Strength:

Musical, clear sound, deep lows, unbeatable price

Weakness:

none

I tried both the CT120 and the P500 with my system. The CT120 was a floor model, so it may not have been a fair comparison. The CT120 sounded slightly muddy, but not bad for the most part. The P500 was nice for music, but a little small for home theatre. My home theatre is set up in a large room, and the P500 lacked enough punch. The CT120 seemed better than the P500 for HT. During the opening scene of "Thirteen Days" the CT120 provided a more convincing thump as the ICBMS were launched.

I found the IL120 superior to both the CT120 and P500. It was both more musical and more forceful. My wife, who is not an audiophile, noticed the difference immediately ("it just sounds better"). She also appreciated the appearance of the il120, which I bought in the Cherry finish. I used the RABOS system and experienced a slight improvement - my room did not color the sound much in the first place (as the RABOS graphs showed). By the way, if you have trouble finding a RABOS kit, you can order it directly from Infinity.

The IL120 produced strong, clean mid-range bass on "There'll Be Some Changes Made", a track on Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkin's "Neck and Neck". Great results on the new Boz Scaggs album, "Dig", too. Watching the TV series "24", the subwoofer produced a deep and menacing undercurrent of bass. The sub blends well with my speakers (Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble surround system).

If I have one nit to mention, it is the strength of the signal needed to kick the IL120 out of standby. I have to have the volume up pretty high or some pretty deep bass to turn the light green. Wonder if its just my particular sub?

I was a little leary of buying a refurbished unit on Ubid, but the unit shipped on time, looks perfect, and sounds great.

I love this sub!

Next is an upgrade to my receiver (Harmon Kardon AVR 20 MK II) . . .

Strength:

extremely deep and tight in sound. 5 year waranty too.

Weakness:

none ... unless you ask my neighbors

Before I owned this I had a Velodyne CT-120 which I liked but was not completely happy with hence my reason for moving to the infinity. Let me just say that I am always looking into upgrading my equipment, but I have NEVER even thought about switching subs after I got it. This baby can truely shake the roof down but stay as tight as a virgin while dong it. If you are in the market for a sub give this one a listen and you'll see why I fell in love with it.

Strength:

Extremely fast, deep bass for the money. Nice looking box.

Weakness:

RABOS kit is extra and NOT optional!

First off, don't even THINK of using this sub without the RABOS kit! The gentleman who posted it had one note bass is not using the RABOS kit or hasn't adjusted it correctly. This is NOT an option! It is true that it is boomy and ill defined out of the box, but that totally misses the point of this sub. It is sort of like leaving the volume turned all the way down then complaining that it doesn't play very loud! Once broken in and with the Rabos kit properly employed, this sub is absolutely transformed. It has better bass detail and speed than even a Velodyne FSR-18 ($2500) I also owned. Bass is room dependent and this sub actually addresses the room problems. I was so impressed that I bought a second one and sold the Velodyne...and still had money left over. If you own one, and you aren't using Rabos, call Infinity and order one ASAP!

I just wanted to let those of you who have the BU-120 subwoofer that may have blown up on you, that I was able to get Infinty to exchange my broken BU-120 for a brand new IL-120. All I had to do was tell the CSR on the phone that I was not going to get the BU-120 fixed so that it could burn my house down the next time it blew up. He admitted it had a design flaw and asked what I wanted. I told him I wanted a replacement Sub and he said no problem. I shipped the broken BU-120 that cost me $200 and they shipped me a brand new IL-120 that retails for $850.00 Not a bad deal on my part, especially since I had the BU-120 for almost 2 years. Thank you INFINITY for actually standing behind your product and admitting it was garbage.

Strength:

Very low and tight bass.

Weakness:

Cost

This is an absolutely amazing subwoofer. I have used my Velodyne VA1012 for about 10 years now and decided it was time to upgrade. I opted for the Infinity BU150 which turned out to be a huge dissappointment (my wife bought if for me last Christmas)-She tried! After using the BU150 for a few months, I had lost faith in using Infinity as my subwoofer supplier. Until I heard the IL120s! I had to have it! The amazing thing about this woofer is that it can reproduce the low tight bass like my Velodyne did (with more authority), but still give you that good midrange punch that you need for rock and roll music plus home theatre. The sound is extremely musical. Even when played with the bass overexaggerated. Infinity definatley got this sub design right. I encourage all of you to check this one out if your in the market for a subwoofer. Even at the $900+ price range you can't go wrong with this one. I "test drove" Paradign, Boston Acoustics, Velodyne, Energy, and Mission subs before settling on this one.

My system includes:

Yamaha 2090 Receiver (AC3 Input)
Carver TFM35X Amp
Sony DVP-C650D DVD changer (AC3 Output)
Infinity Kappa 8.1 Series II Main speakers
Polk Center Channel
Advent in walls (front and rear) for surround.
And now a wonderful Infinity IL120s subwoofer.

My sister now owns my Velodyne and the homemade is in the closet. Hope this helps. Good listening.
