Strength:

Price/Performance ratio, great value powerful BASH amplifier VTF or variable tuning frequency sound = articulate, refined with visceral power Built quality, nice finish

Weakness:

To some maybe its size & weight, but other than that NONE...

The VTF-3 MKII gives you what a "true" subwoofer must give: visceral power with refinement and articulation. I used to own a Paradigm PW-2200 which is a pretty good sub (and highly regarded by many...) in its own right. But the VTF-3 takes it to another level. While the PW-2200 rolls off quickly below the its tuning point (25Hz), the VTF-3 MKII plays "flat" down to 20Hz and with respectable output at 18Hz down to 16Hz. It will kick you hard in the butt when called for, but it remains articulate without a hint of "bloom". Highly recommended for any audiophile or audio enthusiast looking for a subwoofer to pull "double" duty (music & HT) with equal efficiency.

Strength:

Solid build, attractive box, astonishing LFE bass for 5.1 videos and tight, musical bass for 2 channel audio

Weakness:

Cabninet size should be considered before ourchase to determine if sub will pass WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor)

I read several favorable reviews in this forum as well as others. After comparing to other sub product reviews in the same price range (< 1000) , I took a leap of faith and purchesed the VT3MK2. I was looking for a single system that would allow maximun satifiaction from both HT and Music listening. I never imaginged a product existed which would meet both my goals with ease. Great product Dr HSU, here after reffered to by me as Dr Feelgood, for that is what his product has done to me, my wife, and all others who take a lkisten.

This is a review of the 350 watt Bash Amp "upgrade" to the VTF-3 MKI. HSU has always provided an "up-grade" path for those of us who suffer when something new and improved comes out. The new MKII version of the VTF-3 boasts a larger Bash-type amp...and so I took the plunge and ordered one! HSU offers this upgrade for $200.00, plus the "trade-in" of your 250W amp. The first thing that will shock you is how light the New Bash amp is! Where is the power supply? I installed this in a "first generation" VTF-3 MKl. You may have to deepen/sharpen the corners in your cabinet about 1/16 inch to get this amp to seat properly. Very easy and quick with a Dremel...and you can't see it once it is mounted (I used a little back epoxy paint to hide the raw MDF). Now for the good part....It makes a significant and noticeable difference! For one thing...all the quirks have been worked out. The auto-on senses any signal...even at the lowest volume. There are no "RF-Transient" noises what's so ever...this amp is dead quiet, and lastly...it hardly gets warm to the touch! From a subjective evaluation...the response is tighter and handles transients with more "snap" and "gusto." With the "fly-by" scene in ATOTC...I can get my "un-modded" VTF-3 to complain at -5 under reference. With the 350W Bash amp installed in my 2nd VTF-3 (sitting beside the un-modded version)...the same scene is handled with ease. I even approached reference levels (in a huge room) and the 350W Bash amp never broke a sweat!!!!! I am ordering a second one as soon as I stop typing this. This is worth the $200.00 trade up! Thank you DR HSU!

Strength:

Variable tuning feature, abundance of power, and overall appearance. Excellent customer service from HSU.

Weakness:

Auto-on circuit could be more sensitive to low volume. Can be left "on" as opposed to "stand-by" if it's an isue.

Excellent sub for the money. Clean, tight bass with plenty of bottom that can felt as well as heard. Excellent asset to both music and home theater.

Strength:

Great value for the performance you get.

Weakness:

Kind of big, but in my case, it didn't matter. Sub will make a popping sound when pushed too hard.

Very impressive unit for the price. Moves a lot of air and can be a real presence in scenes of movies that require high output at low frequencies, even in my large open room. Performance seemed to improve after the unit was broken in for a little while. Used primarily for HT. I've heard louder subs, but not at this price.
