Strength:

Low Volume bass

Weakness:

it distorts terrible when turned up at all. movie bass is more of a shake than defined bass b/c it just distorts too much

i compared it to the pdr-10 and pdr-12 and was told by the salesman that it would sound similar, but it doesnt sound nearly as good for the same price as them. Ok for casual listening, but not if you can tell if your sub is bottoming out in on big bass

Strength:

great sound no distortion

Weakness:

I have this sub paired with alpha minis (main) and alpha center. This is a great combination. The bass this sub puts out is amazing whether it is for music or movies. For music the sub is not boomy and for movies it shakes the earth! Really sounds great with the matrix and gone in 60 seconds. Highly recommend. The infinity sub I had could not handle the bass in these movies and sounded fair with music. The Alpha sub has shown no signs of not being able to handle the load.! Got mine for $288 + $12 shipping from at your service. The 65 watts is more than enough power, my room is 13x25 and there is no problem filling the room.

Strength:

don't be fooled by the 65 watt amp it sounds like a 250 watt amp

Weakness:

none

awesome sub no matter what this baby can dish out any thing
you toss at it. It can produce low frequency's down to 24 HZ
the sub quickly drops off around 20 HZ without any distortion plus this sub can put out ground shaking bass
while at low low frequency's at loud volumes without a hint of distortion.
Tow tell you the truth this sub puts out the output of a 12 incher yes a 12 incher
this sub has
a 65 watt amp and 220 watts peak power that may not sound like much but trust me on this sub i'ts alot

Strength:

cost versus performance.(very glad I was recommended this great little sub)

Weakness:

for that price? not a one!!

I've owned this sub now for close to two years and it has performed flawlessly. for the 300.00 I paid for this awsome
little sub, it has brought me hours and hours of wall shaking evects and great chest rumbling and smiles to the friends that come over to watch movies and hear great music.
Great Value! I would go out and by it again if I didn't already have one.
Keep up the good work PSB! and Happy Listening!

Strength:

Price ($429 CAN), clean/tight bass

Weakness:

None as yet.

I originally was going to pick up the Paradigm PDR-10 to go along the Paradign Titans (fronts and surrounds) as well as the Paradigm CC-170 center but after listening to the Subsonic-5, I definitely thought it was much tighter and more responsive without being too "boomy" as one reviewer put it. It's got more than enough punch for my HT set-up.

Strength:

Good bass response, good musical bass, little port noise at max volume.

Weakness:

not enough amp power to create higher sound pressure, not enough ground shaking bass~ well afterall it is a 10incher~

I bought it, it had great bass response, tight and accurate bass. It is good for all type of music listening. However, I traded in for a bigger Subsonic 6. Not because Sub5 is a bad sub, just because for 100 dollars more you can get subsonic 6. Sub 6 has an amp that is twice the sub 5, magnet and voice coil are bigger. I didn't see a reason why not~ plus I don't wanna later regret not getting a bigger sub (eq. parties). However sub 6 has a louder port noise (see my sub6 review in main speakers section of audioreview) If you are looking for something that will fill lower HZ, with sub 5 is the way to go. Look for ground shaking, sub 6 then~

Strength:

great bang for your canadian buck, revamped and improved circuitry from alpha sub1 model

Weakness:

took home numerous subs for trial and error. the worst of the bunch was the cerwin vega cvt-200. this sub really blows with its poor design and constant hmmmmmm(first one out of the box was defective). sounddynamics not bad but lacks bass control at high levels. paradigm's pdr-10 comes close but psb takes the cake. great bass control and clarity ,thunderous bass response and next to no port distortion. front firing woofer and port design work amazing for me (20x15ft room with hardwood floor).very staisfied customer with the psb alphasub 5's price and performance. truly think one of the best buy within $250-310 U.S. dollar price renge. this is a great sub!
