Strength:

Incredible tight low bass, can be set to blend in with the mains very nicely.

Weakness:

You have to have very good mains to go with this sub or they can be crowded out and sound bad, the store I bought mine from had it hooked up to Cerwin Vega boom boxes, they didn't work well and they boomed too much.

I purchased the KSW-15 open box from a near by Stereo store, it had rattle problems and they were selling it for $200.00 less than retail, so I bought it fixed the rattle and I'm amazed at how well they work with my KSF-10.5 Klipsch tower speakers. Very tight bass in movies and music, too the point that I have to keep it toned down for my wife, she thinks nobody needs that kind of pounding, the 3" TV speaker suits her just fine, for me, give me Klipsch!!

Strength:

Excellent Bass for HT. Auto power off.

Weakness:

None, so far.

I thought that my Klipsch KG 5.5's had excellent bass (and they do), and that I had no need for a sub. But, I decided to order it from J & R because the price was right ($429). After a week of fiddling around with the various settings; low pass, small/large speakers, output, etc.. I found some settings that work very well. The bass is amazing, I am using a Sony DSP300 and a Yamaha 2092. The beginning of the lobby shooting spree from the Matrix is fantastic! When Neo punched the security guard in the chest it felt like I had been punched in the chest. I highly recommend this sub(especially at $429) regardless of your room size.

Strength:

Deep powerful bass, attractive styling

Weakness:

Quality of assembly

Well, I know that this post is going to go against the majority opinion here, but here it is anyway. I was looking to add a sub to compliment my Klipsch RF-3'S and I was considering the KSW-12( a solid 5.0 review!) and the larger KSW-15. When listening to each in the store, I found the 15 to be a little bit deeper sounding , and more powerful, and so I made the decision to go with the 15. I was a bit surprised that looking at the screws that hold the back panel on, that a product listed at $749. with the name Klipsch on it would have screws that were burred and not seated properly. But this is just my area of expertise.(Quality Assurance) I was dissapointed, but I figured, I'll get new ones from Klipsch and install them myself. Anyway, in the meantime, went to Best Buys to check out some DVD material, and while in their soundroom, I see a JBL PSW-115, last one new in the box, $299. Well I had to listen, and I was surprised at the deep bass produced, even in the store! I decided to purchase it since it sounded so good, and I brought it home to compare to the Klipsch. I figured if I didn't like it, I return it. But, I hate to say it, it sounded better than the KSW-15 with my RF-3'S.(read my review on this item) I am a Klipsch fan, and I wanted to keep the KSW-15, but after very much comparing the two, I have to go with JBL. Not that the Klipsch is bad, I just think the JBL sounds better, and that doesn't even consider the cost difference...its all about the sound. Where the JBL bass is smooth and clear, the Klipsch is a bit on the muddy side. And I have read the reviews on the JBL, but I think by everything that I have compared, the JBL deserves a little bit better than its reviews show. Looking at the quality of the materials between the two, JBL wins.I thought I got a good deal purchasing the Klipsch for $499. but I am afraid I will be keeping the JBL instead. All things considered, the Klipsch is still a great sub if you can get it for $499.

Strength:

the ksw15 has so many different ways to use it with diferent levels of sound

Weakness:

YOUR EARS CAN NOT HANDLE WHAT IT CAN GIVE IN DB. 121 IF REALLY LOUD

IF YOU DONT HAVE SOME GREAT FRONT AND REAR SPEAKERS LIKE THE CH2 AND THE 20'S YOU CAN NOT USE THE SUB VERY WELL IT WILL OVERPOWER THE SOUND. THIS SUB WILL HIT DEEP NOTES THAT YOUR OTHER SPEAKERS WILL NOT. IT WILL SHAKE THE FLOORS IN YOU HOUSE. NO JOKE

Strength:

Extreme low bass fairly small size for a 15" sub great value.

Weakness:

still looking for one, this may just be the one product that does'nt have one.

I purchased this sub with the future in mind as I do not yet own a house, so I wanted more bass, but the sub had to be able to fill a medium to large room when I purchase a house. I owned a paradigm pdr-10 and this is a great little sub that I would recommend to anyone, but it will not fill a large room, so in my quest to find a sub that would fill a med to lrg room I auditioned subs from paradigm pw2200,velodyne ct150, m&k, and definitive tec. Let me tell you first that all of these subs were very good, the velodyne, and def tec sounded like they were more geared more towards movies, than music and it was a very close call with the rest, with the paradigm coming the closest,I was able to take the klipsh and the paradigm home for a side by side comparison, and to my suprise the klipsh was very musical and was able to keep up with some fairly fast bass notes with good pitch definition, but with movies is where this thing shines, it gets down to gut wrinching levels my walls damn near flex with this thing, and thats where it pulled ahead of the paradigm. Dont get me wrong the paradigm will shake your walls but the klipsh will make them crumble thats the differance between the two, and the clincher on the deal was that I got it for only $337.00 brand new, I highly recommend this sub even at retail price if you love bass and like music and movies this subs for you.

Strength:

clean, powerfull, low bass

Weakness:

None really ... but better for movies than music

I previously owned a AR s112ps which is not a bad sub for $200. It had good sound but not enough of it. It was time to upgrade to a 15in sub and hopefully one that would never need replacing.

I have a 21ft by 16ft living room with 10 ceiling, carpeted floor. So I needed a bigger sub or at least bigger sounding.

I tried everything I could find in the store. I take two disks one is Beethoven’s greatest hits and the other is the movies Blade. I like blade because it has more than just boom sound it actually has low frequency music and effects.

Best Buy had the usual yamaha, sony, jbl and cervin vega stuff. Nothing impressed me enough to take home.

I went to Circuit City the Velo ct120 was anemic and had no range it basically rumbled and sounded the same no matter what was played. The CT150 was decent but not worth $800. They had the Polk PWS650 which was very nice so I took it home to do a comparison.

I went to a hi-fi store and they had the Deftech 15 and the Klipsch KSW 15. I will admit it was tough picking between these two. The Def was more controlled and sounded better with music. But the Klipsch was a clear winner with the movies and still sounded good with music a very nice compromise. So I took the Klipsch home.

I also ordered the HSU research VTF-2.

I placed them next to each other in the middle of my living room. I set the frequency as high as possible, set the volume to half, phase to 0. I ran them together for 1 movie to warm them up (it was very loud that day).

Then I started the comparison back and forth between them.
I played the music cds and movies and my verdict is as follows.

The HSU had the best musical sound and it had plenty of thump for movies. BUT this sub could have used a 12in or 15in driver instead of a 10in. The thump is there but it does not scare you and the amp is kind of underpowered and clips at high volumes. If I wanted the sub for mostly music I would have picked the hsu.

Now between the Polk and Klipsch it was a dog fight they were very close. Good clean bass from both, no straining at high volumes detail was about the same. The Klipsch had a tad more lower extension and the Polk had a tad broader bass range.

THE VERDICT:
The HSU was very musical but I found it underpowered and honestly I find it hard to justify paying the same for a 10in sub when I could buy a 15in sub with twice the power.

I would have been happy with either the Polk or Klipsch but the fact is that I can buy the Klipsch ksw 15 on the Net for $500 delivered and the cheapest price I found for the Polk was $600.

So I chose the Klipsch kSW 15.

I bought mine at Unclestereo.com fantastic deal of $500 delivered because I also bought some NHT 6.1 Ceiling speakers. If you want this sub buy from unclestereo, he packs everything very well, has great prices and if you buy multiple products he will make you a deal you can not refuse.

If you want a big sub for medium price intended for 80% movies and 20%music the Klipsch KSW 15 is for you.

Strength:

Outstanding, tight bass (when placed properly)

Weakness:

None (yet)

System:
Klipsch KLF 20 mains, KLF-C7 center & KLF-S5 surrs.

Needless to say, I'm slightly biased toward Klipsch... but with good reason! I've had the above system for several years and it is still the best sounding speaker system I've heard for audio & movies... at all sound levels! Quality superb - no problems at all and everyone who has heard the system is simply blown away.

However, I was missing the deep, deep bass of a sub and went shopping. I listened to a friends Sunfire True... very impressive bass for the size... but that $1500 price tag!! I listened to a JBL and Yamaha that were more is my price range... okay but not like the Sunfire.

On a fluke, I ran across the Klipsch KSW-15 on J&R's website and called for pricing... the deal was great, even with $25 shipping. $425 delivered AND they upgraded the delivery to 2 day for the same price. I took a chance and ordered it up.

Hooked up to the LFE out of my Yamaha receiver. I had a corner spot all picked out for the sub and it certainly sounded okay there but a lit boomy... not quite what I was expecting. I had heard that sub placement was very important, so just for grins I pulled it out from the corner about 8 inches from each side wall. WOW!! Did this make a difference. I've moved it around a bit since then but haven't done a serious placement study. It's still sitting there like a big endtable. Only don't put flower vases on it and crank up the sound. It gets loud.

I've played with the crossover point and volume to balance out with the excellent bass response of the KLH-20s and have got it pretty smoothly worked out. Maybe 20 minutes of fussing using a couple of CDs and DVDs. I need the family to go out some Saturday for a serious tweak session (they complain about the volume!).

BTW: Someone was complaining about the lack of volume with this speaker. I have a soundlevel meter and can EASILY hit 105dB with this system and the bass is tight! The horn drivers in the mains can get overpowering in the room (15 x 20... I need a bigger house!! ;) ) but the bass is excellent. Something was set up wrong that their system. 265W into a 15" driver will not have problems getting loud.

Recommended users: Anyone with a price budget of $400 to $600. About an 18" cube, 40-50 lbs, which is fairly large. Placement is important so make sure you've got an extra 8" or so to move from the side walls.

My advice to all the potential sub owners. Be prepared to play with the location AND don't rate a sub until you find a good location. It really makes a difference!

Strength:

Brings cellos, drums, basses and movie special effects to life, with precision.

Weakness:

Can't hardly breath when you get close to it. (chest pounding bass) :-)

Huge, impressive, monumental bass. For installation flexability, the KSW-15 also has line- and speaker-level inputs and outputs for the left, center, and right front channels and adjusts high- and low-pass crossovers. It weighs 53 pounds and measures 20x20x21 inches. Produces accurate bass down to 20 Hz using a 15-inch driver with a polymerlaminate cone, which is down firing. Also has a dedicated LFE-channel output. Has a rear venting system which is said to reduce air turbulance and distortion. Factory hand tested to ensure that it's actual performance exceeds it's specs. Gives admirable respects to movies, while it rearanged my furniture. Regards to all.

Weakness:

Not as musical as some

As has already been stated, this sub is not as musical as some. My Klipsch LH10s are much cleaner and thus more musical as is my SW12II. Both, however are discontinued. However for DVD LFEs I think this sub is the champ. Be prepared to dampen and nail down everything in your room as this sub will set everything vibrating. Explosions etc. will scare you, as they should. A little too boomy for most music.

i liked the spikes on my old sub

I really liked my old Klipsch 8 inch sub. I finally got the need for an upgrade past the wife, and WOW, what a difference. My uncle has an older Klipsch 12 inch sub that sounds great, but not quite this good. I've really been happy with Klipsch products that I've heard, and now that I've found such great prices on them(acousticsounddesign.com), with the factory warranty, I'll be switching over to all Klipsch. Look for more reviews on the rest of my set up.
