Strength:

This is going to sound harsh, but really, I can't think of any. The sound quality is average, the price is somewhat high and the customer support was not impressive.

Weakness:

Persistent and loud humming sound (easily heard from 20 feet away). I do live near a radio tower, but none of my other stereo equipment is affected like this sub-woofer.

Also there are two main ways of connecting this sub, using line inputs and using speaker inputs. Only the speaker inputs actually work, the line input generates no sound.

Both these problems were present in two different subs (I returned the first because of these problems, but the second sub had the same problems.

Aside from the buzzing sound and the line inputs not working, the sound is just average at best.

It should be noted that this review is based on placing this component in a stereo system that should give it every chance to excel. The pre-amp is Classe, the Amp is Krell, and the speakers it was matched with are Martin Logans.

I am extremely disappointed with this subwoofer and also somewhat disappointed in the San Francisco Cambridge Stereo store staff. I showed up at the store right near closing time and told them I had a faulty product. Rather than going the extra mile to make a customer happy they forced me to come back on a different day (about an extra hour of round trip time on my part).

I just made a poor all around choice because I was impatient to get something quickly, (never again).

Strength:

Excellent LFE response, fires down, compliments other CSW speakers.

Weakness:

Slight hum

I agree with Travis, this is a great sounding and value sub. I have a unusual size/shaped room with limited placement options. I use two 8" Ambiance in walls for fronts and 2 5.5" Ambiance in walls for surrounds. I have the BC 12 in a rear corner. My system is used 99% for home theaters, and this sub delivers the bass and ground effects I was looking for. True, you do need to tweeke the crossover and level for differnet movie soundtracks, but this is very easy and besides, part of the fun of a home theater! Also - I purchased this from CSW in Palo Alto, CA, and tried the 8, 10, 12 and 15's - the 12 is by far the best of the bunch. The staff there also extramely helpful in choosing the Bass Cube and the Ambicance in walls. I defend CSW and the BC 12. These are not "low end" speakers, they are a steal at the price!

Strength:

Bang for the buck!

Weakness:

Will not compete with $1000 SW's (and should not be expected to)

No, this Sub will not compete with some $500 - $1000 subs. If you want that quality you pay for it. But for the price, this is the best sounding sub I found. I have a 2000 SF home with an open ground floor and the Bass Cube 12 is more than adequate. I have a Sherwood Newcastle R945 receiver, and Cambridge Soundworks Movieworks 5.1 LR channel speakers with the Center Stage Center channel. I have had many people from casual listeners to seasoned audiophiles listen to the system and everyone has been more than impressed. If people complain about this Sub, I cant imagine that they're system is set up properly. Or maybe they are looking for the sub to make up for other inadequacies in their systems.
