. Most of the time the mode switch was left in position 2 and with the volume switch slightly below 1/4 mark. The sound from this system had drawn lots of praises from my friends
& neighbours, the best was this: "Wow!! it's like a Real Band playing Live here!"

Strength:

catastrophic bass relative to size, fast, accurate, small.

Weakness:

very very hard to setup. Expensive over there in america.

mmmm such power, perfect for movies, but also superb for music. No sub is better at this price. Even above this price it's hard to get a big improvement in quality.

However, there are so many options and connections etc, that it's near damn impossible to get it just right so your happy with it. Otherwise you will be forever tinkering with it. This makes you feel incomplete...

I've only had it a few days, but already its superb.

Strength:

small relative to its power; well built, look looking

Weakness:

neutrik speaker cable is too flimmsy (too slim) and may not good for transfer of source (no instruction on how to replace it with a better one); Mannual too simple and not clear;

I bought this subwoofer because of the good reputation of REL in producing subwoofer. I had not made any audition before I bought this Rel, relying on review information thru web surfing. Thank God, I didn't make a wrong decision at least. I can use this sub to complement my home theatre system (Paradigm Monitor 7 as front, AR for centre and surrunder, Toshiba DVD) and listening musics/songs (Arcam Diva 92 CD), all thru Onkyo receiver 575. I am planning to buy a system of stereo amplifiers (pre and power/integrated), may be Muscial Fidelity A3 CR pre & power system and a pair of Dynaudio spealers (possibly Countour 1.3 SE) for listening musics because my family member also enjoy audiophil /good CDs. I hope the proposed system could work well with this Rel too.

My concern is that the supplied Neutrik speaker cable/connector is not flexible. I don't know how to replace this flimmsy speaker cable. In fact, the mannual is not so clear to guide the user on how to maximize the strengths of this REL. I really hope that REL should do somethings to improve in this respect. This will certainlly conduce more to buy REL products.
