Great SUB, great choice!!! Been a Boston Acoustics fan, and upgrading from the System 9000, found out that this Sub kicks ass. Glad I bought it. I highly recomend it. Next step... System 10K Speakers. Can't wait... The Sub handles both music and movies very well, filling the room with a deep and tight bass. Impressive 300W !!!
Well, I'm not an expert, I just have good ears for a great quality. I never had any B&W, Velodyne or PSB, but I've sure heard them in show rooms. I've been using BA's for the last 5 years and I've been very happy with them. Again... Boston Acoustics Fan !!!

Strength:

Deep Tight Bass, Volume Control in Front of the Sub, Excellent response for both Music and Movies

I can’t say enough about this subwoofer. The bass response is incredible! The PV 800 is very musical and blends perfectly with all types of music. If your looking for a boomy sub this is not the sub for you. The bass response is deep and tight.

With movies, the LFE effects from this sub will straighten your hair, with music it blend perfectly and will not overwhelm you with obnoxious bass boom. It does however require a lot of experimentation in terms of placement, adjustment in crossover and volume, and setup in your receiver. The best response for me was to setup my VR 950’s to large, crossover at 100 Hz with a sub volume of 3 and –3 db in the Denon 4800. I almost bought the PV 600 instead, I am so glad I didn’t.

Strength:

300 Watts provide a HUGE sound. This sub will blow you away.

Weakness:

A little boomy when compared to other subs in its price range.

This sub is definately the best sub in its price range. I would have bought the energy, but I got a great deal on the Boston. The speaker location (at the bottom of the sub) concerned me at first from the negative things I heard from other people. However, I let me ears be the judge and although it is not the tightest sub, it is loud! The boomyness isn't BAD, I am being picky, it is just noticable - the sound isn't as tight at start and end points of sound. It is damn good, if you can get one for under $600 I HIGHLY recomend it.

I listed to top of the line Energy, Polk, Paradyme (too expensive), and Bose before purchasing.

Strength:

Fills the room well with nice bass

Weakness:

Can be a bit boomy with classical music

Overall I am pleased with this sub. It has nice control, and sounds much, much better since I upgraded cabling (Audioquest connectors). I would have to say I would purchase it again given the fairly low price (I got mine for $550). Altough it can be a bit boomy on kettle drum strikes from classical music. Overall, a fairly musical piece.

Last weekend i receive this sub and connect to my system:

Pioneer DVD 525 Multiregion
Yamaha RXV-2095 Receiver
Sunfire cinema grand 200 Watts X 5 ch Amp
PSB Century 600 Front
PSB Century C200 Center
PSB Century 400 Rear
PSB Alpha Mini Front Effects
NAD 5000 CD Player
Denon DRM-700 Tape Deck (actually a good piece of furtinure to fill my rack)
Sony LD300 Laser Disk Player
Infocus DP755 Projector
Dalite screen

I was thinking about buying the PSB Subsonic 7, but Mexico's PSB distributor went out off bussines, then i see the Boston PV800, some time from now i have a pair of Boston Acoustics T-100 tower speakers and like the bass they produce, so i decide to test the PV800.

Last weekend i put this sub in my system, crossover about 70 Hz, volumen about 10 o'clock, main speakers in "Large" and put Jurasic Park in DTS in my DVD Player, after seen the entire movie all i can say is that if a hole with the form of a T-Rex footstep appears in my Home Teather room i will not be surprised.

Strength:

Efficient, powerful design; small footprint; true 20Hz response; good manual; made in USA.
Made in USA.

Weakness:

No high-pass network.
Tiny bit boomy around 50Hz.

I'm very pleased with this sub, although I would have gladly paid $150 more for high-pass filtering. Sounds sweet with Boston's System 10K.

After having the B&W, I found it possessed a rattle that appeared in deep bass passages. After returning it I picked up the PV800 by boston accoutics. Phenominal performance. The windows now rattle outside my home when the bass comes in. When a helicopter lands in the movie it lands at my home as well. Super performance. Nice to have the volume in the front where fine adjustments can be made without having to move the unit. I can't say anything bad about this product. Currently using a older Onkyo A-RV401 amp to pass the sound to the sub's internal crossover. Excellence in value and in performance.

I am using this sub with the BA system 10K. Once the cross over is properly adjusted, the system rocks for both music and movies. When the subway roars thru in the Jackal, you feel like it is passing right thru your room. This sub is much more powerful than others in its price range.
