I just bought the PS-1000 for $100 off of Craigslist. I'm not sure the the exact year but this thing is FANTASTIC! I don't have much to compare it to but I know what great music is and how it should sound. I had recently purchsed Definitive Technology fronts and center and was looking for a decent subwoofer for a couple weeks. I almost bought a couple other Sony's, JBL's and Infinity's for less but my neighbor recommended Paradigm so took it into consideration after reading the reviews. I have listened to just about every type of music with this and it sounded great with everything I threw at it. Yes, I had to adjust the bass manually with different genres of music so I wish that could be done with my controller but that was when I had the volume way up and I needed to find that sweet spot for various songs. Just to see how much I could shake the house I threw some old school rap at it and it really thumps if that is what you are looking for then this model can give you that and then some. I mainly listen to rock music and it sounded great with even fast tempo bass. It's crisp clear and evident that this is a well constructed product. It is a bit larger then I thought, but that is secondary compared to the quality of this. If you can pick one of these up for $100 - $250 I would definitely recommend it. I played some techno and I felt like I was in a club, literally that good. Live rock music sounded like I was at a concert. This Subwoofer complimented my Definitive Pro-Cinema speakers so well that I couldn't be happier. I just need to get some rears to really see what this will sound like. I am using an Onkyo TX-SR804 receiver to power everything and these speakers and sub took everything I threw at it and I had the volume maxed out the way I have it set up. I have not used to to watch a DVD yet but I will write a review after I get my rears and really set everything up properly. I know there is way better stuff out the and way more money but if you are on a budget of less then $100 and you can get one of these for $100, just come up with the extra money and but it. You will be happy. Also if you like Jazz the PS-1000 sounds amazing as well. I read all the reviews here before I went and picked it up and all were so great that I felt confident. I read a bunch on another site and there were all poor to average ratings but this thing should never be rated poor to average unless it's hooked up wrong or a week receiver with crappy speakers. Go for it!

I love music and movies. This subwoofer has been a part of my home system for ..... 14 YEARS !!.... and it is still going strong. I have upgraded every other piece twice in 14 years but have kept this piece. It is a beast and still provide teeth shattering base as if new. Currently running Klipsch RS series 7.1 system with a Yamaha RX-2400 Receiver. Just added a new Plasma and Blu-Ray and this thing just keeps kicking doing an absolutely wonderful job with very true sound both for movies and a very respectable job with my more flaw reveaping music CD's.

I purchased an older NHT setup from a guy on craigslist. VT-1.4 front, superone XU surrounds with a VS-2A center channel. He threw in a Paradigm PS-1000 subwoofer with the package. I will only be using this setup for movies....no music. For the price of $1000 for the package, I am pleased with the subwoofer, but it tends to be a bit boomy and you have to be careful about where you position the subwoofer. In my application, it need to go in the corner, and that isn't ideal. Overall it is great for movies and ok for music.

I just purchased a Velodyne Minivee 10 subwoofer online last night for $375 (includes shipping) and I also found a SVS 20-39 PC Plus sub that I can probably get for $475. Any thoughts on whether I should keep the PS1000 or the Velodyne Minivee 10 or buy the SVS 20-39 PC Plus????

Please help with any advise you guys have!!!!! Thanks in advance.

Strength:

Deep low accurate bass. Not boomy.

Weakness:

None that I can think of.

One of the best subs I've heard at this price range. Exellent for home theater in a mid sized room. Really good for music too. Don't worry, If you buy this sub you won't be disappointed .

Strength:

Incredible loud, strkining bass without getting boomy and mushy. Many connection options allow flexibility with systems.

Weakness:

It is best against a wall and not in the corner or in open space. It tends to get boomy in the corner. It is quite large and heavy.

I have had the PS1000 for over ten years, and it has never disappointed me. I have never given the sub more than it can handle. I connect it to my amp with a Paradigm crossover hooked into my speaker B. That way, the sub is connected via RCA. I've had this thing through college and various apartments, and I'll put it up against anything up to five times its price (save Paradigm products). It has been moved, abused, and used as an end table by my wife, and it still pumps bass as good as ever. I absolutely recommend this product.

Customer Service

I have never had to have my PS1000 serviced, or any Paradigm product I own, for that matter.

Strength:

Fast and accurate for music. Blends seamlessly with my Paradigm Monitor 3se's.

Weakness:

Box is a bit large. non detatchable power cord is my biggest complaint. It can't cost two dollars more to add a IEC plug and cable.

I bought this sub on Ebay for my second system, and I like it a lot. It is paired with a pair of Paradigm Monitor 3seMk3's crossed over at 80 hz on the high pass at my preamp and about 90hz on the sub. Playing music it is quick and accurate, not sloppy as some of the other reviewers have found. It could be electronic source, music or set-up but I think this is a nice sounding sub at a reasonable price new or used. With time spent on set up, it disappears well. Listening to all types of music, it sounds good, but I can't vouch for home theater. I might move it to my theater system, an post another review, but I don't think it would be too impressive compaired to a pair of SVS's. But in all fairness, this sub does a lot for it's size.

Strength:

powerful low end bass notes.

Weakness:

need to move around to get the correct placing...otherwise none for that price.

bought the PS 1000 in the used market. I replaced the internal speaker cable with neotech copper to tightened the bass further...hook it up to my Yammy Amp and it blew me away. The pots in my kitchen was shaking...watching my dvd collection all over again, i've been missing lots of low frequency stuff...Lyle Poulin, what was the model of the MTX replacement driver that you bought, might want to purchase it to try out if the price is right over in singapore...thx

Strength:

Price Output blends nicely with my bose speakers rattles the walls/floor in my room, in other rooms, and everywhere else in the house. Doesn't clip or distort even at loud volumes. No problem whatsoever with the gain turned up 75%, and my Denon receiver at around -5db or so, which is very loud considering the receiver puts out 120 wpc. I can't say this enough....it will go very loud.

Weakness:

Takes some time placing, and shaking the wall and floor will add to the entire sound spectrum. Rattled my alarm clock right off the tv and put a dent on a dvd player below (these are the only weaknesses I can think of, and they're problems good subwoofers should have)

I have a Denon 3805 receiver and a bose acoustimass 167 speaker system. Everything's great except the bass. The "bass Module" or whatever Bose likes to call it can't give me the hard hitting bass I thought I bought, so I began searching for a subwoofer. I began months of research looking for the wrong thing. All I was looking for was the most amount of watts. I went to Tweeter and heard a Velodyne SPL 1200 which didn't impress me. The dealer was kind of reluctant to turn up the volume, which said it didn't play that loud. Next I heard the sunfire super junior which had more power and yet again the salesperson wouldn't turn up the overall volume too much. Definitive supercube 2 was the best one so far, and I would have bought that if I didn't try one more brnad. Finally, I stumbled onto Paradigm and found a dealer. He demoed three subwoofers. First was the Seismic 10, which was 1200 RMS 4500 Peak. That had the least amount of output. Next he demoed the PW2200 which had more output and less power. Then he blew me away with the PS1000. It had the most output, the least amount of wattage, and was the least expensive. It was a dream come true. If you're looking for very powerful, deep bass that'll shake the entire house, you can't go wrong, and what a price! I have it upstairs in the bonus room over the garage and I can actually hear and feel it when I'm standing in the driveway. My poor neighbors. Overall, it's a fantastic sub and I'll never buy another brand of subwoofer again

Strength:

Very quick and punchy not boomy. No distortion and it just sounds better and better. Great for HT use as well as for true "audiophiles" like me.

Weakness:

None. Just wish I had of gotten the 12" instead but oh well.

Well, I originally bought a paradigm PDR12 v3 but did not care for it much. it played well for home theater use but would bottom out at times especailly listening to Linkin Park. So, I took it back at bought the PS-1000 v4 which is a 10" not a 12" but it is in a band pass box. All I can say is ummmm WOW!!! There is absolutely no distortion and is free from bottoming out. This sub has excellent sound quality and is very dynamic. Thank you Paradigm I am a fan 4 life!!!!
