Strength:

48 oct slope, distortion free with anti-clipping protection and auto-adjusting frequency to 40 hz when pushed more than 30 seconds at maxium 1000 watt output to maintain volume output. Frequency down to 21 hz

Weakness:

UMMM...none

What a sub! I have to admit it took a while to get used to hearing a sub that cannot distort! Music is so clear and crisp you can hear every "pluck" on a bass string. For sure, this sub is the best I have ever heard for music. For HT,with much more demanding material in the LFE dept, the Newton can push out tons of bass from its 2- 10 inch drivers(both active). After talking to the engineers that devolped this sub,it has alot of features that are unique for a sub(wich is also not listed in the owners manual). On the external control box their is a light that blinks red when the sub is operating at the full 1000 watts from its hybrid amp. This also kicks in the anti-clipping circuit to prevent the speakers from being over driven. After 30 seconds,if the red light remains always on ,a secondary device will automatically adjust the frequency response up to 40 hz if set below that(can be adjusted down to 20hz). This is to assure maxium output of volume WITHOUT DISTORTION!. Cool. Sure, you can push any sub to insane levels, but without distortion? Most of us would not know if our subs were clipping or not,and for some, the clipping is part of the acceptable bass we hear from our subs! Anyway, with a 48 oct slope crossover we are talking high quality sound here. Listen to one yourself and be the judge!

Weakness:

Controller could be a tad more attractive (nitpick). Remote Volume control is not fine enough for accurate control of bass from seated position. Phase, EQ, and crossover controls should also be remote controllable.

Strength:

Small 15" cube, attractive real wood cabinets, ample supply of power, seperete volume/equilizer control module, Blends with music & HT very well.

Weakness:

metal grill covering the drivers! but if UL says it has to be that way, I guess its for the better.

I recently upgraded my Sub from the Infinity Interlude IL100s sub, which in my personal opinion is a peice of crap. The P1000 is a far superior sub, it has much, much better build quality and its output is amazing, I love the maple cabinet i purchased much more realistic than the faker maple cabinets on the interludes, This sub is probably one of the better values out there, for a mere grand it competes with subs twice its price, the factory direct pricing is a major plus.. the RJ11 hook up is a damn good idea, and works well. This Sub in my opinion is remarkalbe and continues to impress me.. and for its price its a great deal..

Current set up:
all speakers in maple wood finishes

Rear: Infinity IL30's
Center: Infinity IL36c

Strength:

Quality build construction, Flexibility with music and HT, Volume control on the remote

Weakness:

Not enough output in a large room(you could buy two)

Cambridge Soundworks has put together a quality piece of equipment in the P1000 sub. Output is both solid and controlled down to 22hz. Unless you listen at exhorbatant levels or have a huge room to fill with sound, this sub is a good deal for the money.

I listen to a wide variety of music and movies. This sub works well with classical music and shakes the foundations with "The Phantom Menace." My preference is bass quality over quantity. Since I listen to many sources, the handy remote is so convenient. The only thing worse than overpowering bass in music is having to walk over to the sub every time I change from the radio to DVD to MD to CD. It is truly a miracle that I survived television before remotes were popular!

Another selling point was the 45 day in-home guarantee that the company offers. This is the only way to truly assess whether the sound quality is satisfactory. I recommend this sub highly and encourage anyone in the market for a moderately-priced sub to try it out.

Strength:

Powerful, good looking, doesn't take up much room. Excellent base control with music and HT.

Weakness:

none

After listening and reading about several subs, I found that the Cambridge SoundWorks P1000 was tough to beat. It's got plenty of power with its 1000 watt amp and fits in nicely in my mid-sized room (12' x 28'). It is well constructed and looks great. I bought the maple color but opted for the black grills. It gives it a much richer look. I purchased an open box model and had some amp problems. The store was great and gave me a brand new one. For $500.00 you can't beat it

Strength:

Ability to match other speakers; Seperate control module; Ease of adjustments

Weakness:

I have noticed the volume turns itself up ... anyone notice this? Is it b/c of motorized nob for remote? not a big deal. Volume nob needs a light when using the remote.

80% movies. My first CSW product.
Great sub, became invisible in my room when placed in a corner at 45' angle. Tons of bass, but blended very well with my mains. The control module is a huge plus. Easy control of the cross-over, volume, etc. This helps you match with out pulling the speaker out after each test to make adjustments. And allows you to tune it down when listening to music. Small enclosure is very attractive. Big improvement (sound and looks)over earlier CSW products. When watching movies I set the volume at 60% and it is plenty. My room is 17x19. Mains B&W 603s2.

I would buy this product again.

Strength:

Tight accurate bass. Small. High quality enclosure and ancillary equipment. And if it's 1000 watt power figure is accurate- powerful.

Weakness:

None thus far.

You can read my lengthy review on the entire Newton 300 system I purchased in the MC300 Main Speaker section of this site.

As for the sub, it is proving to be the most impressive piece of the new Newton series. Not that the sats and mains are of lesser quality, but having a good sub for HT and music is more than half the battle to assembling a high quality system.

The P1000 is described by the CSW literature as "...one Beautiful Beast of a Subwoofer" and so far I completely agree with this description. The bass is tight, but also quite revealing of recordings that have tubby or boomy bass. In some instances I can't be sure that I just don't need more tweeking to deal with the natural 100Hz peak in my listening room. But for the mostpart electronic bass sounds like electronic bass and Jazz sounds like Jazz. When tuned correctly this sub will resolve subtle shades in the bass as opposed to the one note delivery of my BassCube 10. Watching the Matrix and other Bass-heavy films showed me that the P1000 was more than up to the task of DD and DTS playback, while more subtle audio mixes like that on "What Lies Beneath" gave me an indication of it's resolving power. Some bass is not mean't to rattle your insides, but rather inject a subtle uneasiness to you movie-watching experience. This is where I felt the P1000 differed form it's lower end brother- finesse coupled with Brute force when needed.

CSW Believes that this sub will compete against subs costing twice it's 1000.00 dollar price tag- according to CSW this sub was targeting a Sunfire-like design: small, powerful, musical. I'm unsure I would be able to tell the difference between a $1000.00 and a 5000.00 sub in a typical real world listening room. I'm not even sure that I would have paid $1000 dollars for this sub (The package deal for all surrounds, a receiver and the sub was under 2100.00, and the receiver alone retailed for $1000.00 before another discount, so the package was a sweet deal). I do feel, so far, that the P1000 is a quality product, especially when one compares it to the completely mediocre BassCube Line. However, I do still have am month to make sure it meets or exceeds my expectations.
So far, first impressions 4 stars. I will be sure to update my opinion in a few weeks.

Strength:

Powerful, crisp bass, no hum, no vibrations. Great look, got mine in mahogany

Weakness:

Can't find any

I just set up a theater in my new home and I really wasn't planning on spending $2,600 for the sound system. I got an ad in the mail for the new Newton series theater stuff, so I went in to check it out. I can say honestly that I am very happy that I chose this system. No noise, no hiss, hum, no vibration it this Sub. I'd buy it again.

Strength:

Nice compact design, good bass for the size.Great outboard crossover box.Power cord can be removed and replaced by a better one.Good value considering the price.

Weakness:

Other compact designs with better built quality, and more power. Some give faster bass and also more of it.Does not extend low with power.

The Cambridge P1000 is by very far(with the smaller brother)the best Cambridge sub ever made.At $1000 its a good HT and music sub.It can be set to match the mains and integrate quite well with most speakers.

It will play quite low but will lose power below 30Hz.Its a good sub for a medium room. The built quality is quite good for the price. In fact for the first time I can say Cambridge designed a good real sub.The BassCube line is a total joke to my ears.

Bob Carver set a trend with his amazing Sunfire True Sub Mark 2.The Mark 2 still outperforms all of its competitors for output in the lower spectrum, even the HGS series from Velodyne! The Cambridge is more musical I have to say.

So the P1000 is a great mini sub for HT and music as long as you dont ask to reproduce pipe organs and dont ask for big output. If you want HUGE output and king of the deep microsub you have two choices Sunfire Signature and Velodyne SPL12 and HGS12.The Sunfire taking the output crown with little sweat.

A solid 4/5 for value and 4/5 as overall rating.
