I just wanted to add this comment to my previous review of this excellent subwoofer. About 2 weeks ago I upgraded my speakers to Coincident Speaker Technology Triumph Signatures and when I hooked everything up again my SubOne had developed a hum. This hum was an electrical buzz that bled through to the speakers as well. I contacted my dealer (Audio Excellence) and they contacted NHT. Within 2 days they had sent me a new cable to try. The new cable did not solve the problem and when I called Audio Excellence they told me that NHT had sent them a new controller box for me to try in case the cable didn't work! So I went and picked it up. Alas, the hum was still there. I called Audio Excellence and they called NHT to arrange for a repair. I boxed up the SubOne and had UPS come and pick it up to take it back to the Benecia, CA offices, fully expecting to be without a sub for a few weeks. Well, that same day Audio Excellence called me a told me that NHT had sent them a brand new SubOne for me and that I could come and pick it up! NHT didn't even know if I had sent in the old sub or not!

Whoa!!!! So, about 8 days after developing the problem I had a brand new SubOne that works perfectly! This is some seriously excellent customer service and I just wanted to give them 5 stars for that!

I want to keep this short and simple, I Love This Sub. First off this NHT is an attractive sub, as far as subs go. The control unit is great, allowing me to decide where I want to control my sub from without fumbling around on the back. This sub adds to my music, staying tight and accurate. Low frequency (5.1) effects are also powerful and fulfilling, more than enough for me. Highly recommended. Soul Satisfying!!!!!!

Other peices and parts
Infinity RS 2000.6 (Main)
Infinity RS3 (Rear)
Infinity CC3 (center)
Onkyo TX-DS 777
Pioneer DV-525

I Was so impressed with this unit my Infinity speakers are going bye-bye. Either a full compliment of superones and a supercenter. Or 1.5s , Audiocenter, and superones. Undecided but a friend is picking up the 2000.6 Infinitys Sunday. Should I do that to him????

Strength:

Clean sound, plenty of power, great looks

This is a wonderful sub with plenty of clean bass and good looks. When my wife saw the box she was pissed (it's huge and heavy), but when she saw the sub she had to admit it was attractive. The black piano finish is very nice. Anyway, enough about looks, this sub sounds great at all volumes and seems to have the same effect on everyone I've auditioned it for -- a big impressed smile.

NHT includes everything you need to set it up including a 20' 8-pin DIN cable to connect the sub to its controller. The instructions are very thorough and intelligible to non-audiophiles. It even includes a glossary of audio terms used in the manual. Very thoughtful!

Anyway, I haven't compared this sub to a dozen others, but I do know that the SubOne sounds great with my NHT 1.5s. If you're looking for a small room setup this is a great way to go.

Alright, I guess I will be the first to review the new Sub One from NHT. I wont labor on the new controller/crossover,or the new 250 watt Sunfire amp powering the same 10" used in the acclaimed 2.9. I will say its a sweet design. I love not having to reach behind a sub to adjust it.
I have been auditioning Subs for the last 4 mos or so semi steadily. I wanted something under a grand at least and looked for the best values I could find and that I have heard of. The Energy subs were a great value but I wanted more, the Paradigms were a great value as well if not more value even. I still wanted something more though, something I felt would set a benchmark at the price and a bit above, to me it was natural to look at NHTs new unit. Any NHT speaker I have heard is always arguably the best in its price range and then some. Finish was a factor. I wanted something in gloss black to match my PSB Silver i's. (I used to own NHT 2.5i's but found the PSBs to be more musical with my Bryston B60R. The NHT is simply too bright at times for such a detailed integrated, they also have an upper bass suckout that turned me off even with all of its accuracy in other areas).
At any rate I saw and heard the Sub One at CES and was impressed to say the least. I went to a Bay Area dealer who had just gotten one in and demoed it for about an hour with the 1.5s and Near 15Ms I think as well as Paradigm Studio 20s. I could easily compare the Sub Ones bass to the 2.5i but the room was a factor and the Sub was adjustable so I wont. In short I bought the Sub after even being offered the SW2Pi demo at $450. Side by side the improvements were unmistakable and I loved the SW2Pi as well, better than anything near its price other than the new Sub One that is. Needless to say I brought the Sub One home and I am continually impressed at the power and finesse of this sub.The new 10" driver from the 2.9 is fabulous and the 250watt Sunfire amp keeps it tight and well defined. I would like to hear the Sub One against the ACI Titan,I know the Titan is a fine product but I can't imagine anything near the NHTs price offering more in definition and sheer power. The sub has never flinched in all my listening, I have yet to hear it sound as if it has reached its limits even when driven hard just to see what may fall of the walls across the house, not to say the room. Ive been getting yelled at by my wife indeed. Now... hopefully I can keep both for a long, long, time.
Go check it out when you can, definateley consider it the top 10 inch Sub that will simply outperform most other 12 inchers out there.

Strength:

tight, punchy bass, control box for easy set-up

Weakness:

none so far

The Idea: I've spent at least 2 months researching all of the subwoofers in the <$1000 price range and finally decided on the Sub One. One of the main reasons for my choice was the control box which has a built in high pass filter and doesn't require you to have a super long interconnect for the line-in to the sub. That can be pretty costly for two 3-5 meter runs of quality interconnects. The control box allowed me to buy a couple of nice interconnects (straight wire symphony II) in short lengths. The subwoofer speaker cable that comes with the sub is 20 feet long! That was really smart of NHT.

The Set-Up: Setting up the sub and control box was easy. I put the sub in the most logical place, right front corner about 2 feet out from the front wall and three feet out from the side wall, which put it about a foot behind my front right speaker. The control box set up was so simple. I went from my pre-amp out to the control box and then back to main-in with the symphony II interconnects. I started out by setting the variable high pass filter to 75 Hz and the low pass to about the same. That was it! I later changed the high and low pass filters to 50 Hz to clarify the mid bass.

The Sound: I wanted a sub because I wanted to get the deep bass extension and feel the "punch" of a hard plucked string as well as to ease up the load on my main speakers. I have Polk RT10s - not exactly high end but they do a very nice job in the midrange and treble. Actually, they do nice job with bass down to about 40 Hz and the speakers are rated to go down to 30 Hz. But they lacked punch and couldn't go down as far as I wanted them to. Also, in order for them to sound really good I had to play them at pretty high volume, which is fine in my listening room (basement) which is well acoustically treated.

The Sub One has done more for the sound than I thought it would. Not only did I gain tight punchy low low bass but the whole soundstage has opened up. My main speakers, not having to go down below 50Hz sound warmer, cleaner, crisper. Imaging is more precise, I can actually hear where the musicians are in front of me. The punchy bass is clear, clean, musical and I can hear the strings and the fingers as they move and pluck the strings. Vocals are so detailed. I can hear the raspiness in the voice as the singer comes close to running out of air and then inhales deeply. The detail is amazing. And the sub blends in so seamlessly with the speakers you wouldn't even know it's there except it's so striking with it's high gloss piano finish.

What I like MOST OF ALL is that now I can listen to music at a lower volume and it still retains a crisp detail, warmth, depth, and REALNESS. This is truly wonderful since my system is in my home office and I work all day in it. Now I can listen to music all day at a comfortable level and it sounds great. And late at night, when I crank it up it is truly amazing.

In conclusion, this sub cost me $826 (with tax) but it has doubled the audio "value" of my entire system (which is a budget system). Highly recommended.

My favorite CD right now: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Deja Vu. I never knew the bass on these songs was so good. And their harmonies are unbelieveable now! Each voice is SO smooth, detailed, emotional....

Strength:

Many options, remote controller, big punch for 10"

Weakness:

Large enclosure (a 16" cube)

Smooth fit with my old Infinity RS-6 front speakers and
Infinity CC-3 center channel. It fills very nicely for music which was a surprise. Explosions are shattering, exceeded expectations. My setup includes a new Sony STR-DA777ES, Toshiba 36" Cinema TV on top of a 3' high cabinet with the RS-6 on 15" stands at each side, the CC-3 on top, and the SubOne behind on the corner of a 20x15 living room. Floor is wood with plaster walls. Viewing/listening position on recliners on opposite far corner about 12' away (I have yet to add surrounds, I have my eye on NHT HDP-2s). I paid $513 on eBay auction with World-Echange.com

Strength:

Nice Bass Good Control

Weakness:

The din Connector Emits Sparks if not properly inserted all the way in ( connector has a way of loosening )

Unit is good except for the Din connector which should have some type of locking mechanism so it don't come loose.

Unit would be a Five star if it wasn't for the controller connector...
