Strength:

Auto On/Off, Deep realistic bass. Excellent looks, and good price.

Weakness:

Hard to read dial, but that is minor.

I want to start off by saying that when it comes to powered subs I have not had an extensive listen view to many brands. However, I do know that for my dorm room it out performs on realistic, quality, and precise bass of other student's subs. I got a good deal of $200 on this sub, while a friend purchased a RCA 12" with port, and cheesy remote control, his sub produces a "boomy" affect all the time and is not very realistic. For example when someone closed a car door on Road Trip his whole room started to shake. I tried to help him by adjusting his frequency knob, but nothing really seem to get rid of that constant extremely and annoying bass. The BassCube 10 is over and above that of the RCA, Yamaha's, Sony's or many other in the same price range. This sub, works great with all types of music and Dolby Digital recordings. You will not be dissapointed if you like affordable realistic bass in an attractive package--just as long as you don't compareit with subs that retail for much more. For the price Cambridge has set their BassCube 10 apart from the rest of the field in the price range.

Strength:

Excellent sound for the price. Installation easy. Like the auto on/off feature.

Weakness:

Could use a better explanation for settings. Although simple, you never know if you can get more out of the sub.

My current set is as follow:
Onkyo DS676 receiver
Onkyo DV-C600 6 disc DVD
Bose 501 fronts
Bose AC3 single cube rear
Cambridge Center channel plus

This sub provide exactly what I was missing. Even my wife who usually complains about the sound, had me crank it up enough to raise your hairs and wake up the neighbors. For only $135.00 it is well worth every penny. If I spent 500 i couln't be happier. This baby will wake the dead, makem' roll over and run for cover. As Toby Keith says " Getcha One....

Strength:

Does exactly what it's supposed to. Great bass! Feels like I have a whole new set of speakers and they are 3X louder than before. Sounds great!

Weakness:

When I turn up the volume the cube jumps about in the corner!

I bought the 10S cube to supplement my CSW Ensemble speakers, (two satellites and two separate woofer boxes). The difference the bass cube has made is exactly what I had hoped for. Without the bass cube, which is powered by its own 75-watt amp, my Harmon Kardon AVI 200 (rated 50 watts per channel) tended to overheat and clip out when I played loud bass-heavy music. More importantly, the Ensemble subwoofers did not produce a very satisfying sound when I turned up the volume. I wasn't sure if I should trade in the whole system (it's 7 years old now), or try a powered subwoofer. For about $230 I've finally created the system I've always wanted. With the bass cube handling the low notes, the receiver no longer clips out and the sound is full and rich. At louder levels the bass shakes the entire house without sounding boxy! I don't have a tv and I only listen to music in the normal 2 channel mode. Hip-hop, classical, jazz, reggae all sounds great to me. I would recommend this woofer for those in similar circumstances.

By the way, I don't have a hum while the speaker is activated but unused, it's completely silent. The low pop when I first turn it on isn't a big deal. There's really only two controls: volume and tone. I don't know why anyone would need to look at the level on the dial to adjust the sound. The cube does jump around when the volume is way up.

Strength:

Excellent integration with CSW Ensemble II system, evens out bass output in room

Weakness:

none to speak of, given its design objectives

The BassCube 10 does an excellent job in extending bass output for a satillite system. Bass response is a deep 39 Hz before quickly rolling off. Clean bass can be heard even down to about 25 Hz although about 10 dB down from the rest of its response.

My quickest impression was how nicely the BassCube 10 integrated into my Ensemble II system. Prior to using the BassCube, I had problems setting up the passive sub (the one that comes with the Ensemble II system) without getting erratic performance. By a using a little creativity and tinkering with placement, the BassCube smoothed out bass response down to about 40 Hz and then rolled off nicely. Bass response now sounds clean and solid, but is not overly "boomy" or "mushy". Sure, deep, deep bass is not present, but I think my neighbors appreciate this (I live in a condo) and most home theater and music passages don't require it. The result is a very satisfying solid bass performance that will maximize what can reasonably be expected from a small apartment/condo.

Audiophiles with large homes and 2000 watt Sunfire amps should look elsewhere, but for an audio enthusiast that lives in apartments, the BassCube 10 is an excellent and very reasonably priced product.

Strength:

same as most other reviewers

Weakness:

hum, with or without signal

Tried two. Both had a 70 Hz hum under connection or no connection (coax, SR-19 subwoofer out), signal load or no load.

Moderate test (Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole) at 80 Hz low pass, 1/3 volume increased hum volume by 2x, tested as above with heat sink slightly warm to touch. Reproduced in local CSW store.

Other models in their soundroom (12 & 8) had similar hum. Internal amp ground problem? Returned.

Strength:

Deep bass for smaller room

Weakness:

Amplifier/circuitry very poor quality

I have had FOUR of these over 13 months and finally returned the last of them today for a full refund...you have to admire CASW's good return policy. The first one cooked after 4 mos...2nd one cycled on an off erratically, with loud pop off and loud pop on..great for soundtracks (not). #3 and 4 both had the dreaded 70hz hum whether plugged in or not. These units are manufactured in China and obviously, quality control is very poor. They must have thousand of these hummers. I actually thought it sounded quite good for the money...but I hate crappily made electronics. I would stay away from these...I'll bet other $300. units are better (I'll let you know.)

Strength:

Strong Bass, user friendly controls and manual, very good price, very good service.

Weakness:

Control knobs should have a white marks or lines on them so that it is easier to see where the settins are set, it's hard to see in back of the sub unless you tilt it towards you.

I had a loud humming noise when I first installed the subwoofer, this turned out to be a bad audio cable, the hum was gone when I replaced the cable. After I had the sub for about one week there was a loud pop when the subwoofer turned itself off. I called CSW and they told me that it was from a capacitor discharge and that I can replace the unit with a new one. I have slowly upgraded my Sony speaker package with CSW speakers. I now have the CSW Center Channel Plus, Surrounds 5.1, and this subwoofer along with Sound Dynamic SS-1 for main speakers. I plan on upgrading the center channel to the center stage in the near future too better match the main speakers.

Strength:

good bass, easy to use controls

Weakness:

a bit boomy, can't see setting marks - need flashlight

considered it only cost me 150 shipped, its fine.

Mine has the "capacitor pop" when it auto turns off but I don't know if I'll go to the hassle of returning it for another.

Using the spraker terminals instead of the RCA jack definately goves you increased levels of bass but I still use the RCA for less wiring runs.

For the price, not bad.

I use it with my Energy Take 5 setup.

4 stars because of the cheap price.

I review this product before see below. I gave CSW the chance to solve their problems with this Subwoofer Bass Cube 10 but they were unable to. So I am going to return this unit tonight and replace it with the JBL PB-10. I still have the CSW Surround 5.1 and the Center Stage Speaker that I am very pleased with, but the sub is a problem.
