Strength:

Tight powerful bass, love it so much I am going to buy another.

Weakness:

Things keep falling off the walls!!!

Sounds great even in my den which is FAR from accousticly sound (15X28 arched roof). Even with my current "modest" system (Sharp Fronts, Pioneer rears and center, but don't worry, my JBL 412's and S-center are on the way as we speak!!!!). I am hoping to eventually move everything into a smaller unused bedroom which is approx 12X15 flat roof. I am anxious to see what she can do once put into a corner. Highly recommended for the buck.

I was looking for a sub for my HT to match the Infinity Minuet surround speakers. The JBL 1000 has a muddy low end, and no tight punch in the high bass spectrum. This left a large gap between the sub frequencies and the small satellites.
I returned the whole lot and upgraded to the JBL SC120, a complete 5.1 matched system, with much better results, and more power from the 150 watt amp and dual 8" drivers in the sub. The sats also had more and better drivers, which deliver more sound than the Infinity system, although the SC120 is a larger configuration than the small Infinity set.

I would suggest to anyone with the JBL 1000 to get nice bookshelf speakers or bigger, not satellites.

I've had this sub for awhile now. It was a pretty goad deal for the money. I have a set of Infinity RSe's, it matchs pretty well. Not the best I've heard but not bad.

I got this off the reject table at sears which means that
even the trailer trash didnt want it(joke). I didnt know
if it was a return, repair, or left over but figured
at 100 bucks for a 300 hundred list speaker how could
you go wrong? The bass is tight and blends well with my
advent av500s. the speaker has a very heavy cabinet and
appears well made. the only prob is that the neighbors
hate it. But it makes even a dog like WILD WILD WEST
sound good so I'll give it 5 stars for value and sound,
conditional on it not blowing up 1 day after the warranty

Sleeper, sounds good

This sub even was nice at retail. Really good for music. JBL isn't noted for their home audio,(thats changing) but this little guy sounds surprisingly good. It's not overwhelming, but it is accurate and integrates well with a lot of stuff. Wouldn't be good for big rooms, but for smaller rooms it is very nice for HT, and music. This is a sleeper.

Great sub for the money, I got infiniti 2000.4's for the fronts of my HT setup but I was very dissapointed in the bass punchiness and hollow sound, so I took em back and got the JBL sub, moved my Bose 201's up front from the rear and placed some bose 141'a in the rear. What a great setup sounds aweseom. This sub hits hard and full, the depth of the music is inspiring, great product and great price.

I have had this Sub for a very long time, probably at least 4 years. I have never had a problem with it. I bought it open box from Circuit City, with the extended warranty, and I'm glad to say I have not used it. I originally had it setup on my old Pro-Logic Reciever through the speaker connections, but now I have it setup through the Pre-out on my Dolby Digital Reciever. Sounds even more incredible with Dolby Digital!! My apartment walls shake, and the neighbors aren't too happy, but I am!!

Strength:

Very loud, I haven't heard it distort, best bang for the buck component of surround systems

Weakness:

Neighbor had to soundproof her wall!! this probably isn't a weakness

This was my first sub. I've only had JBL products so I decided to stick what worked for me. It was a little tricky to set up but that was my fault because I didn't have my amp set up correctly. I had wanted a sub for a long time since I only had a 5.0 set-up. This sub added a whole new dimension to every movie. It adds extra punch to music as well. I was looking at JBL's digital line of subs but after hearing about the many problems associated with them, decided to go for a slightly older product. It is my favorite speaker to date. I haven't had any subs prior to this one to compare it to but after listening to several other brands st stores, I am very pleased with my decision.

Also, converting my cables from analog(coaxial) to digital(optical) made a huge difference. Sound was much cleaner (no hiss at high volumes) and much much louder!

My HT set-up:
JVC RX-888VBK reciever
Toshiba SD-3109 DVD player
JVC AV-27D500
JBL PSW-1200 sub
JBL S-series center
JBL LXE-770 mains
JBL Sat-10 surrounds

Excellent woofer for the half-off $500 floor model. I was going to go with an infinity 12" sub, but couldn't turn down the deal.I've had this thing for 5 years already and loved every second of it. Only thing wrong is the c-over control dial must be getting worn or loose internally bcause every now and then the sub will cut out and I'll have to tap the dial to have it come back on...no big deal, just sometimes irritating. I took it apart and noticed it is only the c-over's little blue box (about 1 in. sqare x 3/8 deep)that is worn. This is something that a little common sense, along with some soldering skill, can be easily replaced. Other than that, its a solid piece that i recommend.....if they're still around.
