Polk Audio PSW111 (Black) Subwoofers

DESCRIPTION

Okay, youve got your new flat panel HDTV and surround sound system - like, say, Polks RM Series loudspeakers or SurroundBar - so all you need to complete your home theater experience is the deep, rumbling, accurate low-frequency bass provided by Polks PSW111 subwoofer. A 150W built-in amplifier and distortion-reducing, performance-enhancing technologies like Dynamic Balance and Klippel laser optimization are only the beginning of what makes the PSW111 the bass machine youre searching for. The PSW111 Powered Subwoofer delivers powerful, accurate and musical bass from a shockingly small enclosure. Small enough to hide behind (or in) furniture or tuck into a corner, the PSW111 easily disappears from view. But its big bass output will never let you forget that it's there, delivering all the visceral gut rumble for your favorite action movies as well as tight, accurate bass precision for your music.

I am not sure when Polk introduced this sub but I have been using a Denon surround in a box with small satellite speakers. I felt my amp was getting tired so I switched it out first. Living in a small house i chose an Onkyo 333 with satisfactory results. My next choice was to improve my sub so I ordered the Polk psw 111 at a boxing day sale. The price listed was close to 400 bucks canuck but was on sale for $150.00. Cheap cheap and if I didn't like it I could give it away so I took the gamble and ordered. In about 3 business days my sub arrived and one power cord and one line in, a twist of frequency and volume to max and i had clean punchy bass. I have real diverse taste in music so i dug up a video of Marcus Miller and Eric Clapton to see how this little baby would handle Marcus and his slap/pluck style. Wow what a surprise when Steve Gadds' kick drum started pulsing through this little sub...clear concise and just punchy enough.....NICE! But back to Marcus, every slap and pluck was crystal clear and that patent Marcus Miller sound was ever present through the whole disc. I had the system at about half volume with the sub full volume and it seemed well balanced and sounding nice. My next test was some rap...B I G...again the sub held its own, Buddy Rich Big Band ( Neil Pearts tribute) again WOW. Some acoustic guitar...cool, classical music...again good. I cranked it just because I do that sort of thing and at ear punishing volume i get distortion but i dont need that kind of torture in my ears....if you wantt concert volumes you will need more amp, more bass and probably more speaker: go out and watch George Thorogood live if you need loud and take earplugs! So I tried an action flick with the amp a bit past halfway...nice rumble and explosions and car crashes are everything your neighbor is going to love about your system. For the price I am going to buy a second one and run double subs...this should purify my bass sound and at this cost I feel this sub was a great purchase, it doesnt shake my windows or make my ears bleed but it sounds very clean and punchy and functions quite well in a small room. I can hear it clearly in all my rooms at listening level and as I write I have the tunes on >>>Rahsaan Roland Kirk, a recording from the sixties or seventies ( he passed on in 75 I think) great sounding walking bass and sax plus. This sub is all you need for a small space, run a decent set of satellites and a quality amp and you should be a happy camper.

Excellent tight and punchy bass. At times you can actually feel this sub. It fits just about anywhere with its tiny foot print. Don't expect to fill a "large room" . If you want to rattle the pictures off your wall you might want to step up to a larger driver. This sub is powerful enough for you to feel an explosion or a tight and low music track. Don't play "Bass I Love You" and expect to clear your sinuses. But then again, don't get me wrong, for its size and power it will beat up cheap 10" sub all day long ! !.
