Strength:

Amplifier Power. 225 watts. Great Value. Has the great punchiness and transients of a 10 inch. Shakes the floor at moderate levels, and it controls itself quite nicely unlike The Boston which farts like mad.

Weakness:

FUSE.....no other weaknesses. This sub represents the legendary Klipsch company and their history of great products and technology.

I got the KSW10 not very long ago. I must say when i listened to it at the store it completely totally blew the Boston, 10incher, with a 100 watt amp, out of the water. At the store one of the salespersons turned up the boston to a moderate sound level and it grumbled. And if you know subwoofers, grumble is about one of the worst possible things ever. And for 450 the boston was considerably more money than the klipsch and should have been better quality. While auditioning the Klipsch it sounded much fuller with high and low bass, and every frequency in between. It put the boston to shame. When we brought it home it rocked the room. Plenty of bass for any person that knows how to set up speakers and likes a cleaner sound. Unfortunately, I also had the subwoofer fuse blow on me, the day after. The day AFTER! I couldnt believe it but it was true. Ive had a Sony 12incher for over a year, it has 120 watts and ive cranked that thing into the ground. It has never blown a fuse ever, and it costed 200 bucks at bestbuy. It may not be audiophile quality but that thing makes a good sounding 20hz or so with ease. Unbelievers i guarantee that if you go to best buy and test it out you will be impressed. 200 bucks. comeon. anywho we returned the KSW10 and they gave us a new one. It hasnt blwon yet and im hoping it never will. It sounds superb. seriously, for the money there are many subs out there but few can compete with the Klipsch on build quality and sound. But everyone has different opinions and they can think what they want. I give it five stars, others give it none. The only way to really know whether the sub is good or not for you and your tastes is to audition it for yourself, and dont listen to those who say it sucks cause it doesnt. It rocks. To each his own.

Strength:

Looks, tight bass, auto-on, 5 year warranty

Weakness:

Set-up not for HT in a box types, price, auto-on sometimes slow to respond

Great amazingly tight base! Pounding movies and mellow music...Can''t understand those complaining below except that are obviously unskilled in HT set-up, thus, the weakness of the KSW 10 - not for dummies or those that prefer LOUDNESS over aucoustic accuracy. Takes a fair bit of time and fidgeting to set-up. Need to connect both the L/LFE, turn up the volume, thoughtfully placed, and have the crossover just right. Mine is perfect but occasionally needs adjustment depending on what I''am playing. This done the bass is more than enough to fill a room - mine is 30x30 with 14ft and I am unable to crank the KSW10 full blast - Matrix lobby scenes has the neighbours banging on the floors! Very tight and nice. No not overly boomy and distorting unless you screw-up the crossover, but set it right and does exactly as it should.

Strength:

ACCURATE bass, not boomy and/or muddy. Small footprint, auto and manual on/off, LFE inputs. Plenty of power for mid-sized room.

Weakness:

None for my needs

I can't understand the 1 and 2 point reviews. I think this sub is excellent! Perhaps you need to experiment with room placement. If it's in the middle of the room, like behind your couch, you won't hear a thing. But stick it in a corner, with the port facing the corner, and it comes alive! That is how the owner's manual tells you to do it. My volume on the sub is set half way, and it will rattle loose objects in the room! I did have a 12" Infinity, and it had louder, boomier bass, but it was not nearly as accurate as the Klipsch, and the Klipsch can reproduce as low of frequncies as the Infinty. Not as much power, but it doesn't seem to need it. This sub is perfect for me!

Strength:

Relatively inexpensive, good controls (and Level goes to 11...)

Weakness:

Low output, indistinct sound

Bought this (~$310 from God Guys) to complement a full set of Klipsch speakers: SF-1's, SC-1, and SS-1's. They are hooked to a Yamaha RX-V596, which is hooked to a Sony DVP-S550 DVD player via digital optical connection. The SW-10 is hooked to the 596 via Monster SW cable, using the Y splitter. (This makes a big difference.) The other speakers are connected via Monster XP wire.

Short answer: the SW-10 is OK but not overwhelming, and judging by the reviews for the SW-12, I'm trading up.

Long answer: Hooking up the system, I was amazed to find almost no noticeable output from the SW, even from The Matrix, True Lies and Aliens. Calling Klipsch got me to use the Y splitter and ensure the 550 and 596 were set correctly (they were). But the only way I get any real output is to crank the volume on the receiver, even with the Level on the SW-10 set at 9 or so. (Low pass filter is set at 70 since 40 is the low end of the SF-1's, and you need to add some Hz). It does then shake rattle and roll, but I'd love it if it boomed a bit at lower volume. (Note: have not really tried with music.)

BTW, the tech support at Klipsch was great, they not only answered my questions as best they could at first, but referred me to another specialist who then called me back with more ideas etc. Glad the -12 has a great rep, I'd like to support these guys.

Strength:

Size, Build Quality, Performance for price

Weakness:

Won't play at concert level volumes

Bought this sub for a dorm room at an A/V store for 300$ (open box) and am very pleased. My fronts are KSB-1.1's with which the subs blends well. I use it mostly for music for which it works well. I listened to many subs in the price range -JBL, Infinity, etc- but I have a KSW-12 at my house and I like it so I decided to stay with Klipsch. The KSW-10 is a long way from the KSW-12 in terms of power and chest thumping bass, but for a dorm room it delivers more then tolerable amounts of low frequency energy. My roomate isn't very appreciative anyway. This is an excellent sub, but I would recommend it for small rooms only.

Strength:

5-way binding posts, auto on/off, good looks

Weakness:

Must turn the volume level up pretty high to get results

After reading the reviews posted here, I expected to hear an atrocious piece of junk. To my surprise, it sounded much better than I anticipated. I believe it is more placement sensitive than other small subs but when placed properly can offer good results in a smaller room. I also noticed I had to turn the volume up more then many other subs. It seemed as if the volume increased dramtically from midway to all the way up. Under the 12 o'clock (Half-way) setting the sub is almost non-existent. I found the 3 o'clock setting just right.

Movie performance was pretty good. Music performance was also pretty darn good. But on the movies it did better.

I would recommend this sub if you can get it discounted. My friend, who let me borrow his (KSW-10) to review, got it for $218.00 from an internet dealer (Shop4.com I believe). If you can get it for this outstanding price I don't think you can find better. But if you are looking at it at its retail price there are better (i.e. Def tech, paradigm, energy).

This is a better sub than the reviews on this site indicate. Check out: http://hometheatermag.com/htn2/ht200001/home.htm, January 2000 review for a professional evaluation of this inexpensive (Street price) sub.

At just over $200 (internet price) I believe this sub is worthy of a 5 star value rating. However, at $400 retail I give it a 4.

Augments Quintet Satellites amazingly well.

Weakness:

None yet.

I have a hard time believing all the one star reviewers actually listened to this sub. With an adjustable crossover, phase control, and input level, you can easily dial in an appropriate output for the devices you are supplementing. Sure, with adjustments set wrong, you will get muddy, weak results. But simple tuning produced EXCELLENT results for me. I have this guy setup with Quintet satellites and it handles the lows that the satellites just can't handle with ease. I believe soundpro.com carries the KSW10 for $250 S/H included. Well worth the money, there's no need to go with the 12" unless you are setting a large room and just need to annoy the neighbors.

Strength:

It's compact and lightweight, allowing me to chivalrously hold the shop door open for the other people returning their KSW-10s.

Weakness:

Muddy bass (to say this subwoofer is muddy is an insult to mud). No volume.

Sorry, folks, but I have to add to the bad news about this one. Don't waste your time with the KSW-10. If you've got any money to spare, go straight to the KSW-12.

A good subwoofer should noticeably improve even a mediocre setup. This one fails the task miserably. My system is midrange (far from garbage), and I've got a good enough ear to know what I don't like. I had high hopes when I brought the KSW-10 home. I hooked it up, but it sounded so poorly that I thought it was actually broken. After pumping up the sub channel from my receiver to the limit and turning the output on the subwoofer to max, I was rewarded with a sound similar to the neighbor a block down the street repeatedly slamming his car door. The tight bass drums on some of my favorite jazz tracks were nowhere to be heard.

Sick to my stomach after dropping $300 on the thing, I decided to return it two weeks later. With more than a little apprehension, I bought the KSW-12, took it home, and tried again. It sounds fantastic! None of us reviewers are lying when we say there is no comparison.

My advice is to give the KSW-10 a wide berth. Of course, if you get farther than 10 feet away, you won't hear it anyway.

Size, great sounding bass

This was my first powered sub purchase and I have not been dissapointed. I had originaly wanted to go with the KSW-12, but size was a factor and the KSW-12 was a little to big. So I went with the KSW-10 and it is awesome. This thing shakes the windows and walls turned half way up. For the price (320.00) it is a very good sub.

None that i can think of

I got this sub for s steal $249.00 shipped to my house.
This sub can handle a lot of bass very well. I have a hometheater setup and I can only turn the sub half way up because it shakes the house. I have only used the sub to half its potential. I really like the auto on and off feature. When the sub detects base it turns itself on. I have found the sub works best if you put it in a corner.
Overall for what i paid it is a great sub. I have no complaints.
