Strength:

Great bass for the buck

After listening to different sub-woofers for over a month, I finally decided on this one. I listened to the "similar" ones in the price ranged, and the ProSub blew them away. For music, it blended nice for me without overpowering the rest of the music. For movies, AWESOME. Great explosions, footfalls, etc. I found myself dialing the gain down to 1/2 for listening to both medias. My room is 25'x15'tapering to 11' wide.

As mentioned in a review further down, there WAS a problem with the LFE and AutoOFF, but that had been eliminated according the the DefTech person I emailed. Email DefTech for the serial number this fix took place on.

Strength:

price is ok

Weakness:

not much range, there are better ones.

i think that definitive tech has not put in as much quality with these as they did their PF line. the PF-12TL sounded much better than this one.

Strength:

Awesome Bass

Weakness:

None I have found yet

I love this sub, my Infinity blew, as I knew it would from reading the reviews here on it. Didn't waste my time repairing it. I bought this DefTech sub instead. Sounds great, no ports needing to be stuffed and shakes the house. At occasional points I noticed it very slightly bottomed, but not enough to be concerned. You will be very happy with this sub. If it fails I will post another review.

Strength:

Great Bass, decent cutoff control

Weakness:

Auto shut-off with LFE input

Nice sub, matches well with Def Tech BP10s. I found the same issue with the LFE input as Tim below. My solution was to use a Y to the left and right inputs, avoiding the LFE input entirely. After that I have had no problems and great bass. Works very well with movies, TV and rock music. For classical music I wind up shutting off the sub output entirely.

Strength:

Very nice bass, great with movies and music. Lots and lots of bass!

Weakness:

None.

I purchased this sub about a week ago and I am simply amazed at the quality of the bass. It was an open box sale. The previous owner turned it in for a 15" model. My luck! It has enhanced my movie watching and keeps me smiling while listening to music. You'll love this sub. Great addition to any home theater system.

Strength:

Bass with impact

Weakness:

none

I live upstairs in a one bedroom apartment. I have it set at about 3 out of 10 and DO NOT need any more bass. This thing rocks the whole apartment..I think im going to get evicted soon!! =) I listened to the Yamaha 160 because I was trying to stay with all the same brand of speakers, but it didn't provide the kind of impact bass that I was looking for. It has a lot more subtle bass. I wanted something that was going to hit you in the chest. I found this for $500 at Discount Sales by the Ontario Mills Mall..and because I bought my T.V. there, they threw this on the Mitsubishi 12 month financing plan. Very clean and tight bass and I have not been able to get this thing to distort at all.

Strength:

Very clear, neutral sound

Weakness:

Need to raise crossover to make sure it responds to low level signals

Purchased as part of a package
ProMonitor 200 - front
ProCenter C2 - center
ProSub 200TL - subwoofer
BP 2X - surround

I'm very pleased with this package. The ProMonitors have a very clear and natural sound that doesn't pump up the treble like my prior JBL,Genesis or Bose speakers. The sound is excellent for both music and DVDs.

With the 200TL, I have it connected through the LFE, rather than the high level connection described in the manual. It sounds great, but turn the crossover up to 140 or so. Otherwise, the active subwoofer sometimes doesn't respond to very low level signals.

Overall, the Definitive Technology system has been every bit as good as the magazine reviews and the comments here indicate.

Strength:

Floor-rattling LFE output

Weakness:

Automatic shutdown on LFE only input

Very nice sub. I'm quite happy with the sound for both movies and music. I have only one beef which I thought I should pass along for other potential buyers: The unit powers off after about 30 minutes if your only input into it is LFE output.

To elaborate...most people hook their sub up by using a single RCA-like cable coming from their AV receiver preamp sub output and going into the subs LFE input. If you do this, the sub will play fine for about 30 minutes then shut off. The sub has a automatic signal sensor which turns the sub on whenever a signal (no matter how weak) is detected. If no signal is detected for 20-30 minutes, it turns off. The problem is that the signal is only detected by the L and R inputs on the sub, NOT the LFE input.

Definitive recommends splitting the LFE output with a Y-wire and putting one input into LFE and the other into either L or R ins to avoid this problem. Instead, here's what I did: I connected the L and R (main) preamp outs from my receiver to the subs L and R inputs. I then set my fronts to large and my subwoofer to no. This directs all the LFE signal to the L and R outputs thus going both to my front speakers and to my subwoofer. I experimented with different connections and liked this the best. As a result this design flaw doesn't bother me but it probably will bother others.

Other than that bug, this is a very good subwoofer.
