First serious sub purchase for HT. After 6 days returned for M&K MX125 which I consider a much better value. With the V-125, bass output was below expectations, it required adjustments on both the sub and receiver to be boosted to their maximum for optimal home theater. Even with a purchase price of $599 for the V-125, spend the extra and get the M&K MX-125, shop around, I found mine for $729! Now we're rock'in!

I have owned an M&K V-125 for about 3 years now. It's a great sounding sub whether you are auditioning it in the showroom or at home listening to music or as part of a home theather system watching videos. Besides the good review I saw at the time I bought the unit, I also auditioned other subs in the same price range. M&K sounded the best. (Note that Delos makes a test demo CD that helps you identify the lowest range that a sub can reach through a tone sweep into the bass region. It also helps you to hear if a sub can cleanly reproduced the lowest frequencies in the 20 - 40 Hz range. I also brought some CD's with very low bass content and listened to the sub only - without main speakers - and listened to how well the sub produced various musical bass notes. Some subs seemed to produced one note type bass. The M&K V-125 was not one of them.)
I use my M&K V-125 with my DVD & laser disc players and Dolby Pro Logic receiver. There is a lot of video soundtracks that demos the capability of this sub very well. Definitely, the M&K V-125 goes deep and strong. (Although the slightly higher priced M&K MX-125 goes slightly deeper and stornger when auditioned in the showroom.)
It was a great additon to my home theater system and well worth the money.

I have owned my V-125 for about 3 months now and am using it in a home theater application. Originally I bought the V-75 but ran into placement issues. Since the V-125 is magnetically shielded I was able to locate the V-125 directly under my TV, which is supported by a shelf attached to racks on the left and right.
I thought the V-75 was a decent unit. But the V-125 is decidedly more taught and powerful sounding and would work better with both music and movies. Other subs in the V-125's price range sound boomy or exhibit one note bass by comparison (Energy, Paradigm, Mirage to name a few I listened to), even some of those that have much higher power ratings. After I bought my V-125 I listened to a REL 100. This has a sound similar to the V-125 but costs more.

For the price the V-125 will be hard to beat for its intended market segment. If you need more oomph and low end grunt, and still wish to retain the V-125's qualities it is going to cost 1300 or more.

I have auditioned this sub and am quite satsfied with it, at its price range. Henry is correct, in that, this sub can be outdone by expensive subs. Considering that these cost much more than the M&K, it definately shines as a winner. Its one of the few I would consider in this range. I think nine out of ten people would pick this sub over the Sunfire True Subwoofer. I really cant think of a $700 sub that can touch this, or a $1000 sub for that matter. It is somewhat limited at the very lowest frequencies, but only VERY low ones. Give it a listen, if your on a budget. Always listen before you buy.

I researched for 3 months before updating my old stereo to a home theatre system. This site formed a large part of that research. I have had this sub less than 1 week. I doubt it is even run in yet.

It took a little while to set it up but if you put in the time and effort you get some outstanding results. The B&W is probably a reasonable competitor however the sales staff where I auditioned it were not very interested in selling me one (at least they did not appear to be).

I settled on the M&K as I was buying the rest of the system from the same place. I will be using this more for music than movies so it was important that it be able to keep up. It is very clear, goes low, and can give a decent kick. I am running it at just on half volume so it has plenty in reserve.

I have not given it the full treatment with movies but I am sure it will be up to the task.

There are cheaper subs out there. I also know you can pay a lot more for units that can't match the M&K. The next step up in performance would have cost me another US $500 which was definitely out of my budget.

This sub does everything I need it to do. I have a largish room (approx 16 x 26 ft) and it fills this with low, clean bass without giving away the position of the unit.

I have given this sub 4 stars because there are better subs out there. They just cost more than I was prepared to pay.

In this price range there is not another brand of sub on the markettoday that can come close to the quality and smotthness of the
M&K V-125. I have sold and proudly owned this product line for
years. Recently I purchased a second system for my weekend home.
S125 speakers with MX-125 sub.

I think all of you really missed the boat big time. The M&K V125 are decent sounding subs, but what you should have really bought is the M&K MX105 that has two active 12"drivers than the one driver V125. You get more sound output, lower bass, less distortion, and double the efficiency. Guess what, in Chicago the MX 105 can be had for $675!!! Thats 30% off the list price of $999 in black oak trim (an upgrade). Competition is furious in Chicago, much to the audiophile's delight. I picked mine up as a floor model in mint condition for $535.

I auditioned the V-125 at Magnolia HI-Fi and the Sunfire True subwoofer. Sorry M&K fans but I wasnt impressed. This subwoofer really lacks controll. It distorts just when it begins to sound good. The Sunfire was much deeper and much smoother sounding but it had no impact either. I just bought a HSU TN1220 subwoofer and it kicks the crap out both of these subs. It shaked my room so hard it cracked my celing.
