Strength:

Incredibly tight and powerful bass, one of the best looking subs around, very well constructed

Weakness:

very heavy - this thing is impossible to move around with help

I have been reading all these reviews by a bunch of whiners and I have come to the conclusion that some of you are either just plain stupid or just plain deaf. I have listened to so many different brands of subs from the real cheapies to the over priced and over hyped Velodynes and Sunfires over the past 2 or 3 years and I honestly believe this to be the BEST sub available without having to hock your house to buy it.

This has more sheer power than I could ever begin to use (unless I too wished to become deaf). My AV room is about 18' by 24' by 8' with a mix of wood and softer surfaces. I have the LFE out on my receiver set at 0 db and the sub set at about 4 out of 10 and there are times during the real sub scenes of movies like Star Wars I when the "earth moves". I am telling you that if I were to push this thing like I had to with the Def Tech, I'm not sure what would break, but it would not be this sub. A setting of 8 would probably be lethal or at least dangerous to my health.

The wonderful thing about this sub is you can actually use it for music and it sounds wonderful, bringing out bass you never realized was on your CDs. Just try to use some of the other subs out there that can come close the HPS1000 for HT power with your music. They usually sound like mush or at least mono toned. This thing is tight and fast and will do justice to anything short of pipe organs for musicality. Try your mini Sunfire with a variety of music and see just how long you like it. You won't!

I don't think you can find another sub with a true 1000 watts RMS and this speed and accuracy, let alone that its not just another ugly black cube, at just about any price. So why bother, grab one of these now if you can still find one, because Infinity made the stupid decision to discontinue maybe their best sub ever and they probably regret that decision now.

As for you guys who bought your HPS1000 from some refurbes-r-us and now choose to whine about it, this does not alter the plain truth that this is a wonderful sub and a real bargain at anything under full retail. If you are one of the few (probably all of which who wrote negative, whining reviews on this site) who have one which is defective you should persue getting it fixed because once you do, I'm sure you will love this monster!

Strength:

POWERFUL and WONDERFUL !!! The best you can find for a both Home Theather and music listening. Good looking . 18Hz !

Weakness:

No remote control. No auto power on/off. It is heavy and it is big. Am I asking for too much ?

I tried to post a review last month but was too busy. After my local Infinity service center fixed my subwoofer, the low level input problem is all fixed. The sound output of the low level input is loud and wonderful. When watching Matrix, I set the gain to about 3 o’clock. The explosion of the helicopter really shake my gut. My neighbor heard that and came over to watch the movie with me.

I highly recommend everyone to contact Infinity to fix the low level input problem. Although I had to take this heavy sub to the local shop, it was still worth the lift. (just be careful)

Since I got it from ubid, I have to give it 5 stars for value. It is definitely a 5 stars for overall rating. It is also very nice for Infinity to fix the sub even it is already discontinued and sold for almost half of its retail cost.

PS: If your heart is weak, do not try the full power of this sub :-)

Eric

I picked this up from Ubid to upgrade from my HPS250. I wanted the increased frequency range of the 1000. Anyhow, It came with two of the legs broken, but a couple of screws and a dab of carpenter's glue soon set it right. I have a Yamaha 2095 receiver and when I connected from the LFE out to a Y connecter and in to the sub, had absolutly no problem or issues with the performance. But I also had no issues with the HPS250 working. I wonder if the LFE problems are specific to certain receivers or even receiver models? Anyhow, it was all I expected. When calibrated using my SPL meter, I really don't have the gain set higher than 3, and that moves the walls in my dedicated HT room.

Love it1

Incredible power, tight bass.

This sub rocks. I have been a big fan of Infinity for years, but while their speakers are known for their sound quality, they have never been known for their crankability. Most Infinity's are very power-hungry--my main Infinity Sigma's are no exception. However, this sub is almost the perfect speaker: (1) the amount of air that this can move is INCREDIBLE. When attempting to set the maximum sub volume level through my Onkyo 939 receiver, my ears and body were throbbing in pain before I could reach the point of distortion. (2) Since the full 1000 watts in never needed, the amp can run very linearly, with absolutely no distortion and a very tight sound. This sub is perfectly at home in both a home theater and a music system. (3) The price! I paid much less than equivalent speakers from M&K and Velodyne. The best Hsu subs are similarly priced, but not nearly as good looking as this sub. Bottom line: this subwoofer can't be beat!!

Due to the massive 15" 1000w sub I nolonger need to crank my system. I can enjoy the movie at a sain level. But movies like Gladiator's first scene when the catapolt sends the fire pot flying, when it hit the trees it was like it landed rigth next to me. I was tempted to put a space heater in the room with a blower so that I could feel the heat as well as the impact. This sub rocks. My friend came over and watched the same movie by the end of the movie he ordered the exzact same system with the same sub. I would however not recomend using it as a table. due to the 1000watts of power one could easily move any item right off this baby.

I received the product with cosmetic damages (it was purchased as new). The front leg was damaged. I contact U-Bid and they shuffled me off to a distributor who really wasn't interested in taking the product back. Strike one.

The product also had the LFE problem. I had to turn the gain up to 8 (out of 10) to get any volume. Didn't live up to its 1000 watt rating. Looking at these reviews many had similar problems and it seems that Infinity has a quality problem. It took 90 days for the Infinity service center to figure out how to do the repair upgrade. Strike two.

I have sent e-mail to Infinity and I cannot get any answers.
Strike three.

Strength:

Bass, Power

Weakness:

I put bass as a strength, it should be in the weaknesses. It is a very accurate sub, for a 15" sub.

I first got this sub the LFE was out. I was a little upset because of the problem, but I thought ok I have a warranty, so I sent it in. I called Infinity for about 3 Months and nothing ever happened. The sub alone delivers great bass, but there are way better subs out there. The sub is boomy, but accurate for a 15" subwoofer. This sub didn't live up to it's 1000 watt name, or up to my expectations.

Thanks Mike

Just hooked this baby up together with my Sunfire Signature subwoofer. All I can say is Lord Have Mercy on thy neighbours. The two subwoofers rock, movies are phenomenal with both subwoofers together.

Didn't have the LFE problem at all with the infinity, received the new Infinity in top notch condition from UBID, what a deal.

Sunfire Signature, and Infinity HPS 1000 combined yield over 3700 Watts, have a Klipsch LF-10 on its way for the holy trinity. Total power then will be over 5000 Watts. Praise the Lord.

Strength:

Awesome deep musical sound

Weakness:

Big and Heavy (but I don't plan on moving it around very much, so big deal.)

You guys with the LFE problem. I had the same low output and was disappointed until I decided to read my receiver manual. All it took was increasing the Subwoofer output by a few dB in the Receiver's Speaker Set-up menu. Now this thing ROCKS!! Absolutely beautiful, musical, DEEP sound. I love it. And the price? Unbelieveable for this level of performance. I played the Magnolia DVD and I was startled by the thundering sound ot the frogs raining down all around me!! I'm definitely considering buying a second one just to smooth out the response. My neighbors probably won't like it, but I will.

Auto on/off would be nice, but I really don't mind having to push the power switch.

My experience contrasts sharply with that of some of the other reviewers, so I am posting this review for any of you who may be having doubts about picking up one of these great bargains.

I dislike the common plain, black-vinyl-covered cubes, and I find this textured dark-grey box very attractive. My unit was shipped all the way across the country by FedEx and arrived in perfect condition.

I connected the Sub Out from my Denon AVR 3801 to the left low-level input and, with the sub's volume control set at 5 (out of 10), the sub produces glorious, thunderous 32' pedal tones from my pipe organ CDs.

I learned about this unit from the reviews on this site, so I will return the favor by recommending that you buy one without hesitation. If you love true, deep, musical bass and don't have to have the latest, most expensive toy on the block, you will be delighted with this sub.
