Everything about this subwoofer has been said. So I will not repeat what has been already posted. I will say however that for the price this sub is superb and has exceeded all of my expectations. Very tight and musical. I just got it today and set it up according to THX specifications with a SPL Meter and let me tell you the sound is superb. Much better than the previous Kenwood sub I had. If you're looking for the best sub-$500 subwoofer, this is it! Listen to one yourself and be amazed.

Strength:

Everything, everything and everything

Weakness:

NONE - Especially for the price

Did in-store & home demo of JBL & Infinity and they sounded very good. Did in home of M&K, Velodyne & Def Tech. Sounded GREAT. Then did in home of Klipsch. This unit simply matched my upper-mid-fi system beautifully. Much more musical AND punchy (depending on what was called for) that the Infinity & JBL. Then against the BIG boys there was absolutely NO WAY (at least for me) to justify the vastly greater expense. My room is 15 x 18 with right wall open to kitchen area. NO problem filling and staying clean. Using line inputs with volume at 5 (out of 10) and rcvr doing -6dB for movies, -8dB for music.
Factor in the price and, unless you have VERY tight or extreme requirements, THERE IS NO DECISION TO BE MADE - epseciall for the price. Just go get it unless you are WAY audiophile. Sad that Value rating only allows 5 stars.

Strength:

Great value, Great Bass

Weakness:

Can bottom out if pushed very hard

I have has this awsome sub for about a year with NO PROBLEMS!! The sub is used every time the television is turned on, also used for music. It is ran by a Yamaha HTR-5150 Receiver. The sound is nice and tight and non-directional as long as it is not driven too hard. Yes there are better subs out there but you would have to pay at least twice the price for not much better sound. I just wanted to get back and post a message after owning the sub for a year, and would I buy the same sub if I had it to do over again - YES NO QUESTION. I am still in awe after a year every time I watch an action DVD.

Strength:

Good ontrols on back panel, Light, Seemingly Tight and Accurate. Rumbles well with movies.

Weakness:

Have to turn it up to at least 7 out of 11 to get it to thud like a sub should. Fart noises from rear port at certain frequencies.

As a car audio enthusiast, I know what bass is. I really know what bass is after getting pounded by all sorts of sub/amp setups at db drag competitions. I also know the difference between "knock your teeth out and shake your balls" bass and sound quality bass. I believe this sub falls to the latter. This little box is great for a small system or if you don't really listen to bass heavy music.
Having a sub does add a whole new dimension to movies and music. This sub did not have the output or impact I was looking for, I doubt many home subwoofers do. I do not listen to Rap; I listen to stuff like Steve Vai, Tool, Deftones, Alice in Chains, SRV, etc.. also classical, jazz and blues. This sub is very location dependant. Put it in the corner about 10" away from the walls and you're good. If all your corners are full of immobile furniture, you're SOL. The internal amp actually puts out less than 100 watts RMS. This may not be a problem since the woofer is most likey very efficient. Do not purchase this sub based on the rave reviews in this forum. If you have high expectations of concert levels of bass (ever see Fear Factory live?) go buy a PA system!

Strength:

Good bass for the money

Weakness:

None noted

This is the first home sub woofer that I've used. I've been maily a stereo "purist". But, when I bought a DVD player I needed a sub to get the full effect of the 5.1 sound. So, I did a little research and decided on the Klipsch KSW 12. I decided on the Klipsch for 2 basic reasons.

1. It is a good sub for the money.
2. I have Klipsch front and center speakers and like their sound and performance.

In conclusion, the Klipsch sub is a good sub and a good value. It has performed well with all of the DVD movie sound tracks that I've played. It gives good bass response with no noticable distortion. Since I'm a stereo "purist" and my main Klipsch speakers have good bass response, I haven't used this sub on music; so, I cannot comment on their response to music only.
