Strength:

Size and ease of operation. Best used in a corner placement, as it is a PORTED sub. Placement is key for best results!

Weakness:

I'd like to see more power, but if you're buying a $150 sub to fill in the bottom end for a mid to high priced home theater, you are barking up the wrong tree. That's called user error.

Why must people compare a perfectly usable, low cost sub with things like the Sunfire?! As it has previously mentioned, it is about 1/5th of the cost to get a BassCube 8. We're not talking apples to apples here. Find something better in the price range, I dare you. It won't happen.
This unit hits a price point that nothing can touch and still do the job properly. Best bang for the buck, but I'd still take my BassCube 15 over most stuff out there. :-)

KLH?! (Nope, Henry has NOTHING to do with them).
Nothing out there compares for cost/performance.

Strength:

Tight bass, very good value

Weakness:

Need a corner to make it better

I purchase this sub with a pair of CSW Model Seventeen during Oct 2000. The value was good, and it was much better than the Yamaha and Sony subwoofers that I tested at Bestbuy. This sub pairs up well with the Model 17, so you can get a very decent system for less than $300. The bass is awesome. This is my first subwoofer purchase (my parents' system have an integrated woofer in the floor standing speakers). My first movie using this sub was "The Patriot" and the explosions blew me away (no pun).

My room is 15ftx10ft, so this cube fits the bill nicely. For the price, I think the Acoustic Research ARS108PS may be a competitor, but I haven't listen to that particular sub yet. Overall, the Basscube 8 is a great value.

Decided to add a sub after getting DVD. I stumbled upon CSW's ebay auctions selling "reconditioned" speakers. They say the stock is either returns from their 45 day in home trial or blemished finishes. Whichever this was, it arrived looking (and smelling!) brand new.

I'm running it alongside my Advent Baby II's (speaker lvl. inputs) Onkyo 2 ch. reveiver, 50w/ch. What a difference it makes! I have the gain set around 4 and freq. around 100, and this little box more than gets the job done. Movies? of course. But ironically I'm finding it's even more useful for music. Lows from acoustic and electric bass, bass drums, even acoustic guitar, are all reproduced accurately and with a very natural sound. The bass is tighter and more focused. I couldn't be happier!

None at this pricepoint.

Let me first say that this the first sub that I have owned. My prior HT system consisted of some older Optimus floor speakers for my mains with a center and a small set of satellites for the rears. Anyway so far I've been very happy
with this little subs performance. I purchased the Cambridge
Ensemble 3 system with the 2 mains, 2 rears, center and passive sub and had decided that I wanted a little more kick
so I purchased the Bass Cube 8. I checked out other subs by Velodyne, Pinnacle amongst other names as well but all these other brands cost at least twice or three times as much and I couldn't see spending that much more and not really gaining that much in performance. I've got my sub in a corner in a 13 by 14 room and it does a really nice job
for music and home theater. For the price you can't really do any better. Sure Costco may have a KLH for $99 but your going to get a piece of crap.
Bottom line here is Cambridge SoundWorks builds some pretty decent speakers that will stand up to other brands
fairly well without breaking the bank. And no I don't work for Cambridge I just happen to enjoy their products.
Happy listening.

This is an addendum to my review below.

I up-graded main speakers but continued use of this unit. I mentioned prevoiusly that I got best results running main speaker output to the sub and then to the mains. With the new mains (and some slight changes in furniture location)the best connection is the sub out from the reciever.

The point is you try both and use the one that works best.

This is a follow up review to one I submitted last year and in direct response to the Ears scathing unfounded and total
bullsh*t comments he made regarding this product. I have now owned this little sub for about 1 1/2 years now and I'm
still very happy with it's performance. Whenever I'm watching a DVD and if there happens to be a scene that requires alot of low end bass this sub is more than up for the challenge. For example during the scene in "Castaway" when the plane is going down in the water there are some instances that have alot of low rumbling bass. The response out of this sub was incredible. Were talking bass that pounds you right in the chest with no boominess whatsoever.
Bass that you really feel. Now I'm sure that a $600 Carver
or a $400+ Velodyne MAY have a certain edge in performance
over this humble little sub with it's $179 or less price tag. But in my opinion if you were to do a sound comparison I seriously doubt that most people including those that call themselves "audiophiles" would be able to tell the difference between the Bass Cube 8 and one of the more expensive models mentioned above. The bottom line here is that bass is felt not heard and for the money the Bass Cube 8 holds its own against models costing alot more money.
So Mr. Ear why don't you submit a review on a product you have actually owned and had experience with instead of making up a bunch of stupid ass comments about a product that from what I see you have little or no first hand knowledge of in the first place. After all isn't that what this board is for in the first place? To write reviews on products that people have actually owned?

Strength:

Excellent bass handling

Weakness:

Too powerful (read below)

This was my first home theater subwoofer purchase. I have it set up in a fairly large room (approx. 12'x27'). I took it out of the box, hooked it up with Monster cable to the sub out of my reciever, popped in the Matrix DVD, and put the gain to 3. During the first scene, I knocked over a cup in my kitchen!!! I couldn't believe how much power this thing was giving!
Now, I pretty much keep the gain just under 1 (and it goes to 10). Adds a WHOLE new perspective to my CD and DVD collection, I don't know how I listened to music before I had it!
I got it for $179...and it was the best $179 I ever spent!

Strength:

Powerful Clear Bass, small size.

Weakness:

No weekness found.

I have spent more than 3 month to test and study many power sub in stores and friends' home. Finally I bought Movie Works 408 HT system in $350/- before 8 months. The Bass cude 8 sounds excellent in my (WxLxh=12x20x10)feet room with two big opennings. I set it on 100Hz low pass and only a quarter volume level and possition it in 7" away from corner facing corner. It please me in any heavy bass music and movies without any distortion. I am using CSW products since two years and never had any type of problem. I am so crezy for speaker systems, still I am testing Power subs in stores but didn't find any simmilar or batter Power Subwoofer below 300$.

Strength:

Good bang for your buck.

Weakness:

Boomy at times.

I have been satisfied with this $180 sub but I probably would not have bought it at it's regular price of $250. The speaker only measures six inches and CSW claims that it's eight. Good sub for a small bedroom or dorm room. Works well with CSW Model Six's.
